        Application of Biophysical Properties of Meridians in the Visualization of Pericardium Meridian

        Background: The biophysical properties of the meridian system, an important concept of traditional Chinese medicine, include low impedance, resounding voice, and high acoustic conductance, all of which are helpful for elucidating the essence of meridians. Objectives: To visualize the human pericardium meridian (PC) based on the resounding voice property of meridians. Methods: Visualization of the PC was performed by injection of fluorescein sodium at the PC6 acupoint (Neiguan) on the PC. Before injection, percussion active points (PAPs) were identified by the virtue of their resounding voice properties. After injection, the trajectories of fluorescein migration throughout the body surface were recorded and analyzed. The distribution of fluorescein in the tissue was further studied using cross-sections of hind limbs of mini-pigs, in which fluorescein was injected into low impedance points. Results: The identified PAP lines were colocalized with PC. Following intradermal fluorescein injection, 1-3 fluorescent lines, which were unrelated to the arm veins, were observed in 7 of 10 participants; 85.4% of fluorescent signals were coincident with PAPs and their intensity had a negative correlation with the body mass index (r = –0.56, p = 0.045). Cross-sections showed a Y-shaped fluorescence pattern where the two migration lines on the surface were the two vertices of the “Y.” Conclusion: The trajectories of fluorescein in the body are suggestive of the anatomical structure of meridians. The PC is related to the deep horizontal interstitial channels that connect to the body surface through vertical interstitial spaces. These biophysical properties and techniques for meridian visualization are valuable for revealing the anatomical structure of meridians.

      • Manganese-cobalt hexacyanoferrate cathodes for sodium-ion batteries

        <P>Prussian Blue analogues (PBAs) have shown promise as electrode materials for grid-scale batteries because of their high cycle life and rapid kinetics in aqueous-based electrolytes. However, these materials suffer from relatively low specific capacity, which may limit their practical applications. Here, we investigate strategies to improve the specific capacity of these materials while maintaining their cycling stability and elucidate mechanisms that enhance their electrochemical properties. In particular, we have studied the electrochemical and structural properties of manganese hexacyanoferrate (MnHCFe) and cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoHCFe) in an aqueous, sodium-ion electrolyte. We also studied manganese-cobalt hexacyanoferrate (Mn-CoHCFe) solid solutions with different Mn/Co ratios that combine properties of both MnHCFe and CoHCFe. The materials have the characteristic open-framework crystal structure of PBAs, and their specific capacities can be significantly improved by electrochemically cycling (oxidizing and reducing) both the carbon-coordinated Fe and the nitrogen-coordinated Co or Mn ions.<I>In situ</I>synchrotron X-ray diffraction studies and<I>ex situ</I>soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy combined with an in-depth electrochemical characterization provide insight into the different electrochemical properties associated with the Fe, Co, and Mn redox couples. We show that cycling the C-coordinated Fe preserves the crystal structure and enables the outstanding kinetics and cycle life previously displayed by PBAs in aqueous electrolytes. On the other hand, the N-coordinated Co and Mn ions exhibit a slower kinetic regime due to structural distortions resulting from the weak N-coordinated crystal field, but they still contribute significantly towards increasing the specific capacity of the materials. These results provide the understanding needed to drive future development of PBAs for grid-scale applications that require extremely high cycle life and kinetics.</P>

        Genome-wide identification, characterization and expression profile analysis of BBX gene family in Chinese chestnut (Castanea mollissima)

        The B-box (BBX) proteins are a class of zinc finger transcription factors and play critical roles in plant development and growth. However, they have not been systematically characterized in Chinese chestnut (Castanea mollissima), an important nut with rich nutrition and high economic value. Here, 18 BBX genes were identified in Chinese chestnut genome and divided into five groups through phylogenetic analysis, with members in the same group containing the same conserved domain organization. The collinearity analysis showed that dispersed duplication played a major role in the expansion of CmBBX gene family inferred to have evolved through purifying selection. Transcriptome analysis and qRT-PCR experiments suggested that CmBBX genes showed different expression patterns in different Chinese chestnut tissues, and revealed some CmBBXs may have potential functions in the development of Chinese chestnut buds, nuts, fertile/abortive ovules. Combined with the analysis of conserved domain, motif, cis-elements, expression level and protein three-dimensional structure, the lack of cis- acting elements related to meristem expression and gibberellin-responsiveness may lead to the no-expression of CmBBX9 in Chinese chestnut. The systematic analysis of Chinese chestnut BBX genes provides a basis for further understanding the characteristics and potential functions of BBX gene family.

      • An overlay-based service architecture for distributed video surveillance system

        In this paper, a service architecture based on overlay network was presented. The architecture was designed to build a novel distributed video surveillance system, called as Etouch. In the model, the system is divided into three layers: underlying network layer (UNL) , overlay service network layer (OSNL) and application layer (AL). OSNL is composed of many intelligent overlay nodes mapped by underlying network layer. Overlay nodes provide all kinds of media service for surveillance application in AL. OSNL allows media service composition of distributed stream processing applications dynamically. And a load balance of QoS-aware service composition algorithm (LBQSC) is employed to satisfy their end-to-end QoS demands. Large-scale experimental results demonstrate the scalability, efficiency and performance of the E-touch system.

        A novel stricture prevention technique in blunt urethral injury: A multi-center retrospective observational study

        Purpose: Bulbar injury is the most common type of urethral injury. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of a novel technique, local urethral flushing, in preventing stricture formation after blunt bulbar urethra injuries. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 205 males diagnosed with straddle injury-induced bulbar urethra injury at the Shanxi Bethune Hospital and First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University between January 2015 and January 2019. Patients were diagnosed by retrograde urethrography and classified as partial or complete urethral rupture according to the urethral integrity after injury. Complete urethral rupture patients received suprapubic cystostomy and received urethroplasty 3 months later. Patients with partial urethral rupture underwent endoscopic urethral realignment by cystoscopic guide-wire guided catheterization. Patients with both injury types were divided into 3 groups. The treatment groups received urethral flushing with 0.05% dexamethasone through a secondary ureteral catheter that locked at the urethral lesion. The blank control groups received normal saline. The negative control groups had only a single ureteral catheter placed. Patients were assessed for pain during catheterization, infection, and stenosis, and followed for at least 2 years. Results: Stenosis rates and length were significantly reduced in the normal saline groups, and even further reduced in the dexamethasone groups. The negative control groups had significantly higher infection rates than patients in the dexamethasone or saline groups. Conclusions: Local urethral flushing with dexamethasone could significantly decrease urethral stenosis rates and severity without increasing patients’ discomfort or infection risk.

        Effect of Acrylic Content on the Properties of the Polyurethane/Polyacrylate Composite Emulsion

        A polyurethane/polyacrylate (PUA) composite emulsion was synthesized by using polyurethane (PU) as seeds with soap-free emulsion polymerization, in which methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl acrylate (BA) were used as main acrylic monomers. The effect of acrylic contents and “stiff” and “soft” weight ratio of acrylic monomers on the properties of the films were investigated. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) results showed that acrylic monomers were involved in the emulsion copolymerization. The optimum composition of PUA composite formation was obtained when the polyacrylate (PA) content was 20%, in which the weight ratio of MMA and BA was 2/1. With the increment of PA content, the decomposition temperature increased.

        Experimental study on migration and transformation of selenium species and DFT calculation in WFGD simulated slurry

        Selenium is a harmful trace element emitted during the combustion process of coal-fired power plants. Most of the selenium is enriched in the downstream wet flue gas desulfurization system (WFGD). Thisstudy found that S2O28 is the most important factor affecting the oxidation of selenite. In the processof simulating slurry oxidation of selenite to selenate, the presence of S2O28 can increase the oxidationrate of selenate from about 50% to about 80%. At the same time, this study also considered the influenceof selenium concentration, initial pH, SO2 concentration and temperature etc. on the transformation ofselenium species. It was believed that the application of ORP to the indication of selenite oxidation statusneeds further demonstration. Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) were used to confirm the migration of selenium in the desulfurization slurry to gypsum. Inaddition, DFT calculation was performed to obtain theoretical parameters for the adsorption of seleniteand selenate by gypsum. The results of this study are helpful to understand the transformation andmigration of selenium in the desulfurization system, which provide theoretical support for the realizationof selenium in-situ control.

        Correlation between fat accumulation and fecal microbiota in crossbred pigs

        Backfat thickness (BF) is an important indicator of fat deposition capacity and lean meat rate in pigs and is very important in porcine genetics and breeding. Intestinal microbiota plays a key role in nutrient digestion and utilization with a profound impact on fat deposition of livestock animals. To investigate the relationship between the pig gut microbiome and BF, 20 low-BF (L-BF) and 20 high-BF (H-BF) pigs were selected as two groups from Yunong Black pigs in the present study. Fecal samples from pigs were analyzed for microbial diversity, composition, and predicted functionality using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The results showed that there were significant differences in microbial β diversity between the two groups. LEfSe analysis revealed a number of bacterial features being differentially enriched in either L-BF or H-BF pigs. Spearman correlation analysis identified the abundance of Oscillospira, Peptococcus, and Bulleidia were significantly positive correlations with BF (P < 0.05), while Sutterella and Bifidobacterium were significantly negatively correlated with BF (P < 0.05). Importantly, the bacteria significantly positively correlated with BF mainly belong to Clostridium, which can ferment host-indigestible plant polysaccharides into shortchain fatty acid (SCFA) and promote fat synthesis and deposition. Predictive functional analysis indicated that the pathway abundance of cell motility and glycan biosynthesis were significantly widespread in the microbiota of the H-BF group. The results of this study will be useful for the development of microbial biomarkers for predicting and improving porcine BF, as well as for the investigation of targets for dietary strategies.
