NSGA-II Technique for Multi-objective Generation Dispatch of Thermal Generators with Nonsmooth Fuel Cost Functions

Rajkumar, M.,Mahadevan, K.,Kannan, S.,Baskar, S. The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2014 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.9 No.2

Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is applied for solving Combined Economic Emission Dispatch (CEED) problem with valve-point loading of thermal generators. This CEED problem with valve-point loading is a nonlinear, constrained multi-objective optimization problem, with power balance and generator capacity constraints. The valve-point loading introduce ripples in the input-output characteristics of generating units and make the CEED problem as a nonsmooth optimization problem. To validate its effectiveness of NSGA-II, two benchmark test systems, IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 118-bus systems are considered. To compare the Pareto-front obtained using NSGA-II, reference Pareto-front is generated using multiple runs of Real Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) with weighted sum of objectives. Comparison with other optimization techniques showed the superiority of the NSGA-II approach and confirmed its potential for solving the CEED problem. Numerical results show that NSGA-II algorithm can provide Pareto-front in a single run with good diversity and convergence. An approach based on Technique for Ordering Preferences by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is applied on non-dominated solutions obtained to determine Best Compromise Solution (BCS).

Design and Experimental Investigation of Zeta Converter Fed Reduced Switch Multi-stage Grid Connected Boost MLI

        Rajkumar M.,Rathinam A. 대한전기학회 2024 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.19 No.1

Single-phase grid-tied inverter is a promising structure for low wattage sustainable Energy systems due to its compact size, fexible operation and lower cost. The traditional system employs a boost converter and a full bridge inverter to pump the energy from sustainable sources to the utility grid. The traditional boost converter has bounded operation in increasing or decreasing the dc voltage from sources like PV modules. The full bridge three-level PWM inverter, on the other hand, increases switching losses, devices with high voltage/current capacity, and electromagnetic interference. This work tries to address the faults highlighted earlier by introducing a modifed reduced switch count Multi-stage Boost Inverter. This setup has two stages, a zeta converter used for limitless operation across the working range and a reduced count multilevel inverter. This setup has ability to boost the input DC voltage with voltage self-balancing and convert to AC voltage. This setup has a current control technique is used to synchronize the inverter output sinusoidal and in-phase with the grid parameters. This technique is also used to control the duty cycle to maintain the required output voltage at converter side. Usefulness of the presented work is analyzed in MATLAB/Simulink and an experimental prototype is constructed to verify the simulated response.

Combined Economic and Emission Dispatch with Valve-point loading of Thermal Generators using Modified NSGA-II

Rajkumar, M.,Mahadevan, K.,Kannan, S.,Baskar, S. The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2013 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.8 No.3

This paper discusses the application of evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithms namely Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) and Modified NSGA-II (MNSGA-II) for solving the Combined Economic Emission Dispatch (CEED) problem with valve-point loading. The valve-point loading introduce ripples in the input-output characteristics of generating units and make the CEED problem as a non-smooth optimization problem. IEEE 57-bus and IEEE 118-bus systems are taken to validate its effectiveness of NSGA-II and MNSGA-II. To compare the Pareto-front obtained using NSGA-II and MNSGA-II, reference Pareto-front is generated using multiple runs of Real Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) with weighted sum of objectives. Furthermore, three different performance metrics such as convergence, diversity and Inverted Generational Distance (IGD) are calculated for evaluating the closeness of obtained Pareto-fronts. Numerical results reveal that MNSGA-II algorithm performs better than NSGA-II algorithm to solve the CEED problem effectively.

Effect of Naked Neck Gene on Immune Competence, Serum Biochemical and Carcass Traits in Chickens under a Tropical Climate

        Rajkumar, U.,Reddy, B.L.N.,Rajaravindra, K.S.,Niranjan, M.,Bhattacharya, T.K.,Chatterjee, R.N.,Panda, A.K.,Reddy, M.R.,Sharma, R.P. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2010 Animal Bioscience Vol.23 No.7

A comprehensive study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of naked neck (Na) gene on immune competence, serum biochemical parameters and carcass quality traits in three genotypes (NaNa, Nana and nana) of the naked neck chicken under a tropical climate (Southern India). Sixty day-old chicks (20 from each genotype) were selected randomly and reared under similar environmental conditions up to eight weeks of age. The cell mediated immune (CMI) response to phytohaemoagglutinin-P (PHA-P) was significantly higher ($p{\lgq}0.01$) in NaNa and Nana genotypes compared to nana birds. The humoral response as measured by antibody titre to sheep red blood cells (SRBC) was also significantly higher in NaNa. The total cholesterol, LDL and VLDL cholesterol levels were significantly ($p{\leq}0.01$) lower whereas HDL cholesterol level was significantly higher in NaNa and Nana compared to nana genotype. The presence of Na allele significantly increased the live weight and dressing yield, and decreased the feather cover and abdominal fat. The naked neck genotypes (NaNa/Nana) performed better than the normal (nana) siblings for almost all the traits studied.

      • An Authenticated Privacy Preserving Multiword Data Retrieval over Encrypted Cloud

        M. Newlin Rajkumar,S. Palaniswami,V. Venkatesa Kumar,V. Durga Shankar 한국산업정보학회 2014 한국산업정보학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.1

Cloud Computing, the long term goal of utility computing has transformed the IT industry a lot. Data constantly contain sensitive information should be secured by policies and regulation defined by various organizations. However, information on cloud always causes privacy problems. Data encryption protects privacy and confidentiality but efficiency is not ensured. Symmetric Searchable Encryption (SSE) and Order Preserving Encryption (OPE) inevitably leaks the data and cloud users arc not authorized by the cloud. We propose, Trusted Centre Searchable Encryption (TCSE) which support multi keyword retrieval and user authentication. In TCSE, we employ a vector space model. Homomorphic encryption and a trusted center. The vector space model provides efficiency in accurate searching, homomorphic encryption involves in reducing computation cost and trusted center ensures access control in the cloud. Our approach guarantees practical efficiency for authentication and high security by eliminating data outflow.

Evaluation of Growth, Carcass, Immune Response and Stress Parameters in Naked Neck Chicken and Their Normal Siblings under Tropical Winter and Summer Temperatures

        Rajkumar, U.,Reddy, M.R.,Rao, S.V. Rama,Radhika, K.,Shanmugam, M. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2011 Animal Bioscience Vol.24 No.4

The performance of naked neck and normal chicken was evaluated with respect to growth, carcass, immune, biochemical and stress parameters under winter and summer seasons to assess the suitability of naked neck birds under high temperatures in the global scenario of climate change. The growth performance was significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) higher in naked neck chicken in the summer season. The dressing percentage was significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) higher in naked neck birds in both winter and summer season because of reduced plumage. The thigh, giblet and feather proportion significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) varied between naked neck and normal chickens in summer season. The humeral immune response to sheep red blood cells (SRBC), Newcastle disease vaccine (NDV) and cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity (CBH) did not show any significant differences among the chicken groups. The protein and cholesterol concentration observed was within the normal ranges. The total cholesterol levels in plasma were significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) lower in naked neck birds in both the seasons. H:L ratio was significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) lower in summer season indicating less stress in naked neck chicken. Basophil and eosinophil concentration was significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) higher in normal chicken in summer. The lipid peroxidation was higher in full feathered birds under summer stress. The enzyme glutathione reductase (GR) levels were significantly higher during the summer and varied significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) between the normal and naked neck chicken in both seasons. The results indicated that the naked neck birds performed significantly better at high ambient temperatures with respect to growth, carcass and biochemical parameters. It was concluded that the ability of the naked neck chicken to adapt to high temperatures foresees a viable option for the biological mitigation of climate change.

Sulfur cloaked with different carbonaceous materials for high performance lithium sulfur batteries

        P. Rajkumar,K. Diwakar,R. Subadevi,R.M. Gnanamuthu,M. Sivakumar 한국물리학회 2019 Current Applied Physics Vol.19 No.8

Carbon matrices have attracted the attention enthusiastically as the improver materials of sulfur for rechargeable lithium-sulfur battery. In this work, various morphologies (sphere, fiber, tube and layer) based carbon materials have been used for preparing the sulfur-carbon binary composites via melt diffusion method for lithium-sulfur battery application. The prepared binary composites have been characterized for its structural and morphological information using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and, Scanning and Transmission electron microscopy. The electrochemical studies are characterized by cyclic voltammetry, charge-discharge and cycle life after being assembled as lithium-sulfur cell. The S-prGO composite exhibits the initial discharge capacity of 893 mAh g−1 and it sustains over 50 cycles (598 mAh g−1) at 0.1C, with low capacity fading rate when compared to the other composites studied. A remarkable electrochemical performance indicates that the sheet like morphology can accommodate the volume expansion of sulfur and the oxygen groups containing GO minimize the dissolution of lithium polysulfides.
