Following the collaborator meetings report towards practical engineering education at universities(June 2010), the PioneeringUniversity Reform Project supported by The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT) of Japansolicited opinions from industry, professional associations, and academia on the goals of the individual fields, as well as commongoals, that could be adaptable and applicable for a broad range of universities and curricula. This paper gives an overview of twosurveys that were conducted, as well as a summary of the mechanical engineering goals as an example of the individual fields.

<P>The development of NMR/MRI REBa2Cu3O <I>y</I> (REBCO, RE?=?rare earth) magnets is happening all over the world. It has been found that screening current-induced magnetic fields (SCMFs) are a serious problem for NMR/MRI magnets wound with REBCO tapes. The reduction of SCMFs is strongly desired, and the estimation of SCMFs is also desired at the design stage of REBCO magnets. In order to evaluate a SCMF, a finite element method (FEM) or a boundary integration method is needed thus far, and a high-level simulation technique is required. In this paper, we develop an easy method to estimate a SCMF without a high-level simulation technique. In this method, the inductance of a winding turn is calculated and then a screening current is estimated according to the magnetic field penetrating into the winding turn. The SCMF is obtained from the estimated screening current. The SCMFs computed by the proposed method were compared with measurements and simulation results of the FEM. The results agreed well, but we can see a large difference. However, the SCMFs found by the proposed method are accurate enough to know they are at the design stage without the use of a high-level simulation technique.</P>
Japanese Kindergarten Teachers' Belief on Intellectual and Social Development
Bernard Spodek,Hiroshi Ashida,Riyo Kadota,Masatoshi Suzuki,Kiyomi Akita,Yutaka Oda,Takako Noguchi 한국유아교육학회 2004 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION Vol.10 No.1
Early childhood education in Japan has traditionally been described by researchers from abroad in dichotomous terms, for example, “individualism vs. collectivism,” “formal and intellectual learning vs. affective learning.” “independence vs. interdependence.” This study illustrates the facilitation of intellectual and social development by Japanese kindergarten teachers not as two opposing ideas, instead, it shows intellectual and social development as complementing each other as children develop intelligence and independence.Building on Tobin’s methodology and video recording of kindergartens, a new approach portrays teachers’ personal philosophies on early childhood education and instruction. Although the methodology can and will be improved, its basic validity has been affirmed.

Fern gametophyte is a good model system to investigate signal transduction in plant cells. In this work, we examined whether CDPKs are involved in the mechanisms of spore germination of the fern Osmunda japonica. A protein extract from the spores included four CDPK isoforms with relative molecular weights of 56,53,49, and 47 kDa, as detected by immunoblot analysis, and they showed CDPK-like activities, as detected by in-gel protein-kinase assay. It was also found that the inhibitors effective on CDPKs, such as a general protein kinase inhibitor, K252a, and a calmodulin antagonist, W-7, largely suppressed the spore germination, and that many proteins of the spores were phosphorylated in vivo in a calcium dependent manner in the period when the spores require external Ca^(2+) for the germination. Furthermore, we showed that Sr^(2+) and Mn^(2+) , which could substitute for Ca^(2+) in the spore germination, were also able to activate the Osmunda CDPKs. From these results, we concluded that CDPKs would participate in the spore germination of O. japnica.
