Cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity is inhibited by Taxilli Ramulus

        Lee, Gihyun,Lee, Jun-Ho,Ham, Kyoung Keun,Lee, Hyojung,Kim, Hyunseong,Lee, Hyeonhoon,Hong, Moochang,Shin, Minkyu,Bae, Hyunsu 대한독성유전단백체학회 2012 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.10 No.2

Taxilli Ramulus has been shown have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Cisplatin is the most active cytotoxic anti-cancer drugs. However, the nephrotoxicity of cisplatin limits its use as a therapeutic. In the present study, we examined whether Taxilli Ramulus could protect against cisplatin induced acute renal failure in mice. Taxilli Ramulus were administrated orally once a day for 3 days (150 or 300 mg/kg body wt). After 3 days, all groups of mice received a single dose of cisplatin (25 mg/kg (body wt)) intraperitoneally. Taxilli Ramulus treatment ameliorated renal dysfunction 72 h after cisplatin injection. Taxilli Ramulus treated group had significantly reduced levels of proinflammatory cytokines when compared to the control group. These results show that Taxilli Ramulus is a potent herbal medicine that can reduce cisplatin nephrotoxicity. It also demonstrates that Taxilli Ramulus can prevent the renal toxic effects caused by cisplatin.

In this present study, the effect of filling ratio on the operation limit of HCLPHP (Horizontal Closed Loop Pulsating Heat Pipe) was investigated experimentally. The HCLPHP was made of stainless steel 316 tube (outer diameter = 1.6 mm, inner diameter = 1.0 mm) which meandered between the cooling and the heating sections with 30 turns (60 channels). R-134a was used as the working fluid and the filling ratio was set to be 40, 50 and 60%. The maximum heat transfer rate at the 40%-filling ratio was higher than other cases (50 and 60%). When the heat input exceeds a certain value which is the operation limit, the evaporator temperature rises as the liquid in the evaporator dries out. At the dryout condition, the increasing rate of the temperature was rapid without any fluctuations for the filling ratio of 40%, but becoming gradual with fluctuations for higher filling ratios.

Ubiscript: A Script Language for Ubiquitous Environment

Minkyu Lee,Dongsoo Han 한국정보과학회 2011 Journal of Computing Science and Engineering Vol.5 No.2

Many distributed and heterogeneous services and devices are accessible in ubiquitous computing environment, so interoperating those services and devices is one of the key tasks in implementing ubiquitous applications. We used to use script languages in integrating such interoperating components and services. However currently available most script languages are not suitable for ubiquitous environment because there are so diverse forms of interoperation targets such as service objects, web, legacy objects and programmable devices. So it is worthwhile designing a new script language well-suited to ubiquitous environment. In this paper, we propose a new script language, called Ubiscript, for the ubiquitous environment. We develop and adopt several unique language features such as remote scope, multiple contexts, web and legacy objects, remote exception handling, etc. in Ubiscript to overcome the limitations of conventional script languages. In this paper, we also describe the implementation of Ubiscript and its runtime system. A couple of ubiquitous applications were developed in Ubiscript, and the applications are tested on the runtime system. According to our experiences and evaluation, Ubiscript turned out to have a high potential in its expression power and contribution to improving ubiquitous application developers’ productivity.

      • Steam Pressurizer Characteristic Evaluation for Overpressure Protection Analysis of an Integral Reactor

        Minkyu Lee(이민규),Seungyeob Ryu(유승엽),Juhyeon Yoon(윤주현),Young In Kim(김영인) 대한기계학회 2017 대한기계학회 춘추학술대회 Vol.2017 No.11

A series of transient analyses related to overpressure protection of an integral reactor is conducted to investigate the steam pressurizer (PZR) characteristic. The transient is considered the loss of load accident with delay reactor trip, and it yields thermally induced surge flow into PZR. The in-surged flow leads the excessive pressurization, and the system shall be protected from the overpressure by the Pressurizer Safety Valve (PSV). Mixing model and two phase depressurization model are considered to evaluate the PZR pressure behavior during the transient. Critical flow model is considered to be developed at throat of PSV when the saturated steam is discharged through the PSVs. Numerical analysis results show that the reactor can be provided overpressure protection with the PSV opening. Additionally, the flashing phenomenon is found during the depressurization, and the depressurization rate is reduced by the phase change effect after the onset of flashing.

        Creation Symbols

        Minkyu Lee(이민규) 한국기독교학회 2016 한국기독교신학논총 Vol.102 No.-

Hermann Gunkel demonstrated that the Near Eastern mythology of god’s creation of the universe out of watery chaos at the beginning of time (Urzeit) deeply involved the vision of the restoration at the end of time (Endzeit) in early Jewish and Christian apocalyptic writings. In fact, symbols of creation in the book of Genesis reappear in the apocalyptic literature to build the vision of the end of time. Here the inter-textual usage of symbols clearly exhibits theological association between the theme of creation and the eschatological vision; and it also presents the biblical world-view that the beginning of time (Urzeit) deeply involved the vision of the end of time (Endzeit). From this perspective, this article deals with the connection of symbols of creation among the creation narrative in Genesis 2:9-14, the last vision in Ezekiel 47:1-12, and the book of Revelation 21-22. The article concentrates on “river” and “the tree of life” in each text, investigating how symbols of creation are intertwined between texts in terms of Urzeit and Endzeit scheme.

      • A fouling model for simulating long-term performance of SWRO desalination process

Lee, Young Geun,Lee, Yun Seok,Kim, Do Yeon,Park, Minkyu,Yang, Dae Ryook,Kim, Joon Ha Elsevier 2012 Journal of membrane science Vol.401 No.-

<P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► Development of a fouling model that considered the concentration polarization. ► Practical application of the fouling model to the operation data of an actual plant. ► Effects of membrane rearrangement and replacement on membrane maintenance. ► Proposal of an appropriate strategy for membrane maintenance of SWRO desalination process.</P> <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A fouling model for the seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) process is required to propose an appropriate strategy for membrane maintenance (i.e., membrane cleaning and replacement). In this study, a fouling model that considered the concentration polarization was properly developed to simulate the long-term performance of the SWRO process based on models from the literature. The model was practically applied to one-year operation data obtained from the Fujairah SWRO desalination plant with parameter estimation, and good agreement between the measured data and simulated results was obtained for both the rejection and recovery rates. Compared to an integrated model consisting of two models from the literature, the fouling model proposed in this study showed reliable performance for membrane fouling such as the increase in the permeate TDS concentration according to operating time. In addition, simulations for membrane maintenance were conducted based on the variation in membrane resistance, which reflects the fouling state of the membrane. These revealed that the rearrangement of membranes is not significantly effective without cleaning the fouled membrane. Instead, a partial replacement of membranes can be an effective maintenance scheme to increase the recovery rate. Accordingly, the results of the study presented here can be used to save operation and maintenance (O&M) costs in SWRO plants through the optimized management of fouled membranes.</P>

      • Platinum-decorated reduced graphene oxide/polyaniline:poly(4-styrenesulfonate) hybrid paste for flexible dipole tag-antenna applications.

        Lee, Jun Seop,Kim, Minkyu,Lee, Choonghyeon,Cho, Sunghun,Oh, Jungkyun,Jang, Jyongsik RSC Pub 2015 Nanoscale Vol.7 No.8

<P>With recent developments in technology, tremendous effort has been devoted to producing materials for flexible device systems. As a promising approach, solution-processed conducting polymers (CPs) have been extensively studied owing to their facile synthesis, high electrical conductivity, and various morphologies with diverse substrates. Here, we report the demonstration of platinum decorated reduced graphene oxide intercalated polyanililne:poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (Pt_rGO/PANI:PSS) hybrid paste for flexible electric devices. First, platinum decorated reduced graphene oxide (Pt_rGO) was fabricated through the chemical reduction of platinum cations and subsequent heat reduction of GO sheets. Then, the Pt_rGO was mixed with PANI:PSS solution dispersed in diethylene glycol (DEG) using sonication to form a hybrid PANI-based paste (Pt_rGO/PANI:PSS). The Pt_rGO/PANI:PSS was printed as a micropattern and exhibited high electrical conductivity (245.3 S cm(-1)) with flexible stability. Moreover, it was used in a dipole tag antenna application, where it displayed 0.15 GHz bandwidth and high transmitted power efficiency (99.6%).</P>
