Vol.- No.1
Occupational disease among typists such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) and tendonitis has increased along with the rapid expansion of office automation. During typing, the posture can be defined as forearm pronation, ulnar abduction, wrist extension and finger flexion. The CTS results from awkward posture between forearm-wrist-hand and the keyboard arrangement. Therefore, ergonomic principles should be emphasized in keyboard design. The objective of the study is to improve keyboard design by analyzing anatomical posture of forearm and hand during typing. An experimental study was performed to investigate relationships between a keyboard and typing performance. Results showed that typing performance is dependent to angles and slopes of a keyboard. Statistcal analysis indicated that the suggested ergonomic keyboard improved typing speed significantly(17%).

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate and to validate feasibility of the earlier proposal on ergonomic approach for High-Touch product development, which was published in IE Interface (April, 1988). Based on the proposed methods, six new High Touch products were developed. Expert opinions and consumer monitoring results, which was carried out in the United States, showed that these High Touch products would be highly regarded in the world market. It is recommended that the proposed efforts could provide a prosperous niche market for Korean industry in the High Tech-High Touch Era.
Manipulation of the Toll-Like Receptor 7 Signaling Pathway by Epstein-Barr Virus
Martin, Heather J.,Lee, Jae Myun,Walls, Dermot,Hayward, S. Diane American Society for Microbiology 2007 Journal of virology Vol.81 No.18
ABSTRACT
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection of primary B cells causes B-cell activation and proliferation. Activation of B cells requires binding of antigen to the B-cell receptor and a survival signal from ligand-bound CD40, signals that are provided by the EBV LMP1 and LMP2A latency proteins. Recently, Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling has been reported to provide a third B-cell activation stimulus. The interaction between the EBV and TLR pathways was therefore investigated. Both UV-inactivated and untreated EBV upregulated the expression of TLR7 and downregulated the expression of TLR9 in naive B cells. UV-inactivated virus transiently stimulated naive B-cell proliferation in the presence of the TLR7 ligand R837, while addition of the TLR7 antagonist IRS 661 impaired cell growth induced by untreated EBV. Interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF-5) is a downstream mediator of TLR7 signaling. IRF-5 was induced following EBV infection, and IRF-5 was expressed in B-cell lines with type III latency. Expression of IRF-5 in this setting is surprising since IRF-5 has tumor suppressor and antiviral properties. B-cell proliferation assays provided evidence that EBV modulates TLR7 signaling responses. Examination of IRF-5 transcripts identified a novel splice variant, V12, that was induced by EBV infection, was constitutively nuclear, and acted as a dominant negative form in IRF-5 reporter assays. IRF-4 negatively regulates IRF-5 activation, and IRF-4 was also present in type III latently infected cells. EBV therefore initially uses TLR7 signaling to enhance B-cell proliferation and subsequently modifies the pathway to regulate IRF-5 activity.

Compact mobile handset MIMO antenna for LTE700 applications
Bae, Hongpyo,Harackiewicz, Frances J.,Park, Myun-Joo,Kim, Taekyun,Kim, Namhoon,Kim, Deokyun,Lee, Byungje Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2010 MICROWAVE AND OPTICAL TECHNOLOGY LETTERS Vol.52 No.11

A compact mobile handset multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna for LTE700 applications is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of two side-to-side printed symmetrical printed inverted-F antennas (PIFAs), a capacitively coupled feed, a suspended line, and a branch line. A wide impedance bandwidth at relatively lower frequency is achieved with the capacitively coupled feed. Good isolation (>12 dB) and low correlation coefficient (< 0.1) between the MIMO antennas are obtained by adding the branch line in conjunction with the suspended line. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Multiband antenna using a half-wavelength loaded line structure for mobile handheld systems
Jung, Byungwoon,Shin, Hoo,Harackiewicz, Frances J.,Park, Myun-Joo,Lee, Byungje Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2006 MICROWAVE AND OPTICAL TECHNOLOGY LETTERS Vol.48 No.9

A novel multiband internal antenna is proposed, which can be applied for GSM(880–960 MHz), GPS(1575.42 MHz), DCS(1710–1880 MHz), PCS(1850–1990 MHz), and WCDMA(1920–2170 MHz) band mobile handheld systems, by using a half-wavelength loaded line structure (HWLLS). The proposed antenna is a combined structure of HWLLS and a shorted monopole. A gap is cut between the antenna shorting pad and the PCB ground plane of system. Then this gap is connected by a chip inductor in order to easily control the upper frequency bands, DCS, PCS, and WCDMA without degradation of resonant characteristics in the lower bands, GSM and GPS. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed antenna provides enough effective bandwidth (VSWR <2.5) to cover all five bands with the peak gain variation of less than 0.53 dB with varying the chip inductance of less than 3.3 nH. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Role of food and clay particles in toxicity of copper and diazinon using Daphnia magna
Jeon, Junho,Sung Ra, Jin,Hong Lee, Sun,Lee, Myun J.,Yu, Seung H.,Don Kim, Sang Elsevier 2010 Ecotoxicology and environmental safety Vol.73 No.3

Abstract

Toxicity changes in copper and diazinon were investigated in the presence of food, clay, and their mixture by using Daphnia magna. In sorption equilibrium experiments, copper was significantly attracted (>34% sorbed) to food, clay, and food–clay mixture due to their negative zeta potential, while diazinon was less sorbed (<11%). In the exposure test with food and clay particles, it was revealed that copper was remarkably reduced in the presence of clay particles indicating the change in bioavailability of copper by sorption to clay. This was considered as the primary mechanism for toxicity reduction whereas diazinon toxicity was food dependent in the analysis of toxicity using toxicity change index (TCI). It was also shown that certain foods could not only act as a sorbent to copper and diazinon, but also as a material of energy source to alleviate the toxic damage. Meanwhile, clay can be considered as a prominent sorbent to copper but not to diazinon and can inhibit the sorption interaction between foodstuffs and toxicants through the aggregation and sedimentation processes. Furthermore, clay particles, as shown in TCI analysis, may be a potentially risky material as a physiological stressor or a toxicant carrier in contaminated environments.
