        Morphological and molecular analysis of indigenous Myanmar mango (Mangifera indica L.) landraces around Kyaukse district

        There is vast genetic diversity of Myanmar Mangoes. This study mainly focused on indigenous thirteen different mango landraces cultivated in central area of Myanmar, Kyauk-se District and their fruit characteristics by 18 descriptors together with genetic relationship among them by 12 SSR markers. Based on the morpho-physical characters, a wide variation among accessions was found. Genetic characterization of thirteen mango genotypes resulted in the detection of 302 scorable polymorphic bands with an average of 4.33 alleles per locus and an average polymorphism information content (PIC) of 0.7. All the genotypes were grouped into two major clusters by UPGMA cluster analysis and a genetic similarity was observed in a range of 61 ~ 85%. This study may somehow contribute insights into the identification of regional mango diversity in Myanmar and would be useful for future mango breeding program.

        Sentiment Analysis of User-Generated Content on Drug Review Websites

        This study develops an effective method for sentiment analysis of user-generated content on drug review websites, which has not been investigated extensively compared to other general domains, such as product reviews. A clause-level sentiment analysis algorithm is developed since each sentence can contain multiple clauses discussing multiple aspects of a drug. The method adopts a pure linguistic approach of computing the sentiment orientation (positive, negative, or neutral) of a clause from the prior sentiment scores assigned to words, taking into consideration the grammatical relations and semantic annotation (such as disorder terms) of words in the clause. Experiment results with 2,700 clauses show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, and it performed significantly better than the baseline approaches using a machine learning approach. Various challenging issues were identified and discussed through error analysis. The application of the proposed sentiment analysis approach will be useful not only for patients, but also for drug makers and clinicians to obtain valuable summaries of public opinion. Since sentiment analysis is domain specific, domain knowledge in drug reviews is incorporated into the sentiment analysis algorithm to provide more accurate analysis. In particular, MetaMap is used to map various health and medical terms (such as disease and drug names) to semantic types in the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Semantic Network.

      • Effects of polysaccharide fractions from phellodendron chinese SCHNEID on tumor progression and immunopontentiation

        In the previous paper (Kim et al., Glycoconjugate Journal 16, 247-252, 1999), heteropolysaccharides from Korean medicinal plant, Phellodendri cortex (Hwangbek) showed a poten B-Iymphocyte-stimulating activity in a system using polyclonal antibody forming cells in C57BL/6XC3H mice at dosages of 2-10 mg. In a series of biolgical active polysaccharides from natural medicinal plants, the polysaccharide fractions were isolated and purified from Phellodendron chinese SCHNEID, and antitumor activities were examined at dosages of 2, 5 and 10 mg/100 g. F-7 and F-8 showed the highest tumor inhibitory activities (inhibition ratio 96.4 and 98.2% in 2 mg/100 g), and in dose of 5 mg/100 g, the inhibitory ratios were 95.3 and 97.5%, respectively. Furthermore, 10 mg/100 g of intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection gave 97.3 and 98.7% of inhibition. In oral administration, the inhibitory activities were not markedly observed, indicating that the polysaccharides are directly acting to immune system. When the effects on TS and TK activities were determined, TS activities in the F-2 and F-7-treated mice were markedly suppressed to 73.7% and 79.5% of that in the control (p<0.01), while there was little difference in TK activity with a slight decrease in F-2 only. However, in i.p. injection, TS activities in the F-2, F-5, F-7 and F-8-treated mice were markedly suppressed to 83% to 85% of that in the control (p<0.01). Furthermore, there was also significant differences in TK activities in F-2, F-5, F-7 and F-8-treated mice (p<0.05). Therefore, polysaccharide fraction F-8 was further purified to active fractions of F-9 and F-11 by gel permeation chromatography using TSK Gel HW50S. The purified polysaccharides of F-9 and F-11 were composed of GlcNAc (47.3%), Gal (24.7%) and Man (28.0%). These results clearly indicated that the i.p. injection is much effective to suppress tumor growth than oral administration.

        Nowadays, the environmental pollution is mainly due to an increase and centralization of population, industrial development, an increasing rate of using resources including energy, and false habit in lifestyle. In order to educate envirinmental problems more effectively, students who live in the local area have to take the problems as their own questions via field experiences and investigations for the environmental reality and have to live with recognizing the necessity for improving the environmental problems. Thus the environmental education requires the form of complete education for the full life. The successful results will be turned out with the participation of household, school, and society. It is believed that the problems are solved by educational training on enviroment in home, school, and society. Therefore, basic solutions responsible for the recent serious environmental problems in our region are to improve materials with which we can undergo the localized environment and to direct by applying environmental learning model. The environmental problems could be effectively solved by propagating, by instructing continuously, and by practing the learning program in relation to home, school, and local society. In the future, desirable consciousness and practical attitude on environmental preservation will be intensively broadened through continuous practicing by living up to practical attitude and by strengthening interest in the around natural environment and experience activity for solutions of the problems.

      • 유리 용해로 축열실 상재 하중 증가에 따른 Rider Arch의 안전성 검토

        유리용해로의 축열실은 폐연소가스로 열을저장하며, 유리용해로에 유입되는 흡입공기를 예열시키는 역할을 한다. 유리용해산업에서 연료소비를 줄이기 위하여 절연법, 단열벽돌, 공기누출등이 오래 연구되었다. 또한 새로운 형태의 단열벽돌과 Rider arch가 유리용해로의 수명연장을 위하여 연구되고 있다. 본 연구는 연구대상공장의 이전설치시 유리용해로의 축열실이 5.64m에서 7.89m로 높이가 높아졌고 이에 따른 축열실 하중증가에 의하여 Rider arch가 더 높은 응력을 받게 되었다. 이런 조건에서 Rider arch의 기계적 안정성을 본 연구에서 검토하였다. 계산식에 의하면 하중증가에 따른 Rider arch의 응력은 안정한 것으로 평가되었고 Rider arch가 견딜수 있는 최대 압축응력은 163kg/$cm^2$이고, 최대전단응력은 6.37kg/$cm^2$이다. The regenerator is important part of the glass melting furnace to increase the temperature of the intake air through the combustion flame. The insulation, checker brick, prevention of the air leak has been studied to decrease the fuel consumption in glass melting industries. Thus the new types of checker brick and the design of the rider arch has been studied to prolong the life of the glass melting furnace. The height of the regenerator increased from 5.64 m to 7.89 m in the reforming of the glass melting furnace. Thus the stability of the rider arch is studied under the condition of increased load of checker brick in this research. The rider arch was estimated to be stable inspite of the increase of load according to the calculation. The max. sustained compressive stress of the rider arch is 163 kg/$cm^2$ and the max. sustained shear stress is 6.37 kg/$cm^2$.
