        Notes : Simple Self Trap Cropping System to Control Tukra Mealy Bug (Maconellicoccus hirsutus Green) Incidence on Mulberry (Morus spp.).

        A field study on self trap cropping system in controlling tukra mealy bug Maconellicoccus hirsutus Green) incidence on mulberry (Morus spp.; V-1 variety; 3`x3` spacing) gardens was undertaken in selected sericulture farmers` mulberry gardens of Pydeti village (Parigi Mandal, Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh, India). The study was conducted for three years (2004, 2005 and 2006). Four treatments (T0; control/no treatment, T1; self trap cropping rows with 10 row interval, T2; self trap cropping rows with 10 row interval and treating these rows only with 0.5% neem oil emulsion and T3; self trap cropping rows with 10 rows intervals and treating all the mulberry rows including self trap cropping rows with 0.5% neem oil emulsion) were considered. The results indicated that the incidence increased in T0 and T1 while the same suppressed in T2 and T3. The suppression (%) of tukra incidence between T2 and T3 was not significant. Hence, T2 only was recommended to farmers as its economical viable practice. The results are discussed based on the importance of tukra, its suppression and cost of treatment.

        Inclusive Innovation in India: Historical Roots

        Inclusive innovation refers to different types and forms of innovation activities or performance by which we can get more for lesser cost and which could cater and meet the needs and demands of more people. The essence of inclusive innovation is to help poor, marginalized and underprivileged sections of society to improve their livelihoods and enable them to climb up the socio-economic ladder. In the current phase of economic slowdown, increasing unemployment and inequalities, World Bank, OECD and various governments are turning towards inclusive innovation as a new source of optimism or even as a new innovation strategy. Whilst it is being reframed or packaged as a novel or a new strategy, one can trace its historical roots to the AT movement and the Gandhian ideas of economy and society in the 1940s and 1950s. These ideas have inspired and influenced a range of individuals, institutions and civil society groups in inclusive innovation.

In this paper we explore the effective time utilization, without influencing the deadline requirements of typical hard real time task ,there are no limitation on the new results each task can be periodic or sporadic ,with relative deadline which can be less than ,equivalent to or greater than its period, it is too fast , best-effort ,effective real time scheduling algorithm for a wide variety of job parameters.

        Inclusive Innovation in India: Contemporary Landscape

        The essence of inclusive innovation is to serve poor, marginalized and underprivileged sections of society to improve their livelihoods and enable them to climb up the socio-economic ladder. In this article, we explore the contemporary Indian landscape. There is a diversity of institutions and institutional approaches, multiple methodologies and goals in promoting inclusive innovations in this landscape. There are grassroots innovation institutions. All these institutions and groups have demonstrated how to improve the living conditions of poor people and enhance their income. They have developed different methodologies of inclusive innovation to intervene, build capacities and capabilities of poor people towards bridging informal and formal sectors of economy. Indian landscape can now boast of some successful models and a "social laboratory" for inclusive innovation. The challenge, however, remains to replicate and multiply these models to impact other sectors of Indian informal economy.

        Universities in India's National System of Innovation: An Overview

        The status and functioning of Indian universities is explored in the Indian context from an NSI perspective. Whilst NSI is the main guiding post, the very social and economic context of Indian situation reflect the theoretical underpinning of this paper. The First part serves as a background to knowledge institutions and university sector in India. Basically, it identifies the main actors and agencies of India's NSI, namely, public research system comprising national laboratories, main science and technology agencies and councils and the university system. Given the focus of the paper on Indian universities in a macro historical perspective, the Second part is devoted to trace the growth and structure of university sector in terms of three phases, namely, 1940s to 1980; 1980 to 1990; and the era of liberalization after 1991. The Third part of the paper is devoted to knowledge production and knowledge diffusion. There are some important findings coming out of the quantitative data. It is argued that Indian production of doctorates is falling behind countries like China. Further, Indian universities are yet to achieve Humboltian goal. Finally, the paper has a concluding section which concerns with the current and future challenges facing Indian universities and their role in India's NIS.

        Prognostic Importance of Spinopelvic Parameters in the Assessment of Conservative Treatment in Patients with Spondylolisthesis

        Study Design: This was a prospective, two-group comparative study. Purpose: The present study aimed to determine the importance of the spinopelvic parameters in the causation and progression of spondylolisthesis. Overview of Literature: Spondylolisthesis is slippage of one vertebra over the vertebra below. Since the discovery of pelvic incidence (PI) in 1998 in addition to documentation of other parameters in spinopelvic balance, slippage in spondylolisthesis has been attributed to these parameters. Many studies on the Caucasian population have implicated high PI as a causative factor of spondylolisthesis. To the best of our knowledge, no study has described the role of these parameters in the progression of spondylolisthesis. Methods: The study was conducted in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, India. Seventy-nine patients with spondylolisthesis consented to participate in the study. All patients were advised to undergo conservative treatment and were regularly followed up according to the protocol. Seventy-five asymptomatic volunteers were recruited as a control group. Of the total of 79 patients, 54 were followed up for 6 months, during which 46 improved, eight showed no improvement, and 25 were lost to follow-up. Sagittal spinopelvic parameters were measured by a single observer using the Surgimap spine software ver. 2.1.2 (Nemaris, New York, NY, USA). Parameters measured were PI, pelvic tilt (PT), sacral slope (SS), thoracic kyphosis, and lumbar lordosis. The results from patients and controls were compared using appropriate statistical methods. Results: The normal and spondylolisthesis groups significantly differed with respect to PI, SS, and PT (p <0.001). There were no significant differences in the measured spinopelvic parameters between patients with high- and low-grade spondylolisthesis or between those whose condition improved and those whose condition worsened. Conclusions: PI, the most important of all spinopelvic parameters, is responsible for the slip in spondylolisthesis, but not for its progression.

        Laccase Production Using Pleurotus ostreatus 1804 Immobilized on PUFCubes in Batch and Packed Bed Reactors: Influence of Culture Conditions

        The feasibility of laccase production by immobilization of Pleurotus ostreatus 1804 on polyurethane foam (PUF) cubes with respect to media composition was studied in both batch and reactor systems. Enhanced laccase yield was evidenced due to immobilization. A relatively high maximum laccase activity of 312.6 U was observed with immobilized mycelia in shake flasks compared to the maximum laccase activity of free mycelia (272.2 U). It is evident from this study that the culture conditions studied, i.e. biomass level, pH, substrate concentration, yeast extract concentration, Cu2+ concentration, and alcohol nature, showed significant influence on the laccase yield. Gel electrophoretic analysis showed the molecular weight of the laccase produced by immobilized P. ostreatus to be 66 kDa. The laccase yield was significantly higher and more rapid in the packed bed reactor than in the shake flask experiments. A maximum laccase yield of 392.9 U was observed within 144 h of the fermentation period with complete glucose depletion.

        Effect of Potassium Magnesium Citrate and Vitamin B-6 Prophylaxis for Recurrent and Multiple Calcium Oxalate and Phosphate Urolithiasis

        Purpose: To study the effects of long-term treatment with potassium magnesium citrateand vitamin B-6 prophylaxis (Urikind-KM6; 1,100-mg potassium citrate, 375-mg magnesiumcitrate, and 20-mg pyridoxine hydrochloride/5 mL) every 8 hours over 3 years. Materials and Methods: A total of 247 patients with recurrent idiopathic hypocitraturiawith or without hyperuricosuria and randomized controls were studied prospectivelyfor 3 years. The total patients were divided into three groups. Control group 1 consistedof 61 patients (24.7%) who had moderate to severe hypocitraturia with or without hyperuricosuriaand were recurrent stone formers but discontinued prophylaxis because ofdrug intolerance within 1 month of therapy. Control group 2 constituted 53 patients(21.5%) who were first-time stone formers and who had mild hypocitraturia with orwithout hyperuricosuria and were not put on prophylactic therapy and were followedfor 3.16±0.08 years. Control group 3 constituted 133 patients (54.8%) who were recurrentstone formers who had moderate to severe hypocitraturia with or without hyperuricosuriaand were put on prophylaxis therapy and were followed for 3.16±0.08years. All patients were followed up at 6-month intervals. Results: Potassium magnesium citrate prophylaxis produced a sustained increase in24-hour urinary citrate excretion from initially low values (221.79±13.39 mg/dL) towithin normal to high limits (604.04±5.00 mg/dL) at the 6-month follow-up. UrinarypH rose significantly from 5.62±0.2 to 6.87±0.01 and was maintained at 6.87±0.01. Thestone recurrence rate declined from 3.23±1.04 per patient per year to 0.35±0.47 per patientper year. Conclusions: Potassium magnesium citrate prophylaxis was effective in reducing therecurrence of calcium oxalate and phosphate urolithiasis.
