We have studied to synthesize a ZnO-carbon nanofilament composite (ZnO-CNF) as it is expected to yield an interesting properties for sensor applications. The ZnO-CNF is considered to have a large surface area and a high electrical conductivity. The ZnO-supported Co catalysts were used for the synthesis of the ZnO-CNF. In order to fabricate a pattern of the composite for a biosensor, we have tried to prepare a paste from the composite for a screen-printing. We found that Co loaded catalysts exhibited a high catalytic activity for the carbon yields. SEM observation revealed that fibriform carbon deposits were obtained on the surface of the ZnO powder. In the case of using the Co-loaded ZnO catalyst, we found that the diameter of the fibriform carbon nanomaterial depended on the C2H4 concentration in the reaction gas. The reaction conditions are important to control the diameter of the fibriform carbon nanomaterial. The ZnO-CNF paste consisted of the ZnO-CNF, ethyl cellulose, and 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy) ethanol was prepared. The line patterns having 150μm were successfully fabricated with using the paste by screen-printing method.
Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Adherence to Denosumab Therapy: A Single Center Study
Kobayashi Kazuyoshi,Sato Koji,Ando Toshihiro,Ando Kei,Imura Saori 대한척추외과학회 2023 Asian Spine Journal Vol.17 No.5
Study Design: A retrospective comparative study of denosumab therapy adherence before and during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.Purpose: To evaluate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on denosumab therapy adherence in Japan.Overview of Literature: Denosumab is a monoclonal antibody for osteoporosis treatment. Delayed denosumab injections are associated with reduced treatment responses, which was a concern during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Participants included 376 patients who received denosumab (60 mg every 6 months) from January 2013 to June 2021. The time from therapy initiation to discontinuation was used to measure persistence, and that between initial and subsequent injections was used to determine adherence. The pandemic period was from March 2020 to December 2021.Results: Patients were divided into those treated after March 2020 (pandemic group, n=244) and those who discontinued treatment before March 2020 (non-pandemic group, n=132). Non-persistent cases accounted for 154, including 24 (20%), 64 (19%), and 66 (53%) aged ≤59 years, 60–79 years, and ≥80 years, respectively. The overall persistence rate at 78 months was 59.2%. Postponed cases were significantly lower in the non-pandemic group than in the pandemic group (8% vs. 15%, p =0.042). Postponement with a delay of 1–2 months did not significantly differ between the two groups, but with a significant difference for a delay of ≥3 months (0% vs. 36%, p =0.024).Conclusions: Denosumab adherence remained constant but postponed cases significantly increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Better communication by health providers on denosumab adherence and alternative administration may reduce dosing interruptions in similar pandemic situations.
Super-multiview windshield display for driving assistance

A three-dimensional windshield display (3D-WSD) can present driving information at the same depth as the objects in the outside scene. Herein, a super-multiview 3D-WSD is proposed because the super-multiview display technique provides smooth motion parallax. Motion parallax is the only physiological cue for perceiving the depth of a 3D image displayed at a far distance, which cannot be perceived by vergence and binocular parallax. A prototype system with 36 views was constructed, and the discontinuity of motion parallax and accuracy of depth perception were evaluated.

Co-doping diamond is of scientific and technologically interest because a new electrical and/or optical property is expected to obtain. In this study, we have carried out a simultaneous addition of diborane and nitrogen in the gas phase for the growth of co-doping diamonds by microwave plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) method. We measured the cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra of the co-doping diamond films. To investigate the effect of boron-nitrogen co-doping addition on the CL spectra, we compared the CL spectra of boron-nitrogen co-doping diamonds with those of nitrogen-doped diamonds. The results revealed that the addition of boron suppressed the nitrogen incorporation into the CVD diamonds.

Blood vessels and neurons grow often side by side. However, the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying their parallel development remain unclear. Here, we report that a subpopulation of secondary motoneurons extends axons ventrally outside of the neural tubes and rostrocaudally as a fascicle beneath the dorsal aorta (DA) in zebrafish. We tried to clarify the mechanism by which these motoneuron axons grow beneath the DA and found that Vegfc in the DA and Vegfr3 in the motoneurons were essential for the axon growth. Forced expression of either Vegfc in arteries or Vegfr3 in motoneurons resulted in enhanced axon growth of motoneurons over the DA. Both vegfr3 morphants and vegfc morphants lost the alignment of motoneuron axons with DA. In addition, forced expression of two mutant forms of Vegfr3 in motoneurons, potentially trapping endogenous Vegfc, resulted in failure of growth of motoneuron axons beneath the DA. Finally, a vegfr3 mutant fish lacked the motoneuron axons beneath the DA. Collectively, Vegfc from the preformed DA guides the axon growth of secondary motoneurons.

To investigate the microcrack healing behavior of $Si_3N_4-20wt\%SiC-8wt\%Y_2O_3$ composite ceramics(SNCY8), we observe the crack length evolution a! the time of 20, 40, 60 minutes with in-situ optical microscopy by varying healing temperature of $800\~1200^{\circ}C$. Crack healing obviously occurred as heating temperature and time increased. We proposed a simple model of effective diffusion based on the crack length evolution with healing condition, and determined the effective diffusion coefficient as Our result implies that we may predict the healing ability quantitatively with temperature and time in structural ceramics through the effective diffusion coefficient model.
