Fundamental study on electron beam weld sections and strengths using AA6061-T6 aluminum alloy plate

This study was carried out to establish an electron beam welding process for a nuclear fuel plate assembly fabrication. A preliminary investigation for plate fuel fabrication was conducted with a consideration of weld performance using AA6061-T6 aluminum alloy made by the electron beam welding process. The optimum welding parameters for the fuel plate assembly were obtained in terms of the accelerating voltage, beam current and welding time. The soundness of the weld region between the side plate and the end fitting for the fuel plate assembly was proven by the intact of the weld metal on the fractured surfaces. The integrity of the welds by the electron beam welding process was also confirmed by the results of the tensile test, an examination of the cross sections and the fracture surfaces of the welded specimens.
An Analysis of Herding in Korean Stock Market Using Network Theory

We investigate whether herd behavior in equity market is led by ‘core’ stocks or by ‘peripheral’ stocks connected to core stocks, which we identify using the minimum spanning tree, a technique in network theory. Using non-securities stocks listed in the Korea Exchange from January 2005 to December 2015, we find that core stocks are not necessarily the stocks whose market values are large but are mid-sized stocks. As in previous studies, we find strong evidence of herding in the Korean stock market. However, herding arises only when the market is in stress: during bear states, core stocks herd toward to the market return and peripheral stocks herd to core stocks in their clusters. During bull markets, however, adverse herding arises mainly driven by securities stocks and thus cross-sectional dispersion in returns increases.

본 연구에서는 주식시장의 스트레스 상황 하에서 투자자들이 기업의 본질가치 변화나 소속된 산업의 움직임 보다는 네트워크 상에서 밀접하게 ‘연결된 주식’의 가격변화를 추종하는지 여부를 네트워크 이론으로 분석한다. 실증분석 결과, 2005년 1월부터 2015년 12월까지의 기간 동안 한국주식시장에서 군집행동이 나타났으며, 이는 기존의 문헌과도 일치하는 결과이다. 흥미로운 점은 시장이 불황기일 때 군집행동은 주가가 상승하는 경우에 나타난다는 것이다. 이러한 결과는 과신하는 투자자들이 가격 상승이라는 긍정적인 신호에 대해 과민반응하는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 왜냐하면, 시장이 불황일 때는 현재시점의 가격이 낮기 때문에 투자자의 기대수익률이 높은데, 이 때 긍정적인 신호가 나타난다면 이 신호는 높은 수익률을 기대했던 투자자들의 사전적인 믿음과 일치하는 것이므로 자기귀인편향(self-attribution bias)을 유발시키기 때문이다. 반면, 시장 불황기에서 주가가 급락하는 경우에는 군집행동이 항상 나타나지는 않았다. Using network theory, we investigate if investors follow movements of closely ‘connected stocks’ regardless of their fundamentals or industries when investment decision is driven by panic under stress. We find strong evidence of herding in the Korean market for the period from January 2005 to December 2015 as in previous studies in herding. However, herding arises at positive extreme market movements during bear states. We interpret the results as follows: during bear states when the expected market return is high, overconfident investors over-respond to good signals because the signals are consistent with their priors of the high expected market return (self-attribution bias). Herding does not necessarily arise by panic under stress.

Pleural fluid can be divided into transudate and exudate, and the cause of it should be identified for the treatment. Pleural protein, glucose, and LDH were frequently used for differentiation. Recently, several laboratory tests including ADA(Adenosine deaminase) and cholesterol has been used for differentiation of pleural fluid. The ADA and cholesterol in the patients who were treated in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Suregry of Dongguk University Kyungju Hospital and Pohang Sunlin Hospital were studied. The patients were divided into four groups, group Ⅰ for transudate, group Ⅱ for malignant exudate, group Ⅲ for tuberculous exudate, and group Ⅳ for other inflammatory exudate. Statistical analysis was done by using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA in the SPSS 8.0. The WBC count and glucose level were the good tests for the differentiation of pleural fluid, but the LDH level resulted in the borderline. The pleural ADA and cholesterol level were significantly different(p<0.05) between groups. So, these tests were thought to be good predictors for the differentiation of exudate.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A facile method for the direct synthesis of amides from aldehydes is described. Amide bonds were synthesized by an oxidative amidation in the presence of dibromoisocyanuric acid (DBI). Treatment of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes with dibromoisocyanuric acid generated acyl bromide intermediates, which were employed to react with a variety of secondary and primary amines to give amides. Through this reaction method, various amides were synthesized directly from aldehydes under mild conditions in high yields and short times. This facile and efficient procedure provides potential strategy for the direct synthesis of amides from aldehydes.</P> <P><B>Highlight</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Practical direct preparation of amides from aldehydes has been reported. </LI> <LI> Dibromoisocyanuric acid was used to produce amides. </LI> <LI> The oxidative amidations were performed under mild condition. </LI> <LI> Various amides were obtained in high yield. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

We investigated the structural and the mechanical properties of single crystals of the diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) Cd0.63−yMn0.37HgyTe (0 ≤ y ≤ 0.03) grown using a vertical Bridgman method. High-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD) and microhardness measurements were carried out during heating processes from room temperature to 750 K The lattice constants of Cd0.63−yMn0.37HgyTe increased with increasing temperature at temperatures below 600 K, whereas they increased slightly with temperature at temperatures above 700 K. The hardness of Cd0.63−yMn0.37HgyTe increased exponentially with decreasing temperature for T ≤ 600 K and it was temperature-independent for T ≥ 700 K. The Vickers hardness HV decreased with increasing temperature and increased with increasing Hg composition y The activation energy for the dislocation motion was determined from the relation between temperature and hardness.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This paper presents a highly sensitive gas-sensing platform based on a ZnO nanowire (NW) forest circumferentially grown on a suspended single glassy carbon NW. The fabrication was carried out at a wafer level using only batch fabrication processes including carbon-microelectromechanical systems and the hydrothermal method. The suspended architecture and relatively high elastic modulus of the carbon nanowires facilitates selective functionalization on the suspended NW. The circumferentially distributed NW arrangement enhances the accessibility of gas molecule to the ZnO-NW sensing sites, thus facilitating highly sensitive gas sensing. The suspended architecture also enhances efficient mass transfer from the bulk. This novel suspended three-dimensional (3D) NW-based sensor configuration allows better NO<SUB>2</SUB> gas sensing capabilities in terms of the limit of detection (9.45 ppb, S/N = 3), sensitivity (0.393 ppb<SUP>−1</SUP>), and linear sensing range (50–300 ppb) compared to the same type of ZnO-NW-based gas sensor fabricated in contact with the substrate.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A ZnO nanowire forest was circumferentially grown on a suspended carbon nanowire. </LI> <LI> Circumferentially distributed nanowire arrangement allowed efficient gas access. </LI> <LI> Suspended sensor architecture enhanced gas sensing performances. </LI> <LI> Entire nanowire-based sensor devices were fabricated using wafer-level processes. </LI> </UL> </P>
