This paper describes a 3 to 5㎓ frequency synthesizer for MB-OFDM UWB application using 0.13um CMOS process. The frequency synthesizer operates in the band group1 whose center frequencies are 3432㎒, 3960㎒, and 4488㎒. To cover the overall frequencies of group 1, an efficient frequency planning minimizing a number of blocks and the power consumption are proposed. And, a high-frequency VCO and prescaler architecture are also presented in this paper. A new coarse tuning scheme that utilizes the MIM capacitance and the varactor is proposed to expand the VCO tuning range. The single PLL and two SSB-mixers consume 75㎽ from a 1.5V supply. The VCO tuning range is 500㎒. The simulated phase noise of the VCO is -110㏈c/Hz at 1㎒ offset. The die area is 3 × 2㎟.
A Novel Low-Profile Chip Antenna for GPS Application

A novel single-layer low-profile microstrip antenna for Global Positioning System (GPS) application is proposed. The designed antenna consists of microstrip line and four pads for fabrication with system ground. The antenna pattern is folded and similar with fractal structure. The physical length of antenna pattern controls the operation frequency of resonance mode and added four pads are used to install proposed antenna on system ground. The antenna pattern is on FR-4 substrate which is 0.8㎜ in thickness and 10 ㎜ × 10 ㎜ in size. The low-profile structure can be good candidate for compact mobile GPS receiver equipment. The results show that the proposed antenna satisfies 10 ㏈ return loss requirement in the frequency band of GPS. Maximum radiation gain is 0㏈i.
An Extraction Method of Representative Patterns for QA

This paper proposes method to generate patterns which can represent documents. The proposed form of pattern consists of part-of-speech (POS) tags and surface words. The pattern can reflect linguistic information using POS tags. We make candidate patterns using N-gram. We extract top of the k patterns by proposed scoring measure using N-gram frequency and IDF. The proposed pattern extraction method can be applied to a QA system, and extract the representative patterns to an arbitrary question type.

Background: There is limited data on serum activin-A level as a biomarker in the sepsis patients. We aimed to elucidate the diagnostic and prognostic values of serum activin-A in the management of critically ill patients with sepsis. Methods: Seventy-seven adult patients who were clinically diagnosed as sepsis and admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) from January 2013 to March 2014, were investigated and compared with age- and sex-matched controls with tuberculosis. Serum concentration of activin-A was determined from blood sampled within 48 hours after ICU admission. Primary and secondary outcomes were the diagnostic value as biomarker of sepsis, and the prognostic value to predict the clinical outcomes of sepsis, respectively. Results: Serum activin-A level showed insignificant differences between mild sepsis and severe sepsis, but significant differences between non-sepsis and mild sepsis, and between severe sepsis and septic shock. The risk of sepsis and septic shock was significantly higher in patients with serum activin-A level more than 255 pg/mL and 432 pg/mL, respectively (aOR 50.8, 95% CI 14.8-173.8; aOR 18.8, 95% CI 2.8-124.7). Serum activin-A level had a positive correlation with SOFA score (β±SE 58.3±20.7, P=0.006), and significantly associated with ICU mortality (aOR 3.57, 95% CI 1.05-12.15). Conclusions: Serum activin-A has a diagnostic and prognostic value in critically ill patients with sepsis, and discriminant power for the sepsis severity. Serum activin-A level in early phase of sepsis is associated with SOFA score on ICU admission and ICU mortality.

홍화(Carthamus tinctorius L.)는 세계 여러 나라에 분포하고 있는 초본류이다. 이 종은 경제적으로 중요한데 홍화는 약용, 적색소, 노랑 색소로 이용된다. RAPD 기법으로 홍화의 26 집단 간 유연관계와 유전적 다양성을 조사하였다. 모든 집단에서 123개 밴드를 얻었으며 시발체(primer) 당 평균 9.5개 밴드를 나타내었다. 홍화의 유전적 다양도는 집단 내에 대부분 귀속되며 높은 집단 간 분화를 나타내었다. OPC18-01 밴드는 시리아 그룹에 특이 밴드였으며 다른 나라 집단에서는 발견되지 않았다. 이런 7개 특이 마크(SCAR)를 발견하였다. 비록 홍화의 분석한 개체 수가 적고 각 나라의 대표성을 의미하지 않지만 본 연구 결과 지중해의 지역(모로코, 시리아, 터키)이 인도를 제외한 다른 지역보다 변이가 높았다. 단순히 RAPD만으로 단정하기 어렵지만 홍화의 기원 센터의 후보군으로 지중해 연안으로 추정된다. 인도 역시 홍화의 2차 센터의 후보군이다. RAPD 마커는 홍화의 자연 집단을 분류하는데 효과적이었다. Carthamus tinctorius L. (Compositae) is an herb primarily distributed throughout in the world. The species is regarded as ecologically important in the world. Safflower was used for medicines, as well as making red (carthamin) and yellow dyes. We have used the RAPD technique to investigate the phylogenetic relationships and genetic diversity of C. tinctorius. We obtained 123 bands from all the 26 cultivars. The average number of bands was 9.5 per primer. The genetic diversity of safflower is found among cultivars and there is a high among-cultivar differentiation. The OPC18-01 band is the specific marker for Syria cultivar, whereas no products were detected in individuals from other country cultivars. We found seven phenetic bands for determining the specific marker of cultivars with SCAR markers. Though the number of individuals sampled for analysis was small and probably not fully representative of the total available diversity in C. tinctorius, this study demonstrates that the regions (Morocco, Syria, and Turkey) of the Mediterranean Sea were more variable than other regions with the exception of India. In this result, although only simple result of RAPD is difficult to assert the center of species diversity of C. tinctorius, the regions of the Mediterranean Sea may be the most probable candidate for the origin of safflower. India was also the candidate of the center or secondary center of species diversity of C. tinctorius. RAPD markers were effective in classifying cultivar levels of safflower.

We performed a survey for flavivirus infection and distribution of Aedes albopictus that known as Zika and Dengue virus vector using black–light trap and BG-sentinel trap around urban area in Korea. Mosquitoes were collected in 27 cities during March to November (twice a month) year 2016. Total numbers of mosquitoes collected 102,102 including 19 species 8 genera during collecting period. Total 21,467 Ae. albopictus was collected that 20,961(24.3%) by BG-sentinel trap and 506 (3.2%) by Black-light trap in urban area. Trap index(trap/night) of Ae. albopictus was showed highest in Hamyang (TI:992.3) and lowest in Taebaek (TI:0.3) there was only collected by Black-light trap. A total of 894 pools from all collecting Ae. albopictus were performed a Flavivirus detection. Flavivirus was not detected during study period. This study may provide basic information for surveillance of imported diseases (include Zika virus) and vectors in Korea.
