        Protective Effects of Portulaca oleracea L. Extract against Matrix Metalloproteinase Production and Reactive Oxygen Species Generation Induced by Ultraviolet B Radiation in Human Keratinocytes

        쇠비름(Portulaca oleracea.L)은 쇠비름과에 속하는 한해살이풀로서 리놀렌산과 같은 불포화지방산, 페놀성 화합물, 플라보노이드, 비타민 C, 미네랄 함량이 높은 것으로 보고되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 쇠비름 추출물을 이용하여 UVB를 조사한 인간각질형성세포에서 광노화 억제능을 확인하였다. Matrix metalloproteinases는 세포의 기질을 분해하는 효소로 MMP-1는 collagenase, MMP-2와 MMP-9는 gelatinases로 피부 진피층을 구성하는 type Ⅰ collagen을 분해시키는데 영향을 미친다. UVB를 조사한 인간각질형성세포에서 쇠비름 추출물을 처리했을 때 MMP-1, -2, -9의 발현이 감소하였으며, type Ⅰ procollagen의 발현은 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 쇠비름 추출물을 처리한 군에서 UV에 의한 ROS 생성이 감소하였는데 이는 Nrf-2의 활성화를 통한 항산화 인자 SOD-1과 OH-1의 발현 증가로 인해 세포내 ROS 생성이 감소한 것으로 사료된다. 따라서 본 연구 결과를 통해 쇠비름 추출물이 UVB를 조사한 인간각질형성세포에서 MMP 인자 및 항산화 인자의 발현 조절을 통해 광노화로부터의 세포 보호능을 가지는 것을 확인하였으며 나아가 화장품 소재로서의 개발 가능성을 확인하였다. Portulaca oleracea L. is an edible plant widely consumed in daily diet throughout Europe, Asia and America. In this study, protective effects of P. oleracea L. extracts against oxidative stress and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity induced by ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation were investigated using HaCaT immortal human keratinocytes. In this context, the mRNA and protein productions of MMPs (MMP-1, -2, and -9) and type I procollagen, which are major markers of photoaging induced by UVB radiation in HaCaT keratinocytes, were evaluated. Furthermore, UVB-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and mRNA and protein expression levels of superoxide dismutase-1 (SOD-1), oxygenase-1 (OH-1), and nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor-2 (Nrf-2), all of which are associated with the antioxidant balance, were investigated. As shown by the results, UVB radiation induced ROS formation and led to increased production of MMPs and decreased collagen production in human keratinocytes, which resulted in skin photoaging or photodamage. The treatment with P. oleracea L. extracts downregulated MMP (MMP-1, -2, and -9) production and upregulated type I procollagen expression in UVB-induced HaCaT cells. Furthermore, treatment with the extracts decreased UVB-induced ROS generation and increased the expression of antioxidant enzymes, such as SOD-1 and OH-1, through the Nrf-2 pathway. Taken together, these results suggest that P. oleracea L. extracts could be a potential cosmeceutical agent for the prevention of skin photoaging or photodamage.

Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 244-254, 1999.-Obesity can be defined as a metabolic disease due to an increased state of fat tissues caused by an imbalance of calorie intake and use. Recently, in Korea by improvement and westernization of food intake, along with decrease in exercise activities, the prevalence of obesity has increased greatly. Our objectives were to study stability and effects of decrease in body fat by administering red ginseng compound preparation (known to have body fat decreasing effects in laboratory animals) to obesity patients on low calorie diets. Changes in weight and body fat were measured while carrying out calorie-restricted diets on patients for 4 weeks, then administering red ginseng compound preparation for another 4 weeks. The patients were 20 people whose BMI were 25kg/㎡ or over and whose percent body fat was also 30% or over when tested by bioelectrical conductivity. 1. Changes in weight were from 70.04kg(base line) to 67.43kg(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 2. In similar sense, BMI decreased from 27.12kg/㎡(base line) to 26.56kg/㎡(after dieting), and further to 26.01kg/㎡ (after taking red ginseng compound preparation). The BMI seemed to decrease significantly compared to the baseline after the use of red ginseng compound. 3. Waist hip ratio was changed from 0.8858(base line) to 0.8728, but it was statistically insignificant. 4. The percent body fat was 35,16%(base line), 33.87%(after dieting), and 31.68%(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 5. Complete blood cell count and blood chemisrty remained unaffected by the administration. 6. In concern to endocrinologic studies, T3 decreased from 118.7 to 98.2ng/dL, and T4 increased from 8.8 to 9.2㎕/ dL. Epinephrine showed a tendency to decreased from 0.27 to 0.25 ng/mL, and norepinephrine increased from 0.39 to 0.44ng/mL. 7. Leptin was not changed. 8. Some patients complained adverse effects; constipation(5 patients, may be due to diet therapy), fatigue (2 patients), pruritus(2 patients), flushing(s patients), dizziness(3 patients) and epigastric discomfort(2 patients). However their symptoms were mild, so medication did not stopped. In conclusion, loss of weight without significant side effects was observed during low calorie diet and red ginseng compound preparation administration. This is thought to be in relation to sympathetic nerve system rather than adrenal gland. Also, further long0term studies should be required, since the observed results were based on short-term changes in weight.

        Symptom development of pear abnormal leaf spot was highest at the day/night temperature regimes of 23/18℃, and reduced remarkably at the higher and lower temperature regimes as 28/23℃ and 18/13℃. When the pear leaves were bagged or wrapped with various covering materials, little or no symptoms were developed. This was considered to be due to the masking effect of the symptom development induced by high temperatures as up to 46.8℃ after leaf covering. Chemical properties of soil samples from diseased and healthy trees did not show a consisent trend except phosphate whose content was higher in the soil from diseased trees. Simptom development was delayed when moisture levels in soil was over on below the optimum conditron, although the final disease severity did not differ greatly.

The study also analyzed the practicalities and outcome of the site features and developed a picture of how hotels adopt their web sites and which function work best. In brief, the homepage of hotel provides not only just simple information about the property but also easy access to various information the user need indeed.

        The Convention Industry came to have footlights as a high supplement industry owing to the expansion of international cooperation and mutual interchange. The demands of the convention Industry is upsurging and the scale of it is enlarged. Now many countries focus on the convention as one of the chief industries. Because of the tendency of globalization, Convention(MICE : Meetings, Incentive Travels, Conventions, Expositions) Industry has high priority among many Industries as a main income source by entertaining foreign tourists. The purpose of this article is to establish a theory for Food & Beverage Facilities of Convention Center, and to conceptualize the efficient operation of convention F&B facilities. Through the critical overview of the related literature the overall concept, kind of considerations of International convention industry studies were delineated. This study is composed of five parts; Ⅰ. Introduction to the purpose and method of this study Ⅱ. The change environment of convention industry in Korea Ⅲ. Framework of the theory Ⅳ. The efficient operation for F&B Facilities of Convention Center Ⅴ. Conclusions The author hopes advancements of this study, and utilization of study results to the empirical study.

        STS304와 S15C 이종마찰압접부의 접합계면 응력해석

        Friction welding has many merits such as energy efficiency, simple processing, etc. but it is difficult to obtain good welding at the welded interfaces and heat affected zone. It is discovered that stress singularity exists at the interfaces and heat affected zone. The computer program based on boundary element method is utilized in this study. A mathematical model is implemented based on results from several experiments performed at and around the welded interfaces and heat affected zone of disimilar metal under static and dynamic loadings. This study is to investigate the characteristics of the deformation and fracture behavior around interfaces for friction welded materials under static tensile load. Also, the stress distribution at the tip of crack is analyzed by using BEM based on Kelvin's solution of 2-dimensional binding zone. The results of BEM are identical with those in case of considering interfaces of both heat affected zone. Also, stress singularity at the tip of interfaces appears when the elastic modulus ration is 1.07.

      • 矮性사과나무의 粗皮症狀 發現要因에 關한 硏究 : 粗皮症狀 發現樹의 無機養分 및 炭水化物 含量 Mineral and Starch Contents of Dwarf Apple Trees with Rough Barks

        본 연구는 粗皮症狀의 原因을 究明함에 있어스는 樹體內 無機成分과 炭水化勿이 조피증상과 어떤 關聯이 있는가를 보기 위하여 粗皮症狀 發現樹의 各部位別 無機成分과 炭水化勿의 含量을 健全樹와 比較하여 調査하였던 바 그 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1. 葉, 新梢, 主幹樹皮의 無機成分 含量에 있어 Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, Zn, B, C 成分들이 모두 粗皮發現樹와 健全樹間에 뚜fut한 差異를 볼 수 없으며 健全 果樹園에서의 후지와 쓰가루 品種간에도 차이를 認定할 수 없었다. 2. 뿌리의 無機成分 含量은 대부분 健全樹와 粗皮發現樹간에 差異가 없었으나 Ca 含量은 被害樹가 健全樹보다 낮은 傾向이었고 Fe, Zn의 含量은 粗皮發現樹가 有意하게 낮았다. 3. 主幹樹皮를 內樹皮와 外樹皮로 區分하여 無機成分 含量을 分析해 본 結果, Ca를 除外한 Mg, Mn, Fe, Zn, B는 外樹皮의 含量이 더 높았으며 모든 無機成分이 粗皮 發現樹의 內皮樹에서 含量이 낮았다. 特히 후지 品種의 內樹皮에서 Zn 含量은 粗皮 發現樹에서 高度로 有意하게 낮았다. 4. 粗皮症狀 發現樹에서 뿌리의 炭水化勿 含量이 正常樹에 비하여 全生育期間에 걸쳐서 全般的으로 낮았다. 그러나 品種간 比較에서는 후지 品種이 쓰기루 品種보다 높았다. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of mineral and starch contents of the trees on the rough bark disorder in the dwarf apple trees. The sympton of the disorder may be similar to that of apple measles induced by manganese toxicity or boron deficiency. But this symptom develops on the stem bark, whereas Mn toxicity and B deficiency occur from one and two year-old twigs. The obtained results were summarized as follows: 1. Mineral contents such as Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, B, Zn and Cu in the leaf, shoot and trunk bark showed little difference between the rough-bark and a normal tree. 2. Ca content in root of disordered 'Fuji' tree was significantly lower than that of normal trees. 3. Contents of Mg, Mn, Fe, b and Zn with the exception of Ca in the outer bark of trunk were higher than those in the inner bakr in a normal tree. Those minerals with the exception of Mn were significantly lower in the inner bark of the disordered tree, particularly Zn content was highly significantly lower as compared with that in the inner bark of a normal tree. 4. Starch and glucose contents in the stem bark and roots of the disordered tree were lower than in the normal tree throughout the year. However, 'Fuji' showed higher starch concentration than 'Tsugaru'.

      • MOCVD법에 의한 광 통신용 1.55㎛ PBH-DFB 레이저 다이오드 제작

        DC-PBHDFB LD operating at 1.55㎛ were fabricated by 3-step MOCVD process. The first-order grating with 2370Å period and 700Å etching depth was formed by holographic lithography and wet etching. Fabricated DCPBH-DFB LD operates in single longitudinal mode with side-mode suppression of more than 35dB and the lasing wavelength of 1.547㎛ at room temperature and 5mW, and the lasing threshold current and the slope efficiency were 15.6mA and 0.15mW/mA, respectively. The characteristic temperature of threshold current(To) and the temperature dependence of the lasing wavelength were obtained 57.3K and 1.0Å/℃ from the DFB laser between 20℃ and 70℃, respectively.

        This study on the commercial sports managers' their official satisfactions. For the purpose of that, we shall study the relations of the personal characters and their identities and the relations of their organization satisfactions and their identities targeting 135 managers engaged in sports centers so that we provide the managers with basic datum for their management of a change of occupation. Moreover they can increase the satisfaction of the customers using the sports centers, and the managers can also become higher their official satisfaction and their engagement identities. After verifying one-way ANOVA and post-test using SPSS 10.0version, we can reach a conclusion below listed. A. The relations between personal characters and their organization identities 1. There is no difference between the level of the manager's organization identity and their sex. 2. There is no differences between the level of the manager's organization identity and their age. 3. There is some differences between the level of the manager's organization identity and their salary. 4. There is some differences between the level of the manager's organization identity and their duties. 5. There is no difference between the level of the manager's organization identity and scholarship. 6. There is some differences between the level of the manager's organization identity and their period of service in the position B. The relations between their official satisfaction and their organization satisfaction. A constant is 1.376 and a value conforming to the official satisfaction is 0.725. So we can come to a conclusion because each presumed value is smaller than significance level 0.05
