<P>In the course of searching for bioactive secondary metabolites from marine fungi, TMC-256C1 was isolated from an ethyl acetate extract of the marine-derived fungus <I>Aspergillus</I> sp. SF6354. TMC-256C1 displayed anti-neuroinflammatory effect in BV2 microglial cells induced by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) as well as neuroprotective effect against glutamate-stimulated neurotoxicity in mouse hippocampal HT22 cells. TMC-256C1 was shown to develop a cellular resistance to oxidative damage caused by glutamate-induced cytotoxicity and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in HT22 cells, and suppress the inflammation process in LPS-stimulated BV2 cells. Furthermore, the neuroprotective and anti-neuroinflammatory activities of TMC-256C1 were associated with upregulated expression of heme oxygenase (HO)-1 and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in HT22 and BV2 cells. We also found that TMC-256C1 activated p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt signaling pathways in HT22 and BV2 cells. These results demonstrated that TMC-256C1 activates HO-1 protein expression, probably by increasing nuclear Nrf2 levels via the activation of the p38 MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathways.</P>

지방과 도시인의 도로교통 이용실태 및 태도 조사 결과를 보고하였다. 지방을 대표하는 지역으로 경상남도 거창읍을, 그리고 도시는 서울특별시 강남구 대치동을 선정하였고, 각 지역에서 800명(400 부부쌍)의 무선표본을 대상으로 질문지로 조사하였다. 조사내용을 출퇴근 길의 교통수단이용, 외출시의 교통수단이용, 자가용의 이용및 소유실태, 운전면허 소지 및 취득실태, 교통사고경험, 대중교통수단에 대한 평가 및 관련 태도 등이었다. 조사결과, 도시와 지방간의 현재의 교통수단 이용에서의 차이를 파악할 수 있었을 뿐 아니라, 후속연구에서 교통수단이용의 변화를 평가할 수 있는 기저선이 마련되었다. Two representative samples of married couples. one(n=400 couples) from Dae-Chi Dong in Seoul and another(n=400 couples) from the town of Ku-Ch'ang in South Kyung-sang Province were studied through a questionnaire. The questionnaire dealt with (1)transportation uses in commuting to work (2)transportation uses on weekends. (3)types of automobiles owned and the uses to which they are put. (4)statistics related to obtaining and possessing driver licenses. (5)experience of traffic accidents, and (6)attitudes regarding the public trasportations and policies. The study as designed to provide a baseline for future studies on the transportation statistics as well as gauging the urban-rural difference in automobile culture.

We have determined the contents of monosaccharides in the hydrolysates of some yogurt and orange juice products by derivatizing monosaccharides with p-aminobenzoic acid ethyl ester (ABEE). The separation of the ABEE-derivatized monosaccharides was efficiently carried out by HPLC using a microcolumn packed with the Alltima $C_{18}$ stationary phase. The concentrations of monosaccharides were determined based on the measured peak area/height counts. ABEE derivatization of fructose and its detection have never been successfully carried out before this work. In this study, two peaks were observed in a fixed ratio for ABEE-fructose, and the ratio was maintained over a wide range of fructose concentration. In order to prove the validity of the above method, we compared the concentrations of glucose, galactose and fructose determined by ABEE derivatization and UVD (ultraviolet detector) chromatography with those determined by RID (refractive index detector) chromatography without derivatization. The determined concentrations of monosaccharides obtained from the two chromatographic methods were found close to each other within acceptable error ranges.

사회에서 다양한 디지털 도어락 관련 범죄들이 꾸준히 늘어나면서 소비자들은 보안성이 강화된 도어락을 요구하고 있다. 이에 따라 도어락 시장도 보안성을 강화한 스마트 도어락을 개발하는 데 집중하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 사람이 보안을 위해 사용하는 OTP(One-Time-Password) 라는 검증된 암호시스템을 사용하여 비밀번호의 노출, 비밀번호의 분실의 위험이 없는 보안성과 편의성을 강화한 OTP 스마트 도어락 모듈을 구현하였다.

표고는 우리나라를 포함한 동북아시아 전역에서 오랫동안 식용으로 애용되고 있는 대중적 버섯으로 맛과 향이 독특하다. 또한 약리적인 효능이 과학적으로 밝혀졌다. 표고는 원목재배와 톱밥재배에 의해 생산되며 원목재배 기간은 4~5년인데 반해 톱밥재배는 6개월로 재배기간이 짧아 원목재배에서 톱밥재배로 빠르게 전환되고 있다. 특히 산조 701호는 중고온성 품종으로 우리나라의 표고 톱밥재배 대표적인 여름철 품종으로 재배임가에 널리 알려져 있으며, 임가 소득에 기여하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 표고 톱밥재배 품종 중에서 산조 701호의 육성내력과 다양한 실증시험, 국산품종 보급확대 등 우리나라 표고산업 발전에 기여한 성과를 기술하였다. The oak mushroom (Lentinula edodes) is a popular edible mushroom that has long been cultivated and eaten throughout Northeast Asia (including Korea). Its taste and flavor are unique. Oak mushrooms are cultivated on logs and in sawdust. The cultivation period on logs is 4-5 years, while the cultivation period in sawdust is 6 months, which is rapidly driving a shift from log to sawdust based cultivation. In particular, the Sanjo 701ho cultivar of L. edodes is a mid-range to high-temperature variety that is widely known for its suitability for summer cultivation on sawdust in Korea. This study summarizes new developments and achievements in the oak mushroom industry in Korea, and details the cultivation history of Sanjo 701ho, its culturing characteristics, various demonstration tests, and the expansion of domestic varieties.

Objective : We studied whether frontal skull base fracture has an impact on the occurrence and recovery of anosmia and/or ageusia following frontal traumatic brain injury (TBI). Methods : Between May 2003 and April 2005, 102 consecutive patients who had hemorrhage or contusion on the frontal lobe base were conservatively treated. Relevant clinical and radiographic data were collected, and assessment of impaired smell and taste sensation were also surveyed up to at least 12 months post-injury. Results : Among 102 patients, anosmia was noted in 22 (21.6%), of whom 10 had ageusia at a mean 4.4 days after trauma. Bilateral frontal lobe injuries were noted in 20 of 22 patients with anosmia and in all 10 patients with ageusia. Frontal skull base fracture was noted in 41 patients, of whom 9 (21.4%) had anosmia and 4 (9.5%) had ageusia. There was no statistical difference in the occurrence of anosmia and ageusia between patients with or without fracture. Of the 22 patients with anosmia, recovery from anosmia occurred in nine (40.9%) at the interval of 6 to 24 months after trauma, of whom six had frontal skull base fracture and three were not associated with fracture. Recovery of anosmia was significantly higher in patients without fracture than those with fracture (p<0.05). Recovery from ageusia occurred in only two of 10 patients at the interval of 18 to 20 months after trauma and was not eminent in patients without fracture. Conclusion : One should be alert and seek possibile occurrence of the anosmia and/or ageusia following frontal TBI. It is suggested that recovery is quite less likely if such patients have fractures on the frontal base, and these patients should wait for at least 6 to 18 months to anticipate such recovery if there is no injury to the central olfactory structures.

A new chiral derivatization agent with sugar moiety, 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-${\beta}$-D-galactopyranosyl isothiocyanate (GATC) was synthesized. Several ${\beta}-blockers$ were investigated for the possible separation of the enantiomers by reversed-phase HPLC after derivatization with this new chiral derivatization agent (GATC). GATC was reacted readily with ${\beta}-blockers$ at room temperature and the reaction mixture could directly be injected into the HPLC system. The corresponding diastereomers were well resolved on an ODS column with acetonitrile-ammonium acetate buffer as a mobile phase and monitored at UV 254 nm. The optimization of the derivatization procedure (concentration of GATC, reaction temperature and time) and HPLC conditions (pH and ionic strength of mobile phase) were investigated and compared with GITC.
