Taking Gender Seriously : Feminization of Nonstandard Work in Korea and Japan
LEE, Joohee Ewha Womans University Press 2004 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.10 No.1
This paper analyzes the nature and challenges of growing nonstandard employment in Korea and Japan through the lens of gender. Among the OECD countries, Korea and Japan represent the worst cases of gender gaps in employment, and have very high rates of female workers in nonstandard employment. Based on an analytical framework, whereby national differences in the gendered nature of nonstandard work can be investigated, this study compares feminization of nonstandard work in Korea and Japan and makes the following three conclusions of practical importance. First, social policies designed to help workers to balance work and family must be accompanied by legislation that regulates nonstandard work. Second, a coordinated industrial relations' system is necessary to properly implement legislative efforts. Finally, the trade union movements in both Korea and Japan must improve their representative functions for women workers.
Thermodynamics of native point defects in α-Fe2O3: an <i>ab initio</i> study
Lee, Joohee,Han, Seungwu The Royal Society of Chemistry 2013 Physical chemistry chemical physics Vol.15 No.43
<P>The native point defects in Fe2O3 are theoretically investigated using <I>ab initio</I> methods based on the GGA + <I>U</I> formalism. We consider vacancies and interstitials of Fe and O atoms as well as the electron polaron as FeII defects at the host FeIII site. The formation energies and charge transition levels are computed for each defect type with careful elimination of size effects of the supercell. It is found that the Fe interstitial and vacancy form donor and acceptor levels close to band edges, respectively, thereby allowing for charge carriers at room temperature. We determine the oxygen deficiency under high-temperature equilibrium conditions and find an excellent agreement with experiment. In the quenched condition, it is found that the Fermi level is pinned at ∼0.5 eV below the conduction band minimum, which may limit the performance of Fe2O3 as a photoanode in solar water-splitting cells. Furthermore, the oxygen vacancy is mostly neutral and the Fe interstitial is responsible for electron carriers.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Thermodynamics and nature of native point defects in α-Fe2O3 were theoretically investigated using <I>ab initio</I> methods. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c3cp53311e'> </P>

<P>Here we report an unconventional approach for the single-step synthesis of monolithically integrated electronic devices based on multidimensional carbon structures. Integrated arrays of field-effect transistors and sensors composed of carbon nanotube channels and graphitic electrodes and interconnects were formed directly from the synthesis. These fully integrated, all-carbon devices are highly flexible and can be transferred onto both planar and nonplanar substrates, including papers, clothes, and fingernails. Furthermore, the sensor network can be interfaced with inherent life forms in nature for monitoring environmental conditions. Examples of significant applications are the integration of the devices to live plants or insects for real-time, wireless sensing of toxic gases.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/nalefd/2014/nalefd.2014.14.issue-5/nl500513n/production/images/medium/nl-2014-00513n_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/nl500513n'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Background: The aim of this study is to explore whether high school students’ adherence to physical distancing was associated with health beliefs, social norms, and psychological factors during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: Overall, 300 high school students participated in this anonymous online survey conducted from October 18–24, 2021. The survey included rating scales such as attitude toward physical distancing during the pandemic, Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-6 items (SAVE-6), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 items, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Connor Davidson Resilience Scale 2-items. Results: The results revealed that perceived susceptibility or severity (β = −0.13, P = 0.038), perceived benefit (β = 0.32, P < 0.001), descriptive social norms (β = 0.10, P = 0.041), social injunctive norms (β = 0.19, P < 0.001), and SAVE-6 (β = 0.24, P < 0.001) predicted students’ adherence to physical distancing (adjusted R2 = 0.42, F = 19.2, P < 0.001). Social injunctive norms and personal injunctive norms directly influenced adherence to physical distancing. Viral anxiety, measured by SAVE-6, mediated the association between social injunctive norms and adherence to physical distancing, and perceived benefits mediated the relationship between personal injunctive norms and adherence to physical distancing. The influence of perceived susceptibility or severity on adherence to physical distancing was entirely mediated by perceived benefits or viral anxiety. Conclusion: Explaining the rationale or benefits of physical distancing may be important in increasing adherence to physical distancing among high school students.

Gelatinous transformation of bone marrow is characterized by hypoplasia of fat cells with focal loss of hematopoietic cells and deposition of extracellular gelatinous substances. It is known to be associated with devastating underlying diseases that starve bone marrow. Here, we present a case of a patient whose magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings of vertebral column were interpreted as metastasis or hematologic malignancy, however, the final diagnosis revealed a gelatinous transformation of bone marrow. This is the first report of gelatinous transformation of bone marrow without evidence of underlying devastating disease.
The reliability of dual rehabilitative ultrasound imaging measurements for muscle co-activation
( Joohee Hahn ),( Hyun-geun Ha ),( Hwang-jae Lee ),( Seungyeop Lim ),( Wan-hee Lee ) 물리치료재활과학회 2017 Physical therapy rehabilitation science Vol.6 No.3
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of the dual rehabilitative ultrasound imaging (D-RUSI) when simultaneously measuring muscle thickness changes at rest and during co-contraction of the biceps brachii (BB) and triceps brachii (TB). Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: This study included 36 healthy participants (23 men, 13 women). The participants sat on a chair in a comfortable position with a cushion placed under their elbow to maintain a 90-degree elbow flexion angle. The muscle thickness of the biceps brachii and triceps brachii was measured twice using the D-RUSI by two examiners during resting and co-contraction states. One week later, the same procedure was performed once again. Results: The intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) for intra-rater reliability ranged from 0.887 to 0.989 and the confidence interval was within an acceptable range of 0.778 to 0.994. The standard error of measurement (SEM) values ranged from 0.303 to 0.866 and the minimal detectable change (MDC) values ranged from 0.84 to 2.40. The ICCs for inter-rater reliability ranged from 0.758 to 0.925. The SEM values ranged from 0.702 to 1.486 and the MDC values ranged from 1.95 to 4.12. Conclusions: The use of the D-RUSI of the BB muscle had a very good intra-rater reliability and very good inter-rater reliability at the resting state, and a, good inter-rater reliability at the co-activation state. ICC values showed very good intra-reliability and inter-reliability for the TB muscle. the D-RUSI is a useful tool for simultaneously measuring the thickness of two muscles when the BB is an agonist and the TB is an antagonist during co-activation of the upper arm.

( Joohee Lee ),( Mi-young Lee ),( Yeni Kim ),( Jae-yoon Shim ),( Hye-sung Won ),( Pil-ryang Lee ),( Ahm Kim ) 대한산부인과학회 2016 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.102 No.-
The ex utero intrapartum treatment (EXIT) procedure was introduced to reduce fetal hypoxic damage while establishing an airway in fetuses with upper and lower airway obstruction. Delivery of the fetal head and shoulders while maintaining the uteroplacental circulation offers adequate time to secure the airway while preventing fetal hypoxia. Here, we report two cases of fetal airway obstruction that were successfully managed using the EXIT procedure, with extensive preoperative planning and under a professional multidisciplinary team. Case 1: A 32-year-old woman was referred to our institution at 20 weeks of gestation with a diagnosis of a fetal neck mass. Ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings revealed a 8.5cm-sized huge lymphangioma with suspected upper airway compression. Delivery was accomplished by a cesarean section with the EXIT procedure at 38.3 weeks of gestation. The fetus was endotracheally intubated while maintaining uteroplacental circulation. The baby is now 18 months old and does not show any signs of developmental or cognitive delay. Case 2: A 31-year-old woman was referred to our institution at 21 weeks of gestation with suspected congenital high airway obstruction syndrome (CHAOS). Ultrasonography revealed symmetrically enlarged, hyperechoic, and homogeneous lungs with an inverted diaphragm, anteriorly displaced heart, and polyhydramnios, all of which were suggestive of CHAOS. The baby was delivered via the EXIT procedure at 38 weeks of gestation, and a tracheostomy was performed. The baby is now five months old and is developing normally.
