This study is aiming at improving the Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map (ECVAM) of National Land in Korea. The ECVAM items are composed of legal and environmental/ecological assessments. A popular method applied to ECVAM is an overlay environmental/ecological assessment items. The purpose of this study is to offer complementary items of the ECVAM by examining assessment items. In this study we assessed the ECVAM by five methods. Method 1 is Grade 1 areas of each administrative district; Method 2 is comparing overlapped areas of each assessment items Grade 1, 2 and permission of each assessment items duplication; Method 3 is Grade 1, 2 areas by only singular assessment items; Method 4 is Grade 1 areas only of Method 2; and Method 5 is Grade 2 areas only of Method 2. Method 1 showed Seoul and other metropolitan cities revealed a large proportion of Grade I regions by the legal assessment items. Gang won-Do, showed a large proportion of Grade I regions by the environmental/ecological assessment item. Method 2 showed 93.4 % of diameter Grade II (standard for stability); forest diameter item accounted for 99.9 % by Method 3, Method 4 showed 95.7 % of forest diameter, and forest density accounted for 66.4 % by Method 5. This study contributes to reduce the complexity in the process of manufacturing ECVAM of National Land, and to raise the flexibility in the process of managing and updating this map.

<P>In this study, first, a circuit analog (CA) absorber consisting of a periodic pattern resistive sheet, glass-fiber/epoxy composite as a spacer, and carbon fabric composite was applied to the leading edge of a wing-shaped structure to reduce the echo radar cross section (RCS). This CA absorber was designed in a flat-plate shape through a parametric study that was performed to optimize the device in the X-band (8.2-12.4 GHz). The reflection loss of the fabricated flat-plate CA absorber was measured with an X-band free-space measurement system. The measured reflection loss was -49.5 dB at 10.15 GHz and the -10 dB bandwidth was about 4.2 GHz. When the CA absorber was applied to the leading edge, the measured echo RCS level showed a 15 dB reduction near 10 GHz and a 10 dB reduction in most of the X-band in both polarizations. Surface discontinuity due to gaps between the leading edge and the wing-box was discussed. From the analysis results, it can be seen that the permittivity of the glass-fiber/epoxy composite material used in the CA absorber was in the proper range for application to a wing-shaped structure.</P>

In the Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique, a monolayer on the water surface is transferred on to a substrate, which is raised and dipped through the surface, and one can obtain multilayers in which constituent molecules periodically are arranged in layer. The LB technique has attracted considerable interest in the fabrication of electrical and electronic device, e.g.. Many researchers have investigated the electrical properties of monolayer and multilayer films. Dendrimers represent a new class of synthetic macromolecules by a regularly branched treelike structure. Multiple branching yields a large number of chain ends, which distinguishes dendrimers from conventional starlike polymers and microgels. Azobenzene dendrimer is one of the dendritic macromolecules that includes the azo-group which exhibits a photochromic character. Due to the presence of the charge transfer part, the azo-group, and having a rod-shaped structure, these compounds are expected to have the potential interest in electronics and ptoelectronics, especially in nonlinear optics. In the present paper, we give a pressure stimulation into organic thin films and detect the induced displacement current.

Background/Aims: Chronic erosive gastritis (CEG) is a type of chromic inflammation of the gastric mucosa, characterized by discrete, central umbilication surrounded by the slight protrusion. Here, we identified the molecular mediators of development of CEG and its relation with induction of proinflammatory cytokine in gastric cells. Methods: SHP induction was found in CEG lesion H. pylori CagA increased the SHP gene expression at the transcriptional level through activation of transcription factor c-Jun. The DNA-binding of c-Jun at SHP cognate promoter was induced by CagA. CagA also enhanced the protein interaction of NF-α B and SHP, resulting in an increase of c-Jun expression and subsequently further producing the inflammatory cytokine. TNF α. Results: We found that the positive feedback expression and cascade transactivation of SHP and c-Jun by CagA increased the inflammatory cytokine production in gastric cells. Conclusions: These results suggest that SHP induction might play a critical role in mediating the induction of gastritis and provide pre-clue for development of gastric cellular malformation from gastritis.

In this study, we characterized sporadically occurring sclerotium rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii in Chinese chive (Allium tuberosum Roth.) in farm fields in Sacheon, Korea. The initial symptom of the disease was water-soaked, which progressed to rotting, wilting, blighting, and eventually death. Further, mycelial mats spread over the lesions near the soil line, and sclerotia formed on the scaly stem and leaves. The sclerotia were globoid, 1~3 mm, and white to brown. The optimum temperature for growth and sclerotia formation on potato dextrose agar (PDA) was 30oC. The diameter of the hypae ranged from 4 to 8 μm. Clamp connection was observed on PDA medium after 5 days of incubation. Based on the mycological characteristics, internal transcribed spacer sequence analysis, and pathogenicity test, the causal agent was identified as Sclerotium rolfsii Saccardo. This is the first report of sclerotium rot in Chinese chive caused by S. rolfsii in Korea.
