• A Comparison of Parallel Multipliers with Neuron MOS and CMOS Technologies

1996 APCCAS:Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits And Sys Vol.1 No.1

We intend to obtain a fast and high-density logic circuit combining neuron MOS transistors (neuMOS), that was developed in Tohoku university, into a binary logic circuit. In this paper, we focus on basic arithmetic functional circuits, a full-adder and a multiplier, and make a comparison of the area and delay of the neuMOS circuits with conventional CMOS logic circuits. The results of physical design and SPICE simulation show that the area of a neuMOS multiplier with full-adders decreases to about 65% of the area of CMOS, and the delay of a neuMOS multiplier with (7,3) parallel counters decreases to about 70% of the delay of CMOS.

      • Measurement of the τ lepton polarization and R(D*) in the decay B¯→D*τ−ν¯τ with one-prong hadronic τ decays at Belle

        Hirose, S.,Iijima, T.,Adachi, I.,Adamczyk, K.,Aihara, H.,Al Said, S.,Asner, D. M.,Atmacan, H.,Aushev, T.,Ayad, R.,Aziz, T.,Babu, V.,Badhrees, I.,Bakich, A. M.,Bansal, V.,Berger, M.,Bhardwaj, V.,Bhuyan American Physical Society 2018 Physical Review D Vol.97 No.1

With the full data sample of 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB electron-positron collider, the decay (B) over bar -> D+ tau(-)(nu) over bar (tau) is studied with the hadronic tau decays tau(-) -> pi(-)nu(tau) and tau(-) -> rho(-)nu(tau). The tau polarization P-tau(D*) in two-body hadronic tau decays is measured, as well as the ratio of the branching fractions R(D*) = B((B) over bar -> D*tau(-) (nu) over bar (tau))/B((B) over bar -> D*l(-) (nu) over bar (l),where l(-) denotes an electron or a muon. Our results, P-tau (D*) = - 0.38 +/- 0.51(stat)(+0.21)(-0.16) (syst) and R(D*) = 0.270 +/- 0.035(stat)(+0.028)(-0.025)(syst), are consistent with the theoretical predictions of the standard model. The polarization values of P-tau(D*) > +0.5 are excluded at the 90% confidence level.

      • Study of Elastic Moduli of Sintered Low Alloy Steels by Acoustic Pulse Method

Vol.2006 No.1

The influence of porosity (P) on Young's modulus (E) and Poisson's ratio of sintered steels produced from four types of steel powders was investigated. The values of E and depend mainly on the value of P, and those were a little affected by alloying elements. The relationships between E, , and P were described as following equations: and , where subscript 0 means P = 0, and and are empirical constants. These approximate equations showed good agreement with empirical results.

Vol.25 No.-

This paper deals with the recent trends of Korean studies in Japanese universities. It centers upon the academic associations and institutes for Korean studies; also, the major books which have given influence on Korean studies are touched upon. The contents of this paper are as follows: First, in the case of general books on Korea, cultural-anthropologists started Korean studies from the middle 1980's. Their studies were relatively small; however, the role of political scholars, economists and sociologists were important. On the other hand, the studies on North Korea were lower in quality and quantity than those on South Korea. Second, the number of scholars associated with Korean studies was about 800 in 2007. Most of the scholars focused on studies of modern Korea. The universities that have a great amount of scholars related to Korean studies are Tokyo Univ., Kyushyu Univ. and Keio Univ. The interdisciplinary associations are found at Chyosengakkai, which was founded in 1950, and Gendaikannkokuchyosengakkai, which was founded in 2000. The number of universities in Japan which have courses on Korea are 15. Third, as an historical association, Chyosensigenkyuukai was founded in 1959 and Nihonshyokuminchigenkyuukai in 1986. In the field of cultural-anthropology, Kannkokuchyosengenkyuukai was founded in 1999. In linguistics, Chyosengogenkyuukai was founded in 1983 and Chyosengokyouikugenkyuukai was founded in 1988. In literature, there are no academic associations. In the field of political, economic and social science, Gendaikannkokukakkai is the center of Korean studies. The studies on South Korea go into greater depth than those on North Korea.

      • Structural Determination of Oxidation Products of Flavonoids in Alcoholic Aqueous Solution with Reactive Oxygen Species

Hirose, Yuko,Kakita, Mitsuko,Washizu, Toshiyuki,Matsugo, Seiichi Korean Society of Photoscience 2002 Journal of Photosciences Vol.9 No.2

Recently, much attention has been paid to the physiological functions of flavonoids associated with their antioxidant properties. However, there was a lack of information on the molecular mechanism at which flavonoids play the antioxidative role. We have already studied on the oxidation of quercetin with hydrogen peroxide and sodium hypochlorite in alcoholic aqueous solution and determined the oxidation products. Through the structural analysis of the oxidation products, it was clarified that the hydroxyl group at C-3 in the C ring plays the important role in the antioxidative action of quercetin. Successively, rutin and (+)-catechin were oxidized with sodium hypochlorite and their mono- and di-chlorinated derivatives were obtained. These facts indicate that these flavonoids can directly scavenge hypochlorous acid and the active site in this scavenging reaction is not the hydroxyl group at C-3.

      • Suppression of interfacial crack for foam core sandwich panel with crack arrester

        Hirose, Y.,Hojo, M.,Fujiyoshi, A.,Matsubara, G. The Korean Society for Composite Materials 2007 Advanced composite materials Vol.16 No.1

Since delamination often propagates at the interfacial layer between a surface skin and a foam core, a crack arrester is proposed for the suppression of the delamination. The arrester has a semi-cylindrical shape and is arranged in the foam core and is attached to the surface skin. Here, energy release rates and complex stress intensity factors are calculated using finite element analysis. Effects of the arrester size and its elastic moduli on the crack suppressing capability are investigated. Considerable reductions of the energy release rates at the crack tip are achieved as the crack tip approached the leading edge of the crack arrester. Thus, this new concept of a crack arrester may become a promising device to suppress crack initiation and propagation of the foam core sandwich panels.

The Identity of the Second Generation Colonizers: Focused on Female Colonizers

Vol.0 No.27

In this paper, the author discusses the identity of the second generation female colonizers who were born and brought up in Korea under the colonial administration. As colonizers’ children who lived in a livelihood zone formed only by Japanese, these children went to the Japanese primary school in which they received the same education as in the mainland; they lived within strong cultural structures that maintained and nurtured Japanese food, culture and customs. The children lived in an environment thoroughly segregated from Korean society in which they were not encouraged to question the existence of others. In girls’ high schools in Korea, which were more open and freer than those in the mainland of Japan, they were able to receive high-level education, and nurture their self-confidence, which I term ‘colonizers’ disposition’. In everyday life, they lived with Korean household servants as their subordinates, and never doubted their own superior position. Korea was a home for them while they regarded the mainland of Japan as a foreign country. However, the collapse of the Japanese Empire forced these children to return home. After they had returned home they were discriminated against as repatriates, and regarded as alien. They were betrayed by the defeated state, and received no protection from the state even after their return to Japan. Based upon their bitter experience, they began to feel themselves out of place in relation to the ‘Japanese State’ and the ‘Japanese.’ They were accused of harboring a colonizers’ disposition, and a culture of conformism was imposed upon them. Facing this pressure, there were some that tried to completely adapt to the manners of the mainland society while others came to take a critical attitude towards the state by self-critically reflecting on their own colonizers’ experience.
