ON THE GEOMETRY OF RATIONAL BÉZIER CURVES
( Ayşe Yilmaz Ceylan ),( Tunahan Turhan ),( Gözde Özkan Tükel ) 호남수학회 2021 호남수학학술지 Vol.43 No.1
The purpose of this paper is to assign a movable frame to an arbitrary point of a rational Bézier curve on the 2-sphere S2 in Euclidean 3-space R3 to provide a better understanding of the geometry of the curve. Especially, we obtain the formula of geodesic curvature for a quadratic rational Bézier curve that allows a curve to be characterized on the surface. Moreover, we give some important results and relations for the Darboux frame and geodesic curvature of a such curve. Then, in specific case, given characterizations for the quadratic rational Bézier curve are illustrated on a unit 2-sphere.

Purpose: Food allergy (FA) affects the daily lives of children and parents in varying degrees. The Food Allergy Quality of Life Questionnaire-Parent Form (FAQLQ-PF) is a valid and reliable instrument to assess the quality of life (QoL) of children from parents’ perception. The aim of this study was to validate and determine the reliability of the Turkish FAQLQ-PF and to assess QoL in food-allergic children. Methods: Children aged between 0 and 12 years and diagnosed with immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated FA for at least 1 month were enrolled. The English FAQLQ-PF was translated into Turkish according to the World Health Organization guidelines. The Food Allergy Independent Measure and the Turkish Child Health Questionnaire- Parent Form 50 were used for construct validity. Results: One hundred and fifty-seven patients participated. The median age of patients and FA duration were 2.4 years (1.2-5.2 years, interquartile-ranges) and 2 years (0.8-5.1), respectively. Ninety-six (61.1%) patients had anaphylaxis. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and intra-class correlation coefficient for test-retest reliability was good for all age groups of children (< 4, 4-6, and 7-12 years). Patients with either asthma or anaphylaxis had worse scores than others. Total scores of FAQLQ-PF tended to increase with age. Patients aged 7-12 had the highest total scores among all patients (2.2±0.1, 3.0±0.2, and 3.3±0.3 for < 4, 4-6, and 7-12 years, respectively, P < 0.001, P for trend < 0.001). Other factors causing the poor QoL were cow’s milk allergy, sibling allergy, mother’s age over 30 years, mother’s high education level and lower number of persons in household. Conclusions: The Turkish FAQLQ-PF is a valid and reliable scale. FA-related QoL was significantly worse with age. Coexistent asthma, anaphylaxis regardless of its severity, cow’s milk allergy, sibling allergy and the older and educated mothers seem to poorly affect QoL.

Objectives: Mobile health applications that are designed without considering usability criteria can lead to cognitive overload, resulting in the rejection of these apps. To avoid this problem, the user interface of mobile health applications should be evaluatedfor cognitive load. This evaluation can contribute to the improvement of the user interface and help prevent cognitiveoverload for the user. Methods: In this study, we evaluated a mobile personal health records application using the cognitivetask analysis method, specifically the goals, operators, methods, and selection rules (GOMS) approach, along with the relatedupdated GOMS model and gesture-level model techniques. The GOMS method allowed us to determine the steps of the tasksand categorize them as physical or cognitive tasks. We then estimated the completion times of these tasks using the updatedGOMS model and gesture-level model. Results: All 10 identified tasks were split into 398 steps consisting of mental andphysical operators. The time to complete all the tasks was 5.70 minutes and 5.45 minutes according to the updated GOMSmodel and gesture-level model, respectively. Mental operators covered 73% of the total fulfillment time of the tasks accordingto the updated GOMS model and 76% according to the gesture-level model. The inter-rater reliability analysis yielded anaverage of 0.80, indicating good reliability for the evaluation method. Conclusions: The majority of the task execution timescomprised mental operators, suggesting that the cognitive load on users is high. To enhance the application's implementation, the number of mental operators should be reduced.

This work presents a method for the preconcentration of lead using dispersive liquid-liquidmicroextraction. 2,20 Dithiobis (benzothiazole) was used as the chelating agent, and chloroform wasselected as the extraction solvent. Parameters such as: pH, volume of ligand, volume of extractionsolvent and dispersive solvent volume affecting on the extraction efficiency of method has beenevaluated by Plackett–Burman design. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were 4.3 mg L 1and 14.2 mg L 1, respectively. The accuracy of the method was evaluated by analyzing certified referencematerials. Method was applied to the determination of lead in water samples.

This paper reports a presumptive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in a cat. A cat with respiratory disease living with three individuals with coronavirus disease 2019 showed bilateral ground-glass opacities in the lung on X-ray and computed tomography. The clinical swabs were negative for SARS-CoV-2 RNA, but the serum was positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Interstitial pneumonia and prominent type 2 pneumocyte hyperplasia were noted on histopathology. Respiratory tissues were negative for SARS-CoV-2 RNA or antigen, but the cat was positive for feline parvovirus DNA. In conclusion, the respiratory disease and associated pathology in this cat could have been due to exposure to SARS-CoV-2.

<P>A novel nano-cauliflower-shaped lead(II) metal-organic coordination polymer, [Pb(mu-2-pinh)N-3 H2O](n) (1), was synthesized using an ultrasonic method. The nanostructure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermal analysis. The compound was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The coordination compound takes the form of a zig-zag one-dimensional polymer in solid state. The coordination number of the lead(II) ions is six (PbN4O2) with three nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom from two linker organic ligands, as well as one oxygen from coordinated water and one nitrogen atom from terminal coordinated azide anion. It has a stereo-chemically active lone electron pair, and the coordination sphere is hemidirected. The zig-zag 1D chains interact with neighbouring chains through weak interactions, creating a 3D supramolecular metal-organic framework. Lead oxide nanoparticles were obtained by thermolysis of the new nano coordination compound at 180 A degrees C with oleic acid as a surfactant. The morphology and size were further studied using SEM. Natural bond orbital analyses demonstrate the electronic properties of the lead centre and other atoms.</P>

Invariant natural killer T cells (iNKT cells) are innate-like lymphocytes that protect against infection, autoimmune disease and cancer. However, little is known about the epigenetic regulation of iNKT cell development. Here we found that the H3K27me3 histone demethylase UTX was an essential cell-intrinsic factor that controlled an iNKT-cell lineage-specific gene-expression program and epigenetic landscape in a demethylase-activity-dependent manner. UTX-deficient iNKT cells exhibited impaired expression of iNKT cell signature genes due to a decrease in activation-associated H3K4me3 marks and an increase in repressive H3K27me3 marks within the promoters occupied by UTX. We found that JunB regulated iNKT cell development and that the expression of genes that were targets of both JunB and the iNKT cell master transcription factor PLZF was UTX dependent. We identified iNKT cell super-enhancers and demonstrated that UTX-mediated regulation of super-enhancer accessibility was a key mechanism for commitment to the iNKT cell lineage. Our findings reveal how UTX regulates the development of iNKT cells through multiple epigenetic mechanisms.
