<P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>To examine the effects on erectile function of concomitant treatment with an alpha-blocker (tamsulosin) and an antimuscarinic agent (solifenacin) in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS)/benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>Fifty-seven male patients with LUTS/BPH were assessed for the degree of LUTS and erectile function. In group 1 (tamsulosin) and group 2 (tamsulosin and solifenacin), changes in the International Prostate Symptom Score [IPSS: total scores, storage symptoms (ST), voiding symptoms (VD), and quality of life (QoL)], prostate-specific antigen, trans-rectal ultrasonography, urine flowmetry, residual urine, and a 5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) were assessed after a 3-month treatment period. In both groups, it was determined whether treatment was associated with changes in LUTS and erectile function and whether improvement in the IPSS was correlated with the IIEF-5. Comparative analysis was also done to examine the linear relationship between improved IPSS scores and IIEF-5 scores.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>A comparison of the degree of improvement in all the parameters indicated that both groups showed significant improvement in total IPSS, IPSS-ST, IPSS-VD, and IPSS-QoL (p<0.05). A comparison of the degree of improved sexual function associated with improved LUTS in each patient showed significant improvement in the IIEF-5 score associated with the degree of improvement in the IPSS-ST domain in group 1, but no significant associations were found in group 2. In cases in which tamsulosin was administered, the IIEF-5 score significantly improved as the IPSS-ST domain score improved. In the group in which tamsulosin and solifenacin were concomitantly administered, improvement of the IPSS-ST domain score had no significant effect on the IIEF-5 score.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>In patients with LUTS/BPH, tamsulosin and solifenacin combination therapy was effective for LUTS, but erectile function was not significantly improved. Therefore, although effective for improving LUTS, combination therapy with an alpha-blocker and an antimuscarinic agent was not effective for improving erectile function.</P>

<P>Poly(N-vinylcaprolactarn) (PVCap) has previously been shown to be an outstanding low-dosage hydrate inhibitor (LDHI). The inhibition performance of LDHI is known to be influenced by molecular weight (M-w) and molecular weight distribution. In this study, PVCaps were synthesized by two different methods. The first method; reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, was used to prepare PVCap with a narrow molecular weight distribution (about M-w/M-n < 1.5), which is close to theoretical values. The second method) free radical polymerization (FRP), was used to obtain a broad molecular weight distribution (about M-w/M-n > 1.5). In a semi-batch stirrer reactor, hydrate inhibition performance of PVCap was evaluated. It was found that the inhibition performance was increased when the PVCap molecular weight decreased. PVCap with the narrower molecular weight distribution also showed the better inhibition performance.</P>

한국 성인의 경추부 운동성을 연구하기 위해 20대에서 60대에 이르는 각 연령군별 남녀 20명씩 총 200명을 대상으로 최대 굴곡 및 신전 측면 방사선 사진을 이용하여 각 운동 범위를 측정하고, 이를 성별, 연령군별, 전체 운동 범위의 정도에 따른 분절 운동을 측정하였을 때 전 연령층의 경추의 평균 굴신 운동 범위은 남자 60.24±9.34˚, 여자 67.02±10.51˚로 나타났고 같은 연령 군에서 전체 운동 범위 및 분절 운동 범위는 여자가 남자보다 컸으며, 연령이 증가함에 따라 분절 및 전체 운동 범위가 감소하였다. 전체 경추 운동성이 크고 젊은 연령 군에서는 제5-6 경추간의 운동 범위가 가장 컸으며 전체 운동성이 적고 나이든 연령군에서는 제 4-5 경추간의 운동 범위가 가장컸다. 이상은 경추의 형태 및 기능과 손상 기전을 이해하고, 그 질병 및 외상을 치료하는데 기초적인 자료로써 활용될수 있다고 사료된다. The full flexion and full extension anglular ranges of motion(ROM) from C2 to C7 were measured for 200 normal subjects to examine the cervical motions in Korean population Measurements were all taken from standard lateal radiographs with flexion and extension of cervical spine. The results were as follows ; 1.The average range of motion from C2-C7 was 63.94±14.29˚. 2.The total ROMs of male were in 3rd decade;73.25±11.07˚, 4th:63.80±11.33˚, 5th:61.50±9.96˚, 6th:53.00±7.94˚, 7th:52.20±7.23˚, and those of female were in 3rd:83.00±17.00˚, 4th:70.05±16.04˚, 5th:63.85±9.60˚, 6th:63.30±8.27˚, 7th:56.50±10.78˚. So, the women had larger total and segmental ROM than men in the same age group. And as age increased, the ROM was decreased. 3.The proportion of motion at level C5-6 and C4-5 were greater than any other segment. And the greatest proportion of motion was at C5-6 in younger and high total ROM group. While C4-5 was greatest in aged, and low total ROM group. Above data could be used in apprehension of disease and trauma of cervical spine and its treatment.
Synthesis and Characterization of New Polynorbornenes with Imide Side Chain

<P>In this study, we synthesized new polynobornene anhydrides (PNAs) with imide side groups. Three kinds of (o-, m-, p-) phenylenediamines and two kinds of anhydrides (trans-1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic anhydride and phthalic anhydride) were introduced into the PNAs. All PNA films were prepared through thermal imidization process. PNA modified with various imide moieties in a side chain exhibited excellent optical transparency (>85%) in the visible region due to the weakened electron accepting properties and non-planar steric structure of the imide moieties. That characteristic originated from the alicyclic structure of polynorbornene. All PNA films exhibited good thermal stability and mechanical properties. These PNAs with imide side chain can be good candidates for substrates of flexible displays.</P>
Classification of Mouse Lung Metastatic Tumor with Deep Learning

Traditionally, pathologists microscopically examine tissue sections to detect pathological lesions; the many slides that must be evaluated impose severe work burdens. Also, diagnostic accuracy varies by pathologist training and experience; better diagnostic tools are required. Given the rapid development of computer vision, automated deep learning is now used to classify microscopic images, including medical images. Here, we used a Inception-v3 deep learning model to detect mouse lung metastatic tumors via whole slide imaging (WSI); we cropped the images to 151 by 151 pixels. The images were divided into training (53.8%) and test (46.2%) sets (21,017 and 18,016 images, respectively). When images from lung tissue containing tumor tissues were evaluated, the model accuracy was 98.76%. When images from normal lung tissue were evaluated, the model accuracy (“no tumor”) was 99.87%. Thus, the deep learning model distinguished metastatic lesions from normal lung tissue. Our approach will allow the rapid and accurate analysis of various tissues.
Possible role of lysine demethylase 2A (KDM2A) in the pathophysiology of psoriasis

Background: Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease. The development of psoriasis is dependent on many intercellular events such as innate immunity and T cell-mediated inflammation. Furthermore, genetic factors are strongly implicated in the pathophysiology of psoriasis. Although a variety of susceptible genes are identified, it is likely that many important genes remain undisclosed. Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the possible role of lysine demethylase 2A (KDM2A) in the pathophysiology of psoriasis. Methods: We examined the expression of KDM2A using a well established imiquimod-induced psoriasiform dermatitis model. Results: Immunohistochemistry analysis showed that expression of KDM2A was increased in imiquimod-induced psoriasiform dermatitis. Consistent with this result, KDM2A level was markedly increased in the epidermis of psoriatic patient. When keratinocytes were stimulated with TLR3 agonist poly(I:C), KDM2A was increased at both the mRNA and protein levels. Poly(I:C) increased the expression of psoriasis-related cytokines including TNF-α, IL-8 and CCL20, and KDM2A inhibitor daminozide enhanced the poly(I:C)-induced cytokine expression. Finally, topical co-application of imiquimod and daminozide exacerbated the imiquimod-induced psoriasiform dermatitis. Conclusion: Together, these results suggest that KDM2A is increased to negatively regulate the inflammatory reaction of epidermal keratinocytes in psoriasis.
