김현수,안근영,장대희 대한건축학회 2003 대한건축학회 학술발표대회 논문집 - 계획계/구조계 Vol.23 No.1

With environmental problems and pollutions accumulated by continuous urban development projects, it is becoming necessary to develop in consideration of environmental effects. On this study, it is suggested the critical point of biotope space factor and the supplement device. Natural ground area ratio is functioned as important factor in urban area. So in region, high-rated in natural ground area ratio, or in new urban development area, it is necessary to get supplement tool for conserving preferentially natural ground area. And it is considerable to ply individual environment planning indicator in case of need. This study has main contents as follows; biotope space factor was applied to actual case, rebuilding housing complex in Cham-sil to diagnosis ecological level and to lead more ecologically sound plan. After considering all the factors there was the critical point in using as just one tool, biotope space factor, so we suggested supplement device to solve this problem for an example, by regional characteristics, biotope space factor and individual environmental planning factor will be used together.

      • A Robust Method for Pulse Peak Determination in a Digital Volume Pulse Waveform With a Wandering Baseline

        Dae-Geun Jang,Farooq, Umar,Seung-Hun Park,Minsoo Hahn IEEE 2014 IEEE transactions on biomedical circuits and syste Vol.8 No.5

This paper presents a robust method for pulse peak determination in a digital volume pulse (DVP) waveform with a wandering baseline. A proposed new method uses a modified morphological filter (MMF) to eliminate a wandering baseline signal of the DVP signal with minimum distortion and a slope sum function (SSF) with an adaptive thresholding scheme to detect pulse peaks from the baseline-removed DVP signal. Further in order to cope with over-detected and missed pulse peaks, knowledge based rules are applied as a postprocessor. The algorithm automatically adjusts detection parameters periodically to adapt to varying beat morphologies and fluctuations. Compared with conventional methods (highpass filtering, linear interpolation, cubic spline interpolation, and wavelet adaptive filtering), our method performs better in terms of the signal-to-error ratio, the computational burden (0.125 seconds for one minute of DVP signal analysis with the Intel Core 2 Quad processor @ 2.40 GHz PC), the true detection rate (97.32% with an acceptance level of 4 ms ) as well as the normalized error rate (0.18%). In addition, the proposed method can detect true positions of pulse peaks more accurately and becomes very useful for pulse transit time (PTT) and pulse rate variability (PRV) analyses.

      • A Knowledge-Based Approach to Arterial Stiffness Estimation Using the Digital Volume Pulse

        Dae-Geun Jang,Farooq, U.,Seung-Hun Park,Choong-Won Goh,Minsoo Hahn IEEE 2012 IEEE transactions on biomedical circuits and syste Vol.6 No.4

We have developed a knowledge based approach for arterial stiffness estimation. The proposed new approach reliably estimates arterial stiffness based on the analysis of age and heart rate normalized reflected wave arrival time. The proposed new approach reduces cost, space, technical expertise, specialized equipment, complexity, and increases the usability compared to recently researched noninvasive arterial stiffness estimators. The proposed method consists of two main stages: pulse feature extraction and linear regression analysis. The new approach extracts the pulse features and establishes a linear prediction equation. On evaluating proposed methodology with pulse wave velocity (PWV) based arterial stiffness estimators, the proposed methodology offered the error rate of 8.36% for men and 9.52% for women, respectively. With such low error rates and increased benefits, the proposed approach could be usefully applied as low cost and effective solution for ubiquitous and home healthcare environments.

Vehicle Shadow Removal For Intelligent Traffic System

Jang, Dae-Geun,Kim, Eui-Jeong The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2006 Journal of information and communication convergen Vol.4 No.3

The limited number of roads and the increasing number of vehicles demand the automatic regulation of overspeed vehicles, illegal vehicles, and overloaded vehicles and the automatic charge calculation depending on the type of the vehicle. To meet such requirements, it is important to remove the shadow of the vehicle as processing and recognizing an image captured by a camera. The shadow of the vehicle is likely to cause misclassification of the vehicle type due to diverse errors and mistakes occurring when detecting geometrical properties of the vehicle. In case that shadows of two different vehicles are overlapped, not only the type of the vehicles may be misclassified but also it is difficult to accurately identify the type of the vehicles. In this paper, we propose a robust algorithm to remove the shadow of a vehicle by calculating the luminance, the chrominance, the gradient density of the cast shadow from information acquired using the image subtraction of the background, and to recognize the substantial vehicle figure. Even when it is hard to detect and split a target vehicle from its shadow as shadows of vehicles are attached to each other, our robust algorithm can detect the vehicle figure only. We implemented our system with a general camera and conducted experiments on various vehicles on general roads to find out our vehicle shade removal algorithm is efficient when detecting and recognizing vehicles.

      • A Peronal Biofeedback Mental Training System Based on Relaxation Response

        Dae-Geun Jang,Dae-Heung Son,Seung-Hun Park,Min-Soo Hahn 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7

Just as physical training improves body abilities, mental training has positive conditioning effects for people of all ages. Many old exercise instruments, however, only focused on improvement of physical abilities. In addition, most of the recently developed mental training system provide monotonous training protocols, without any reflection of subject’s physiological status. In order to solve this lack of mental training system and to serve various mental training protocols, which reflect the physiological factors, we developed a mental training system based on the concept of relaxation response. In our developed mental training system, there are two main parameters to represent subject’s physiological status: pulse rate and respiratory rate. These two parameters are responsible for Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), which controls functions in the body which normally occur unconsciously. From this fact, we have intended to balance the ANS through the control of subject’s breathing habit. We used a red-LED typed biosensor to detect pulse wave and to estimate breath wave. In order to evaluate respiratory wave, we have applied the pulse envelope detection technique and beat-to-beat heart rate variability. We have assessed this algorithm whether it agrees with real breath rate or not. From the experimental results, we have concluded that our estimated respiratory rate approximately agrees with real breath rate and thus our system can be used as a mental training system through balancing the ANS by controlling subject’s respiratory rate.

Vol.13 No.1

Vol.0 No.54

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) on Korean adult males and females from social and physical points of view. 956 subjects were employed for the evaluation and they were divided into 12 groups according to their age and gender. Further we considered subjects` exercise status to investigate the effect of exercise on the baPWV. For the investigation, the scatter plot analysis and the chi-square test were employed with the baPWV and its normal rate, which is defined as a proportion of subjects within normal baPWV ranges. The results show that the baPWV is linearly related to the age, and baPWVs in the male are slightly higher than them in the female but this tendency is reduced with increasing ages. Further the results indicate that people who exercise regularly have lower baPWV than unexercised people. These results can be explained by high smoking and high-risk drinking rates in twenties, nutritional imbalance, lack of physical activity with increasing ages, and low participation rate of Korean adults for physical activities.

Vol.23 No.1

The aim of the study was to investigate the Korean adults’ short-term pulse rate variabilities (PRV) using the frequency and nonlinear analyses techniques. In this study, we utilized 336 photoplethysmogram (PPG) signals obtained for one-minute. For the frequency PRV analysis, three well-known quantitative parameters were used: the normalized low frequency (LFnorm) power, the normalized high frequency (HFnorm) power, and the LF/HF ratio. As nonlinear dynamic measures, the standard deviation (SD) ratio, the dimension spectrum with order of 2, the Higuchi’s fractal dimension, and the approximate entropy were used. The PRV parameters were evaluated by the multiple linear regression analysis with independent variables of age, sex, BMI, exercise status, familiar cardiovascular disease history, hypertension status, and heart rate. The variables of sex, exercise status, and familial cardiovascular disease history were used as dummy variables. The results show that regression models with each PRV parameter are statistically significant (p<.001). In particular, the regression model with the approximate entropy shows the highest coefficient of determination (R₂) among the regression models. The results further indicate that the short-term PRV parameters are significantly correlated with subjects’ age and sex. Therefore, we conclude that the PRV parameters derived from the short-term PP intervals are proper to investigate the Korean adults’ cardiovascular-autonomic characteristics.
