In this study, Pd-Ni-Ag alloy hydrogen separation membranes were fabricated by Pd/Ag/Pd/Ni/Pd multilayer sputter deposition on the modified MIM(Metal Injection Molding)-PSS(Porous Stainless Steel) support and followed heat treatment. Nickel, used as an alloying element in Pd alloy membranes, is inexpensive and stable material in a hydrogen isotope environment at high temperature up to 1123 K. Hydrogen permselectivity of Pd-Ni-Ag alloy membranes is affected not only by composition of membrane films but also by other factors such as surface properties of PSS support, microstructure of membrane films and inter-diffused impurities from PSS support. In order to clarify the effect of surface Ni composition on hydrogen permselectivity of Pd-Ni-Ag alloy membranes, the other effects were significantly minimized by the formation of dense and homogeneous Pd-Ni-Ag alloy membranes. Hydrogen permeation test showed that hydrogen permeability decreased from 7.6 × 10<SUP>-09</SUP> to 1.02 × 10<SUP>-09</SUP> mol/m·s·Pa<SUP>0.5</SUP> as Ni composition increased from 0 to 16 wt% and the selectivity for H₂/N₂ was infinite.
감마선 이용 AEMA 도입 PCL 나노섬유의 제조 및 특성분석

폴리카프로락톤(polycaprolactone, PCL)은 생체적합성이 우수하고 시간이 지나면 체내에서 생분해되어 조직공학용 생체재료로 많이 사용되고 있다. 하지만, 소수성 표면과 낮은 세포 부착성을 나타내는 단점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 PCL 필름 및 전기방사를 통한 나노섬유 지지체를 제조하고 감마선을 이용하여 친수성과 양전하의 아민기를 갖는 2-아미노에틸메타크릴레이트(2-aminoethylmethacrylate, AEMA)로 표면을 개질하였다. 감마선을 이용하여 표면 개질된 PCL 필름과 나노섬유의 분석 결과, ATR-FTIR을 통해 감마선 선량과 반응 표면적이 증가할수록 표면의 아민기가 증가함을 확인하였다. 아민기의 증가로 인해 친수성이 증가했음을 확인하였고 단백질 흡착량이 정전기적 인력으로 인해 증가함을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 AEMA가 도입된 PCL 필름보다 나노섬유 지지체의 경우 세포적합성이 향상된 조직공학용 지지체로서의 응용 가능성이 매우 높을 것으로 기대된다. Polycaprolactone (PCL) has been applied to tissue engineering because it has excellent biocompatibility and biodegradable properties. However, there is a limit to hydrophobic surface and low cell adhesion, therefore the PCL requires surface modification for increasing hydrophilicity and cell adhesion capacity. In this study, PCL films and nanofibers were manufactured by solvent casting and electrospinning, respectively. They were modified by 2-aminoethylmethacrylate (AEMA) that had hydrophilicity and amine groups of positive charge using gamma-irradiation. The surface properties of AEMA-grafted PCL films and nanofibers were confirmed by ATR-FTIR, and amine groups were increased by surface area and gamma-irradiation dose. A significantly higher amount of negative-charged proteins adhered to hydrophilic and cationic surface of AEMA-grafted PCL nanofibers than that of AEMA-grafted PCL films, because of increased amine groups and electrostatic interaction. The results show that AEMA-grafted PCL nanofibers are possible to apply tissue engineering scaffolds.
Evolution of Al Alloy Melt Foam Pore Structure in Foaming Process

<P>A study was carried out to understand the relationship between the pore structure’s evolution of Al alloy melt foam and its preparation variables, which include decomposition properties of titanium hydride, the stirring foaming time and the holding foaming time. The results show that the foaming process of Al alloy melt can be inferred by the relation curves of decomposition quantity of titanium hydride and time at a specific temperature. The porosity of Al alloy melt during stirring foaming period is kept constant while the pore number increases and pore diameter decreases, which is a new method of fabricating Al alloy foam with a relatively low porosity and small pore size.</P>

Objective To determine the effects of an integrated training device for strength and balance on extremity muscle strength, postural balance, and cognition in older adults using a combination with various rehabilitation training games, in which balance, strength, and cognitive training were configured in a single device. Methods This prospective study included 20 healthy participants aged 65–85 years. Participants trained for 30 minutes daily, 3 days weekly, for 6 weeks with an integrated training device for strength and balance (SBT-120; Man&Tel Inc., Gumi, Korea). Main outcomes were measured using the Korean Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE), Korean version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (K-MoCA), Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), Functional Reach Test (FRT), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and Manual Muscle Test. Measurements were taken at three time points: T0 (pretreatment), T1 (immediately after treatment), and T2 (4 weeks after treatment). Results All 20 patients completed the training, and TUG, FRT, and BBS scores significantly improved at T1 and T2 compared to T0. Mean TUG scores decreased by 0.99±2.00 at T1 and 1.05±1.55 at T2 compared to T0. Mean FRT scores increased by 6.13±4.26 at T1 and 6.75±4.79 at T2 compared to T0. BBS scores increased by 0.60±0.94 at T1 and 0.45±1.15 at T2 compared to T0. Moreover, muscle strength and cognition (K-MMSE and K-MoCA scores) increased after training. Conclusion Our findings suggest that an integrated training device for strength and balance can be a safe and useful tool for older adults.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) increases with aging society. Serious games may be effective in improving cognitive function in patients with MCI; however, research on their effects remains insufficient. This study aimed to confirm the efficacy and safety of cognitive rehabilitation training using a serious game (Brain Talk™) for the elderly with MCI. Twenty- four elderly individuals with MCI were randomized into study and control groups. The study group received 12 training sessions (30 min/session, 3 times/week), whereas the control group did not receive training. Blinded evaluations were conducted before and after the training and four weeks after the training. The primar y outcome measures were the Korean Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE) and K-MoCA (Korean Montreal Cognitive Assessment). Secondar y outcome measures were the Semantic Verbal Fluency Task (SVFT), Trail-Making Test-B, and 2-back test. In the study group, the K-MMSE, K-MoCA, and SVFT scores after finishing the training and 4 weeks after training showed a significant increase; however, there was no significant change in the control group. No significant differences were obser ved between the two groups. Cognitive function significantly improved in the study group after training. Home-based serious games are considered helpful in improving cognitive function

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The analytical features of MP-AES for the determination of Mn in wine were studied as compared with ICP-OES. The optimum spectral line (403.076 nm) of MP-AES was different from that (259.373 nm) of ICP-OES. Significant matrix effect was observed with MP-AES, but not with ICP-OES. A simple and cost-effective MP-AES for the quantitation of Mn in wild grape (<I>Vitis coignetiae</I>) red wines were developed and validated. A standard addition method was used to compensate the matrix effects. The sensitivity of MP-AES was comparable to that of ICP-OES. MP-AES was sensitive, precise, accurate and reliable. The Mn concentration in the wild grape wines was in the range of 502–3627 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>. MP-AES had a distinct drawback of low matrix tolerance. However, MP-AES had a clear advantage of the low running cost due to the use of nitrogen gas generated from air with a nitrogen generator.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A simple and cheap MP-AES was developed and validated for the quantitation of Mn in wine. </LI> <LI> The analytical features for the MP-AES were greatly different with those of ICP-OES. </LI> <LI> Significant matrix effect in wine sample matrices was observed with MP-AES, but not with ICP-OES. </LI> <LI> The low matrix tolerance of MP-AES was overcome by a standard addition method. </LI> <LI> The contents of Mn in wild grape (<I>Vitis coignetiae</I>) wines are reported for the first time. </LI> </UL> </P>
