        A Study on Operational Efficiency Analysis on the Value of Chinese Shipping Companies

        Shipping companies are key components of the logistics industry, which is extremely significant in enhancing the country's comprehensive national power and promoting global trade development. In the context of the implementation of the new development pattern strategy in China and the impact of the global novel coronavirus (COVID-19), this paper takes 22 Chinese shipping listed companies as the research object and analyses the operational efficiency of them from 2011 to 2020 based on the Super-SBM DEA Model and Window DEA Model. Factors affecting the efficiency are further analyzed with the Tobit model. The research conclude that the operational efficiency of Chinese shipping companies as a whole shows a steady increase from 2011 to 2020. Although most of them are in a relatively effective operation state, fewer are absolutely effective companies. Besides efficiency among companies differs obviously, which indicates the potential of further improvement and promotion. What’s more, factors such as current economic development level, enterprise size, human resources quality and enterprise turnover speed have significant positive correlation to the operation efficiency of Chinese shipping listed companies, which is significant to improve the operation efficiency of Chinese shipping companies.

      • A Technique to Enable the Corruption-aware Transport Protocols in Realistic Networks

        The traditional reliable transport protocols are originally designed for the wired networks, which regard any packet losses as the indication of network congestion and halve their congestion windows to alleviate the traffic overload of network. However, unlike in wired networks, non-congestion losses will severely degrade the performance of traditional transport protocols in wireless networks. Thus some corruption-aware transport protocols have been proposed to overcome the performance degradation caused by corruption. Unfortunately, the corruption-aware transport protocols cannot work in realistic networks up to now since the corrupted packets have been discarded by the link layer checksum mechanisms before they are delivered to transport layer. This paper proposes a technique to overcome this problem without disabling the link layer checksum mechanisms. Simulation results show that the performance of corruption-aware transport protocols are still far better than that of traditional ones while the proposed scheme is applied.

        Evaluation and Application of Fengyun‑4A/LMI Data in Tropical Cyclone Monitoring Over the Southeast Coast of China

        Taking 8 tropical cyclones (TCs) in 2018 as examples, the data quality and the application potential of Fengyun-4 A (FY-4 A)Lightning Mapping Imager (LMI) in monitoring lightning activity and analyzing the relationship between lightning activityand TC intensity are investigated and evaluated over the southeast coast of China. A comparison shows that the diurnal variationand the radial spatial distribution of lightning activity from FY-4 A/LMI data, and the relationship between FY-4 A/LMI lightning activity and tropical cyclone (TC) intensity are mainly consistent with the existing ground-based observations. FY-4 A/LMI data are further utilized to analyze some issues that are controversial or contradictory in the existing studies,and results show that there are obvious differences in the spatial distribution of TC lightning between land and sea. When TCis located on the sea and the land, lightning activity presents a radial spatial distribution of high-low-high and low-mediumhigh,respectively. Higher lightning density is mainly concentrated in the west and south side of TC track. During the changeof TC intensity, the lightning activity in the outer rainband continues to be active, but the lightning activity in the eyewallregion may be a better indicator for the early warning of TC intensity. We conclude that FY-4 A/LMI has good performanceand practical potential in TC lightning monitoring and early warning.

      • Topic Discovery Algorithm Based on Mutual Information and Label Clustering under Dynamic Social Networks

        In recent years, topic detection has become a hot research point of the social network, which can be very good to find the key factors from the massive information and thus discover the topics. The traditional label propagation-based topic discovery algorithm (LPA) is widely concerned because of its approximate linear time complexity and there is no need to define the target function. However, LPA algorithm has the uncertainty and the randomness, which affects the accuracy and the stability of the topic discovery. In this paper, a method for clustering label words based on mutual information analysis is presented to find the current topic. Firstly, through filtering the stop words and extracting keywords with TF-IDF, topic words are been extracted out, and then a common word matrix is built, a topic discovery algorithm based on mutual information and label clustering is put forward. Finally, extensive experiments on two real datasets validate the effectiveness of the proposed MI-LC (Mutual information-Label clustering) algorithm against other well-established methods LPA and LDA in terms of running time, NMI value and perplexity value.

        Extending Dunning's Eclectic Paradigm toward a Synthetic Model of FDI Performance: An Empirical Evidence in China

        By reviewing the existing literature on FDI theories and FDI performance determinants, we find the necessity and possibility to develop a synthetic model to measure FDI performance. This model is not a simple combination of existing theories, but a reorganization of those theories arranged into a new theoretical framework. A logical connection between the MNC subsidiary’s ability to realize OLI advantages and the performance of FDI is found and important extensions to the OLI paradigm are made. The synthetic model is a split OLI paradigm by subcategorizing each of OLI into two elements, thereby the total of six elements. An empirical study of 13 FDI cases in China is conducted to test the model and the empirical evidences support the arguments of this new synthetic model.

      • An Improved PSO Algorithm Based CommunityTopic Refinement Strategy for Social Network

        Aiming at the division roughness of topic classification existing in the most online social networks community, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is applied to refine community topics and concepts of community seeds and community topic are also introduced. In this paper, first of all, the explicit links existing in the community are mined, and the basic community structure is constructed, then the community content is deeply analyzed, according to implicit feature between nodes under online community, community topic categories are elaborately refined until structure is stable. Experiments show that this proposed algorithm can accelerate the convergence of the node and greatly improves the topic mining accuracy of online social network compared with the state-of-art CR2NDAS model and PLSA model.

        Effect of nutritional factors on the accretion of secondary metabolites in Malaysian ginseng adventitious root cultures

        In this study, we aimed to verify the effect of nutritional factors on the accretion of secondary metabolites in the adventitious root (AR) cultures of Malaysian ginseng (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) grown in small-scale bioreactors. AR were induced from leaf explants and cultured in different types of media including Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, Driver Kuniyuki Walnut (DKW) medium, Gamborg’s B5 medium, Woody Plant Medium (WPM), and ¾ MS medium. Among these media, the MS and Gamborg’s B5 media induced lateral root development from initial inoculum, which accounted for the increase in AR biomass accretion. By contrast, the DKW and WPM media did not induce lateral root formation from the cultured explants. The ¾ MS medium was optimal for the growth of AR and accretion of secondary metabolites, after 7 weeks of culture, the biomass of AR increased by 8.6-fold in ¾ MS medium, and the total phenolic and flavonoid contents reached 5.23 and 2 mg g−1 of tissue dry weight, respectively. Analysis of mineral elements in the spent medium revealed that ¾ MS medium was most suitable for nutrient supply to developing AR. LC–MS analysis showed the accretion of eurycomanone, a therapeutically useful metabolite, in the AR of Malaysian ginseng.

      • Upregulation of MicroRNA 181c Expression in Gastric Cancer Tissues and Plasma

        Objective: To test the microRNA-181c (miR-181c) expression in tissues and plasma of gastric cancer (GC) cases, analyze any correlations, and explore the possibility of miR-181c as a potential molecular marker for GC diagnosis. Materials and Methods: Relative miR-181c expression levels in cancers and plasma from 30 GC patients was tested using reverse transcription-real-time fluorescent quantitation PCR and compared to that in samples from 30 gastric ulcer and 30 chronic gastritis patients. Results: The miR-181c expression level in the GC tissues was significantly higher than that in the gastric ulcer and chronic gastritis tissues (P = 0.000), as was the miR-181c expression level in the GC plasma (P = 0.000). We determined that miR-181c expression in GC plasma was positively correlated to its expression in the GC tissues (P = 0.000). Conclusions: The expression of miR-181c is upregulated in GC tissues and plasma, and the miR-181c expression level in GC plasma is positively correlated to that in the corresponding cancer tissues. Plasma miR-181c is possibly a new serological marker for GC diagnosis.

        Rational coordination regulation in carbon-based single-metal-atom catalysts for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction

        Single-metal-atom catalysts (SMACs) have garnered extensive attention for various electrocatalytic applications, owing to their maximum atom-utilization efficiency, tunable electronic structure, and remarkable catalytic performance. In particular, carbon-based SMACs exhibit optimal electrocatalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) which is of paramount importance for several sustainable energy conversion and generation technologies, such as fuel cells and metal-air batteries. Despite continuous endeavors in developing various advanced carbon-based SMACs for electrocatalytic ORR, the rational regulation of coordination structure and thus the electronic structure of carbon-based SMACs remains challenging. In this review, we critically examine the role of coordination structure, including local coordination structure (i.e., metal atomic centers and the first coordination shell) and extended local coordination structure (i.e., the second and higher coordination shells), on the rational design of carbon-based SMACs for high-efficiency electrocatalytic ORR. Insights into the relevance between coordination structures and their intrinsic ORR activities are emphatically exemplified and discussed. Finally, we also propose the major challenges and future perspectives in the rational design of advanced carbon-based SMACs for electrocatalytic ORR. This review aims to emphasize the significance of coordination structure and deepen the insightful understanding of structure-performance relationships.

      • Effects of combined BCG and DHEA treatment in preventing the development of asthma.

        <P>Both BCG and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) induce Th1 immune responses and suppress Th2 allergic reactions. To investigate whether the combination of BCG and DHEA has an additive effect on asthma prevention, BALB/c mice (n = 10 per group) were given an intraperitoneal injection of BCG at the beginning of sensitization, and fed mice chow containing DHEA throughout the study. In female mice, the combined administration of 2 x 10(4) CFUs BCG and 0.01% DHEA effectively suppressed the ovalbumin-induced increase in airway sensitivity to methacholine (56.5 vs. 8.2 mg/mL, p < 0.01), while BCG (13.9 mg/mL) or DHEA (17.9 mg/mL) alone did not. However, the addition of high dose (0.1%) DHEA decreased the efficacy of high dose (2 x 10(5) CFUs) BCG in suppressing the airway responsiveness and eosinophilia. In male mice, the treatments with BCG and/or DHEA were less effective, and the interferon-gamma/interleukin-4 ratio in the splenocyte supernatant was significantly higher and the ovalbumin-specific IgE concentration in the serum was significantly lower as compared to female mice. In conclusion, the combination of low doses of BCG and DHEA had an additive effect in suppressing the development of airway hypersensitivity. Androgens in males and DHEA overdose might reduce the efficacy of BCG.</P>
