        Preference Analysis for Flower Jewelry Using Conjoint Analysis

        Background and objective: This study was conducted to determine the preferences in flower jewelry by conducting a surveyusing conjoint analysis on the perception of flower jewelry and provide basic data for development of flower jewelryproducts. Methods: For the conjoint analysis, four attributes of flower jewelry were selected. Attribute 1 was related to the mainmaterial of flower jewelry, presented in three levels: cut flowers, potted flowers, and processed flowers. Attribute 2 wasrelated to wearing area presented in five levels of wearing area: hair, neck, ear, arm (wrist) and chest (shoulder). Attribute3 was related to price provided for selling products in flower shops, presented in three levels: less than 30,000 won,50,000-70,000 won, and more than 100,000 won. Attribute 4 was related to flower jewelry wearing time, presented inthree levels: less than 6 hours, 12-24 hours, and more than 24 hours. After extracting 25 profiles through orthogonaldesign, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 402 general participants, from which the responses of 343 participantswere analyzed. Results: By attribute of flower jewelry, the respondents attached most importance to price (34.14%), followed by wearingarea (29.18%), wearing time (18.51%), and material (18.17%), proving that the general public attached most importanceto price (Pearson's R = .987, p = .000). The preference in levels by attribute was highest for processed flowers in material,less than 30,000 won in price, hair in wearing area, and 12-24 hours in wearing time. Conclusion: By making flower jewelry based on the results of the analysis, it would be possible to help increase items soldin flower shops as well as their income.

        데이터 마이닝을 활용한 한국 프로야구 구단의 승패예측과 승률 향상을 위한 전략 도출 연구

        본 연구에서는 데이터 마이닝 기법을 활용하여 한국 프로야구의 승패예측모형을 구축하는 실험을 진행하였다. 이를 위해, 2017년에 실시된 한국 프로야구 10개 구단의 전체 경기 중 무승부 경기를 제외한 1,418경기에 대한 자료를 사용하였다. 승패예측모형에는 의사결정나무, 베이즈넷, 인공신경망 알고리즘과 앙상블 기법인 배깅과 부스팅이 사용되었으며, 그 결과 배깅 기법에 인공신경망을 적용한 예측모형에서 가장 높은 예측률인 85.18%를 기록하였다. 다음으로 의사결정나무 기반 예측모형을 활용하여 한국 프로야구 전체 구단에 관한 8개의 승패규칙을 도출하였다. 여기에서 승패규칙은 승패예측에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인들인 팀출루율, 팀타율, 피안타, 안타, 타석, 타수로 표현되며, 도출된 규칙을 바탕으로 구단의 승률 향상에 도움을 주는 전략을 제안하였다. 또한 플레이오프 진출 구단과 미진출 구단에 관한 승리규칙을 각각 4개씩 도출하였고 이를 바탕으로 두 집단에 맞춤화된 승률 향상 전략을 제시하였으며, 실제 구단에서 선수를 영입한 방향과의 비교를 통해 제시된 전략의 활용 가능성을 확인하였다. This study conducted an experiment to develop win-loss prediction models for the Korean professional baseball league using data mining techniques. To this end, we used data on 1,418 games from all games played by the ten Korean professional baseball teams in 2017, except draw games. We developed win-loss prediction models using not only a decision tree, Bayse net, and artificial neural network algorithms, but also ensemble methods, such as bagging and boosting. As a result, first, we found that the artificial neural network-based prediction model using the bagging method reported the best accuracy (85.18%). Second, we derived eight win-loss rules for entire teams from the decision tree-based prediction model. These rules consist of six influential factors: team on base average, team batting average, hit by opponent, hit, plate appearances, and at bat. Using the derived rules, we proposed helpful strategies for improving the winning rate. Third, we derived four winning rules for both playoff teams and non-playoff teams; using the rules we proposed customized strategies for improving the winning rate of the two different groups. Finally, we confirmed the feasibility of the proposed strategies by comparing non-playoff teams’ actual player recruitment strategies.

      • Anti-inflammatory effect of buddlejasaponin IV though the inhibition of iNOS and COX-2 expression in RAW 264.7 macrophages via the NF-kB inactivation

        1 Buddlejasaponin IV isolated from Pleurospermum kamtschatidum is an anti-inflammatory compound that inhibits NO, PGE_(2) and TNF-α. production. Here, we studied the mode of action of this compound. 2 Buddlejasaponin IV (2.5-10μm) reduced lipopolysaccaride (LPS (1 μg ml^(-1)))-induced levels of iNOS and COX-2 at the protein levels, and iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α, interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6 mRNA expression in RAW 264.7 macrophages in a concentration-dependent manner, as determined by Western blotting and RT-PCR, respectively. 3 Buddlejasaponin IV inhibited the LPS-induced activation of nuclear factor-KB (NF-κB), a transcription factor necessary for proinflammatory mediators, iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 expression. This effect was accompanied by a parallel reduction in IkB-α degradation and phosphorylation, and by the nuclear translocation of the NF-κB p65 subunit. 4 The effects of buddlejasaponin IV on acute phase inflammation were studied on serotonin- and carrageenan-induced paw edema. The antiedematous effect of buddlejasaponin IV was compared with 10 mgkg^(-1) of indomethacin p.o. Maximum inhibitions of 26 and 41% were noted at a dose of 20 mgkg^(-1) for serotonin- and carrageenan-induced paw edema, respectively. 5 The analgesic effect of buddlejasaponin IV was evaluated using acetic acid-induced writhing and hot-plate tests. Buddlejasaponin IV (10 and 20 mgkg^(-1), p.o.) was found to have a marked analgesic effect in both models. 6 These results suggest that the inhibitions of the expressions of iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 by blocking NF-κB activation, are responsible for the anti-inflammatory effects of buddlejasaponin IV isolated from P. kamtschatidum.

        Effects of GnF Concentration on the Mechanoelectrical Properties and Surface Morphology of GnF/PDMS Composites

        <P>The graphite nanoflake (GnF)-reinforced polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composites (GnF/PDMS composites) are developed as new polymer matrix composites (PMCs) with controllable mechanoelectrical properties. Here, we investigate the effect of GnF concentration on the mechanoelectrical properties (i.e., elastic modulus, fracture strain, and conductivity) of GnF/PDMS composites; the change in the surface morphology of GnF/PDMS composites caused by a variation in GnF concentration is also explored. The mechanoelectrical properties are measured by performing tensile tests on the GnF/PDMS composite specimens with different GnF concentrations of 5.0, 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 20.0, and 25.0 wt.%. The surface morphology is analyzed in terms of internal void formation and surface roughness. The elastic modulus is measured to be in the range of 1.62 to 13.8 MPa which is proportional to GnF concentration, while the fracture strain and electrical conductivity are respectively characterized to be in ranges of 0.09 to 2.09 and 0.3 to 221.0 S/m which are in inverse proportion to GnF concentration. An increase in GnF concentration leads to increases in internal voids’ amount and surface roughness. The GnF/PDMS composites can be used as sensing materials for detecting both small and large deformations in a variety of engineering applications.</P>

        Association Study between 5-HT1A Receptor Gene C(-1019)G Polymorphism and Panic Disorder in a Korean Population

        ObjectiveaaSerotonergic dysfunction is quite evident in panic disorder. We investigated whether the C(-1019)G polymorphism of 5-HT1A receptor gene may play a role in the pathogenesis of panic disorder in a Korean population. MethodsaaThe 5-HT1A receptor genotype for the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)C(-1019)G was analyzed in 94 patients and 111 healthy controls. The severity of the patients’symptoms was examined using the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS), Anxiety sensitivity index (ASI), Acute Panic Inventory (API)and Hamilton’s Rating Scale for Anxiety (HAM-A). ResultsaaThe distribution of the genotypes of the C/G polymorphism did not differ significantly from those predicted by Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in patients as well as the controls. No association between the C(-1019)G polymorphism and panic disorder was detected in either the allele frequency or genotype distribution. There was no significant association with genotype distribution in the panic disorder with agoraphobia. However, there was a significant difference of symptom severity between C/C, C/G, and G/G genotype or between C and G allele in panic disorder patients without agoraphobia. PDSS scores were significantly higher in subjects with the G/G genotype or with G allele in patients without agoraphobia, not in total patients or patients with agoraphobia. ConclusionaaAlthough there were no significant differences in the genotype and allele distributions,we found a significant association between panic symptom severity and the serotonin 1A receptor gene. This result suggests that the serotonin 1A receptor and serotonin may play a role in the pathogenesis of panic disorder.

      • The electrochemical glucose sensing based on the chitosan-carbon nanotube hybrid

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In glucose sensors, the direct electron transfer (DET) method delivers electrons from glucose oxidase (GOx) to an electrode without the intervention of a mediator. Many researchers have developed the DET method using carbon nanotube (CNT)-based composites for the permeation into the enzyme co-factor. We synthesized chitosan (Chit) core-shelled CNTs that were hydrophilic, biocompatible, and easily prepared. Electrodes with three different Chit-CNT weight ratios were prepared, and their morphological and physicochemical properties were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transition electron microscopy (TEM). The Chit-CNT85 composite (85 wt% Chit) performed optimally by cyclic voltammetry (CV), and was covalently modified with GOx via a routine coupling protocol to form the GOx-Chit-CNT85/ITO electrode. This electrode was electrochemically characterized by impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The GOx loading and pH were optimized against the CV redox potential. The electrode exhibited a fast electron-transfer constant (<I>k<SUB>s</SUB> </I>) of 8.2 s<SUP>−1</SUP>. The cathodic peak of GOx decreased in response to increasing glucose concentrations, but no changes were observed in the presence of physiological interfering substances such as ascorbic acid and uric acid.       • Models of solar and lunar motions in the Chinese <i>Chongxiu-Daming</i> calendar

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The <I>Chongxiu-Damingli</I> (Revised Great Enlightenment Calendar) of the Jin dynasty (A.D. 1115–1234) was developed in 1171 and used until 1280 in China. It had also been used since the reign of King Sejong (A.D. 1418–1450) in Korea to supplement calculations of the eclipse times. In this study, we investigate solar and lunar motions in this calendar. Referring to the <I>Garyeong</I> (Example Supplement for the Calculations of Solar and Lunar Eclipses Occurred in 1447) preserved in Korea, we first investigate sunrise and sunset times by the <I>Chongxiu-Damingli</I> to estimate the observation sites of these times. We then analyze the calculation methods of solar and lunar motions and of the maximum eclipse time using the calendar. We find that a cubic equation was utilized to calculate sunrise and sunset times. Compared with the results of modern calculations, we also find that the sunrise and sunset times are more suitable at Kaifeng (capital of the Northern Song dynasty) than Beijing (capital of the Jin dynasty). This finding confirms the record of the <I>Jinshi</I> (History of the Jin Dynasty) that the <I>Chongxiu-Damingli</I> was made based on the calendar of the Northern Song dynasty. Regarding solar and lunar motions, we find that the mean absolute difference values between the <I>Chongxiu-Damingli</I> and modern calculations are ∼0.005 and ∼0.145 degrees, respectively. Lastly, we find that the difference in the time of maximum solar eclipse that occurred on 1447 September 10 in Seoul (capital of the Joseon dynasty) is approximately 1 min between the calendar and modern calculation. We believe that this study will contribute to understanding the <I>Chongxiu-Damingli</I> and comparing the accuracy with other Chinese calendars such as the <I>Shoushili</I>.</P>

        Use of Cas9 Targeting and Red Recombination for Designer Phage Engineering

        Bacteriophages (phages) are natural antibiotics and biological nanoparticles, whose application is significantly boosted by recent advances of synthetic biology tools. Designer phages are synthetic phages created by genome engineering in a way to increase the benefits or decrease the drawbacks of natural phages. Here we report the development of a straightforward genome engineering method to efficiently obtain engineered phages in a model bacterial pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This was achieved by eliminating the wild type phages based on the Streptococcus pyogenes Cas9 (SpCas9) and facilitating the recombinant generation based on the Red recombination system of the coliphage λ (λRed). The producer (PD) cells of P. aeruginosa strain PAO1 was created by miniTn7-based chromosomal integration of the genes for SpCas9 and λRed under an inducible promoter. To validate the efficiency of the recombinant generation, we created the fluorescent phages from a temperate phage MP29. A plasmid bearing the single guide RNA (sgRNA) gene for selectively targeting the wild type gp35 gene and the editing template for tagging the Gp35 with superfolder green fluorescent protein (sfGFP) was introduced into the PD cells by electroporation. We found that the targeting efficiency was affected by the position and number of sgRNA. The fluorescent phage particles were efficiently recovered from the culture of the PD cells expressing dual sgRNA molecules. This protocol can be used to create designer phages in P. aeruginosa for both application and research purposes.

        Eosinophilic gastroenteritis in an 18-year-old male with prolonged nephrotic syndrome

        Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare disease characterized by prominent eosinophilic tissue infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract. Here, we report a case of eosinophilic gastroenteritis in an 18-year-old patient with prolonged nephrotic syndrome who presented with abdominal pain and peripheral hypereosinophilia. During the previous 2 years, he had visited local Emergency Department several times because of epigastric pain and nausea. He had been treated with steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome since 3 years of age. Tests ruled out allergic and parasitic disease etiologies. Gastroduodenoscopy with biopsy revealed marked eosinophilic infiltration in the duodenum. Renal biopsy findings indicated minimal change disease spectrum without eosinophilic infiltration. The oral deflazacort dosage was increased, and the patient was discharged after abdominal pain resolved. To our knowledge, this is the first report of eosinophilic gastroenteritis in a patient with minimal change disease.
