Romanization and Language Planning in Taiwan
Chiung, Wi-vun Taiffalo 대한언어학회 2001 언어학 Vol.9 No.1
Chiung, Wi-run Taiffalo. 2001. Romanization and Language Planningin Taiwan. The Linguistic Association, of Korea Journal 9(1), 15-43.Although Taiwan is currently a Hancha (Han characters)-dominated society, romanization was in fact the first writing system used in Taiwan. The first romanized orthography is the Sinkang manuscripts introduced by the Dutch missionaries in the first half of the seventeenth century. Thereafter, Han characters were imposed to Taiwan by the Sinitic Koxinga regime that followed in the second half of the seventeenth century. As the number of Han immigrants from China dramatically increased, Han characters gradually became the dominant writing system. At present, romanization for Mandarin Chinese is an auxiliary script simply used for transliteration purpose. As for Taiwanese romanization it is mainly used by particular groups, such as church followers and the Taiwanese writing circle. This paper provides readers an overall introduction to the history and current development of romanization in Taiwan from the perspectives of literacy and sociolinguistics.(The University of Texas at Arlington)
Evolutionary Approach for Traveling Salesperson Problem with Precedence Constraints
Chiung Moon(문치웅),YoungSu Yun(윤영수) 한국지능시스템학회 2007 한국지능시스템학회 학술발표 논문집 Vol.17 No.1
In this paper we suggest an efficient evolutionary approach based on topological sort techniques for precedence constrained TSPs. The determination of optimal sequence has much to offer to downstream project management and opens up new opportunities for supply chains and logistics. Experimental results show that the suggested approach is a good alternative to locate optimal solution for complicated precedence constrained sequencing as in optimization method for instance.

This paper analyzes the relationship between labor productivity and team performance by using the National Football League (NFL) data between 1994-1995 and 2008-2009 seasons. In order to do this, we collect statistical data from two major web-sites as of nfl.com and pro-football-reference.com, and utilize a methodology of Poisson regression model because we have count data. The dependent variable is a winning percentage and independent variables are player performance in offense and defense indicating labor productivity. From the empirical analysis, we found the number of independent variables has positive impacts on team performance. Thus, we can conclude that there exists a positive relationship between labor productivity and team (organizational) performance. In addition, we can conclude that the quarterback`s performance is a statistically significant determinant of team performance.
A Comparison of Elder Suicide Between Taiwan and the United States
Chiung Ya Tang 한국노인복지학회 2003 International Journal of Welfare for the Aged Vol.9 No.-
The improvement of medical science extends human life but seems unable to intensify satisfaction in later life. Having an increasing elder population, both Taiwan and United States are also confronting an increasing elder suicide incidence. By acquire the knowledge about elder suicide based on each culture context, the present study aims to draw suggestions for both Taiwan and United States to be advantageous from each other. Feeling loneliness and lacking family support are the most dominant reasons of elder suicide in Taiwan, whereas in America, the most prevalent reason is to solve difficulties caused by illness or the feeling of lose. The different rationales between these two countries indicated that the family centered thoughts do shape the elder suicide behavior in Taiwan being different from that in America, which is influenced by individualism. Finally, learning from elder institution in America and enrich family interaction are suggestions for Taiwan and Unite States respectively.
Study on Cellar Behaviors on Different Nanostructures by Nanoporous Alumina Template
Chiung-Fang Huang,Yung-Kang Shen,Hsin-Chung Cheng,Yi Lin,Chih-Wei Wu 한국정밀공학회 2014 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.
Nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates are fabricated using an nodization method. The mean diameters of nanoporousanodic aluminum oxide templates are 100 nm and 200 nm by various processing parameters of the anodization method. A moldedplastic thin film nanostructure is fabricated by nanoimprinting using the AAO template as a mold insert. The surface properties ofthe molded plastic thin film are discussed using various nanoimprinting process parameters. Contact angles of the molded plastic thinfilm with the nanostructure exceed those without the nanostructure. The molded plastic thin films with a nanostructure and ahydrophobic surface are formed, and their contact angles exceed 90o. This study observes the behavior of osteoblast-like cells (MG63)cultured on nanostructure thin films, i.e., AAO, polylactic acid (PLA) and polycarbonate (PC). Cell growth behavior indicates thatthe AAO template with a 200 nm nanostructure is best. This study shows that cell adhesion and spreading are influenced by surfacetopography in the nanometer feature.

A 28-year-old female with a 1-year history of ketamine abuse developed ketamine-associated urinary symptoms that were refractory to conservative treatment after the complete cessation of ketamine use. Smooth voiding with increased bladder capacity and minimal postvoid residual urine volume were achieved by performing an augmentation enterocystoplasty. An uneventful pregnancy with the vaginal delivery of a healthy baby occurred postoperatively.
Government Expenditures in China and Taiwan : Do They Follow Wagner's Law?
Chiung-Ju Huang 중앙대학교 경제연구소 2006 Journal of Economic Development Vol.31 No.2
This paper tests Wagner’s Law for China and Taiwan, using annual time series data covering the period 1979-2002. To estimate the long-run relationship between government expenditures and output, we use a robust estimation method known as the Bounds Test based on Unrestricted Error Correction Model (UECM) estimation (Pesaran et al. (2001)). Empirical results from the Bounds Test indicate that there exists no long-run relationship between government expenditures and output in China and Taiwan. Furthermore, Toda and Yamamoto’s (1995) Granger non-causality test results also show that Wagner’s Law does not hold for China and Taiwan over this same period.
