Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Algorithm for Pitch Control of Variable-speed Wind Turbine

        Aamer Bilal Asghar,Khazina Naveed,Gang Xiong,Yong Wang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.11

With increasing size of wind turbines (WTs), the power regulation and fatigue loads on WT structures emerge as major problems to wind power industry. Pitch angle is scheduled above the rated wind speed to keep the power captured by variable-speed wind turbine (VSWT) around its rated value and release the fatigue load on WT structure. In this paper, a hybrid intelligent learning based adaptive neuro-fuzzy algorithm is proposed to schedule the pitch angle of 2 Megawatt (MW) VSWT. The artificial neural network (ANN) trains the parameters of fuzzy membership functions (MFs) using least squares estimator method in forward pass and back propagation gradient descent method in backward pass. The simulation is done in MATLAB and results are compared with multilayer perceptron feed-forward neural network (MLPFFNN) and fuzzy logic-based pitch controllers. The results indicate the effectiveness of proposed neuro-fuzzy algorithm which outperforms the other two methods.

      • Breast Cancer: Major Risk Factors and Recent Developments in Treatment

Majeed, Wafa,Aslam, Bilal,Javed, Ijaz,Khaliq, Tanweer,Muhammad, Faqir,Ali, Asghar,Raza, Ahmad Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.8

Breast cancer is the most common in women worldwide, with some 5-10% of all cases due to inherited mutations of BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Obesity, hormone therapy and use of alcohol are possible causes and over-expression of leptin in adipose tissue may also play a role. Normally surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy allow a good prognosis where screening measures are in place. New hope in treatment measures include adjuvant therapy, neoadjuvant therapy, and introduction of mono-clonal antibodies and enzyme inhibitors.

Definition of Season in Animal Model Evaluation of NiIi-Ravi Buffaloes

        Khan, M.S.,Bhatti, S.A.,Asghar, A.A.,Chaudhary, M.A.,Bilal, M.Q. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1997 Animal Bioscience Vol.10 No.1

Data on 2,571 lactation records of Nili-Ravi buffaloes from four institutional herds and four field recording centers were analyzed under an animal model to see the effect of season definition on the error variance of the fitted model. Herd-year-season(HYS) was the main fixed effect along with permanent environment, breeding value and residuals as the random effects. All known relationships among the animals were considered. The error variance differed for various HYS combinations. It was minimum when then months were not grouped into seasons. The four or Five season scenarios were better than the two season scenarios. The average number of lactations represented in a HYS combination varied widely from 6 to 28. Very few subclasses for a given HYS combination warrants the use of fewer seasons for animal model evaluation of buffaloes.

Effect of Different Packaging Atmosphere on Microbiological Shelf Life, Physicochemical Attributes, and Sensory Characteristics of Chilled Poultry Fillets

        Kashif Nauman,Muhammad Hayat Jaspal,Bilal Asghar,Adeel Manzoor,Kumayl Hassan Akhtar,Usman Ali,Sher Ali,Jamal Nasir,Muhammad Sohaib,Iftikhar Hussain Badar 한국축산식품학회 2022 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.42 No.1

This trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of overwrap, vacuum, and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on poultry breast fillets' microbiological, biochemical shelf life and sensory attributes. The fillets were divided into 4 groups, and each of the treatments was replicated 3 times with 60 breast fillets. The first group was a control group with overwrap packaging; the second group was vacuum packed (VP); the third and fourth groups were MAP-1: 0% O2, 40% CO2, 60% N2, and MAP-2: 20% O2, 40% CO2, 40% N2. The microbiological and biochemical analyses were performed for the total viable count, coliform count, Pseudomonas count, Salmonella count, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), pH, cooking loss, color, lipid oxidation, tenderness, and sensory analysis. The data were analysed through two-way ANOVA by Minitab (Minitab 17.3.1). Meat treated with understudy MAP compositions and vacuum packaging reduced total viable count, Pseudomonas count, and total coliform count than control (p<0.05). TVB-N remained below the recommended limit throughout storage except aerobic packaging (p<0.05). Cooking loss (%) was lowered and showed non-significant results (p>0.05) between vacuum packaging and both MAP concentrations. The meat stored in MAP-2 was characterised by higher (p<0.05) visual scores. Whilst MAP-1 showed higher (p<0.05) L* values and overall acceptability. Sample packaged under aerobic packaging showed significant (p<0.05) results for b* and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). Meat stored in aerobic packaging showed higher (p<0.05) shear force values. The outcome of this trial may help to promote the application of understudy MAP compositions and rapid detection of microbes by biochemical analysis under local conditions.

Performance evaluation of novel solarpowered domestic air cooler with Peltier modules

        Zafar Abbas,A. N. Shah,M. Tahir Hassan,M. Sarfraz Ali,Qamar ud Din,Bilal Naseem,Ammar Asghar,Ali Haider 대한기계학회 2020 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.11

Shifting of air conditioning and ventilation plants from conventional to renewable energy systems is one of the effective ways to save energy and attain sustainability. In this experimental study, an effort has been made to design, fabricate, and evaluate the cooling performance of a solar-powered domestic air cooler with Peltier plates to meet the comfort criteria as per ASHRAE standards. It also investigates the effect of Peltier modules on the performance of conventional room air cooler. The experiments were conducted in a 12x12 room with one, two, three, and four Peltier modules operating at various ambient temperatures. The experiments were repeated three times at specified conditions. Peltier effect was used to decrease water temperature, and subsequently cooled water was used to decrease the temperature of the air after coming in contact with this water. The cooled air was then used to create a comfort zone. The results indicated a decrease in temperature of the experimental zone by 5 %, 13 %, 19 %, and 23 % using one, two, three, and four Peltier modules respectively. The increase in relative humidity was recorded as 5 % at 27 °C temperature of the experimental zone. The results of energy analysis showed a substantial amount of energy savings in this study and suggest that more than 200 MW energy can be saved by replacing conventional electric air coolers all over the country with proposed Peltier based domestic solar powered air cooler.
