The present study makes an investigation into expression of genes related to cardiac development in chicken, quail and chicken-quail hybrids during the early stage of embryogenesis. Real-time PCR was used to detect mRNA expressions of Nkx2-5, GATA4 and TBX5 in the heart of chicken, quail and chicken-quail hybrids embryos during the 3rd to 7th days of incubation. Results showed that NKX2-5 mRNA displayed a similar expression trend in chicken, quail and chicken-quail hybrids. The initial and highest expression of Nkx2-5 was focused on the 3rd day of incubation, then it declined till 5th day of incubation, thereafter, it fluctuated. Expression of Nkx2-5 gene in quail was significantly higher than in chicken and chicken-quail hybrids, and no significant difference was observed between the two latter species. GATA4 mRNA showed a similar expression trend between chicken and quail, which displayed a steady increase from 3rd to 6th d, then, the expression level decreased. However, GATA4 mRNA expression in chicken-quail hybrids was significantly higher than that in chicken and quail from 3rd to 5th d (p<0.01), but significantly lower than that in chicken and quail during the later stage of the experiment (p<0.05), due to the dramatic drop from 5th d onwards (p<0.01). TBX5 mRNA expression in chicken and quail showed the same trend as GATA4 expressed in the two species. Furthermore, TBX5 expression in chicken-quail hybrids was significantly higher than that in chicken and quail during the whole course of experiment, although relatively lower TBX5 expression was detected in the early stage. In conclusion, Nkx2-5, GATA4 and TBX5 genes showed dynamic changes during the process of cardiac development in chicken, quail and their hybrids embryos. In addition, the expression trend in chicken was similar to that in quail, and there was no significant difference for gene expression level, except NKX2-5. However, expression of these genes in chicken-quail hybrids was significantly different from their parents, the difference mechanism needs to be further explored.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the axial bearing capacity and residual properties of steel reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (SRC) column after elevated temperature. A total of 48 SRC columns were designed for the static loading test after elevated temperature. The variables include replacement ratios, designed temperature, target duration, thicknesses of cover concrete, steel ratios and stirrup spacing. From this test, the mass loss ratio and stress load-deformation curve were obtained, and the influence of various parameters on residual bearing capacity were analyzed. ABAQUS was used to calculate the temperature field of specimens, and then got temperature damage distribution on the cross-section concrete. It was shown that increasing of the elevated temperatures leaded to the change of concrete color from smoky-gray to grayish brown and results in reducing the bearing capacity of SRC columns. The axial damage and mechanism of SRC columns were similar to those of reinforced natural aggregate concrete columns at the same temperatures. Finally, the calculation method of axial compressive residual bearing capacity of SRC columns recycled concrete columns after high temperature was reported based on the test results and finite element analysis.
Bond behavior between circular steel tube and high-strength concrete after elevated temperatures

In this paper, bond-slip behavior of high strength concrete filled circular steel tube (HSCFCST) after elevated temperatures treatment was studied. 17 specimens were designed for push-out test. The influence was discussed as following parameters: (a) concrete strength, (b) constant temperature, and (c) bond length. The results showed that (1) after elevated temperatures treatment, the bond strength of the HSCFCST specimens increased first and then decreased with temperature rising; (2) the bond strength increased with the increase of concrete strength at room temperature, while the influence subsided after elevated temperatures treatment; (3) the strain of the circular steel tube was distributed exponentially along its length, the stress changed from exponential distribution to uniform distribution with the increase of load; (4) the bond damage process was postponed with the increase of constant temperature; and (5) the energy consumption capacity of the bonding interface increased with the rise of concrete strength and constant temperature. Moreover, computational formulas of ultimate and residual bond strength were obtained by regression, and the bond-slip constitutive models of HSCFCSTs after elevated temperatures was established.
MMC‑modified sub‑module structure with double reverse blocking IGBTs

In high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, among the voltage source converters (VSCs), the modular multilevel converter (MMC) is a popular choice for power transmission. Unfortunately, the conventional half-bridge sub-module (SM) cannot deal with DC faults by itself. Thus, improved SM topologies enabling DC fault ride-through are significant. With this in mind, an MMC-modified SM structure is presented with double reverse blocking IGBTs (DRBSM). When all of the IGBTs in an MMC are blocked, the DRBSM can insert two capacitors in series to the fault circuit to rapidly overcome the DC fault. First, the DRBSM topology and working principle are analyzed. Second, the DRBSM control strategy is illustrated. Third, the device withstand voltage, DC fault ride-through, cost, and loss performance of the DRBSM are presented in detail. Finally, according to simulation results, the DRBSM fault ride-through speed is shown to be as fast as the full-bridge SM, and faster than the clamp double SM. In addition, experimental results validate the feasibility of the proposed DRBSM structure.
New teleomorph combinations in the entomopathogenic genus <i>Metacordyceps</i>

<P>The genus Metacordyceps contains arthropod pathogens in Clavicipitaceae (Hypocreales) that formerly were classified in Cordyceps sensu Kobayasi et Mains. Of the current arthropod pathogenic genera of Hypocreales, the genus Metacordyceps remains one of the most poorly understood and contains a number of teleomorphic morphologies convergent with species of Cordyceps s.s. (Cordycipitaceae) and Ophiocordyceps (Ophiocordycipitaceae). Of note, the anamorph genera Metarhizium and Pochonia were found to be associated only with Metacordyceps and demonstrated to be phylogenetically informative for the clade. Several species of Cordyceps considered to have uncertain placements (incertae sedis) in the current taxonomic framework of clavicipitoid fungi were collected during field expeditions mostly in eastern Asia. Species reclassified here in Metacordyceps include Cordyceps atrovirens Kobayasi & Shimizu, Cordyceps indigotica Kobayasi & Shimizu, Cordyceps khaoyaiensis Hywel-Jones, Cordyceps kusanagiensis Kobayasi & Shimizu, Cordyceps martialis Speg., Ophiocordyceps owariensis Kobayasi, Cordyceps pseudoatrovirens Kobayasi & Shimizu and Ophicordyceps owariensis f. viridescens (Uchiy. & Udagawa) G.H. Sung, J.M. Sung, Hywel-Jones & Spatafora. Incorporation of these species in a multigene phylogenetic framework of the major clades of clavicipitoid fungi more than doubled the number of species in Metacordyceps and allowed for refinement of morphological concepts for the genus consistent with the phylogenetic structure. Based on these findings we then discuss evolution of this genus, subgeneric relationships, anamorph connections, and suggest additional species that should be confirmed for possible inclusion in Metacordyceps.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) AOD and Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) AOD data were assimilated to forecast surface PM<SUB>2.5</SUB> concentrations over Eastern China, by using the three–dimensional variational (3DAVR) data assimilation (DA) system, to compare DA impacts by assimilating AOD retrievals from these two types of satellites. Three experiments were conducted, including a CONTROL without the AOD assimilation, and GOCIDA and VIIRSDA with the assimilation of AOD retrievals from GOCI and VIIRS, respectively. By utilizing the Weather Research and Forecasting with Chemistry (WRF/Chem) model, 48-h forecasts were initialized at each 06 UTC from 19 November to 06 December 2013. These forecasts were evaluated with 248 ground-based measurements from the air quality monitoring network across 67 China cities. The results show that overall the CONTROL underestimated surface PM<SUB>2.5</SUB> concentrations, especially over Jing–Jin–Ji (JJJ) region and Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region. Both the GOCIDA and VIIRSDA produced higher surface PM<SUB>2.5</SUB> concentrations mainly over Eastern China, which fits well with the PM<SUB>2.5</SUB> measurements at these eastern sites, with more than 8% error reductions (ER). Moreover, compared to CONTROL, GOCIDA reduced 14.0% and 6.4% error on JJJ region and YRD region, respectively, while VIIRSDA reduced respectively 2.0% and 13.4% error over the corresponding areas. During the heavy polluted period, VIIRSDA improved all sites within YRD region, and GOCIDA enhanced 84% sites. Meanwhile, GOCIDA improved 84% sites on JJJ region, while VIIRSDA did not affect that region. These geographic distinctions might result from spatial dissimilarity between GOCI AOD and VIIRS AOD at time intervals. Moreover, the larger increment produced by AOD DA under stable meteorological conditions could lead to a longer duration (e.g., 1–2 days, > 2 days) of AOD DA impacts. Even though with AOD DA, surface PM<SUB>2.5</SUB> concentrations were still underestimated clearly over heavy polluted periods. And 3% sites performed worse, where low PM<SUB>2.5</SUB> values were observed and CONTROL performed well. With this study, the results indicate that AOD DA can partially improve the accuracy of PM<SUB>2.5</SUB> forecasts. And the obvious geographic differences on forecasts emphasize the potential and importance of combining AOD retrievals from GOCI and VIIRS into data assimilation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> AOD retrievals from two types of satellites were assimilated solely. </LI> <LI> Assimilating different AOD produced prominent geographic differences on forecast. </LI> <LI> Larger increment under stable meteorological conditions lead to a longer duration. </LI> <LI> The results emphasize the potential of combining different AOD retrievals. </LI> </UL> </P>
