Nanoparticles Modified With Cationic Thiol Surfactant as Efficient Inhibitors for the Corrosion of Carbon Steel

Azzam, Eid M.S.,Sami, Radwa M.,Alenezi, Khalaf M.,El Moll, Hani,Haque, A. The Korean Electrochemical Society 2021 Journal of electrochemical science and technology Vol.12 No.3

In this work, we report synthesis, characterization and corrosion inhibition properties of cationic thiol surfactant-capped silver (SC-Ag-NPs) and gold (SC-Au-NPs) nanoparticles. SC-Ag-NPs and SC-Au-NPs were characterized using regular techniques include TEM. Corrosion study was carried out using carbon steel (CS) in 3.5% NaCl aqueous solution and characterized using multiple electrochemical techniques. Our results suggest that the paint containing SC-Ag-NPs and SC-Au-NPs endow efficient corrosion protection to the CS. Especially, SC-Au-NPs based paint form a stronger barrier between the metal and the corrosive ions, leading to better inhibition properties.

Inhibition of Human Amylin Aggregation and Cellular Toxicity by Lipoic Acid and Ascorbic Acid

        Azzam, Sarah Kassem,Jang, Hyunwoo,Choi, Myung Chul,Alsafar, Habiba,Lukman, Suryani,Lee, Sungmun American Chemical Society 2018 MOLECULAR PHARMACEUTICS Vol.15 No.6

More than 30 human degenerative diseases result from protein aggregation such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Islet amyloid deposits, a hallmark in T2DM, are found in pancreatic islets of more than 90% of T2DM patients. An association between amylin aggregation and reduction in β-cell mass was also established by post-mortem studies. A strategy in preventing protein aggregation-related disorders is to inhibit the protein aggregation and associated toxicity. In this study, we demonstrated that two inhibitors, lipoic acid and ascorbic acid, significantly inhibited amylin aggregation. Compared to amylin (15 μM) as 100%, lipoic acid and ascorbic acid reduced amylin fibril formation to 42.1 ± 17.2% and 42.9 ± 12.8%, respectively, which is confirmed by fluorescence and TEM images. In cell viability tests, both inhibitors protected RIN-m5f β-cells from the toxicity of amylin aggregates. At 10:1 molar ratio of lipoic acid to amylin, lipoic acid with amylin increased the cell viability to 70.3%, whereas only 42.8% RIN-m5f β-cells survived in amylin aggregates. For ascorbic acid, an equimolar ratio achieved the highest cell viability of 63.3% as compared to 42.8% with amylin aggregates only. Docking results showed that lipoic acid and ascorbic acid physically interact with amylin amyloidogenic region (residues Ser20-Ser29) via hydrophobic interactions; hence reducing aggregation levels. Therefore, lipoic acid and ascorbic acid prevented amylin aggregation via hydrophobic interactions, which resulted in the prevention of cell toxicity in vitro.
[FIG OMISSION]

Image Clustering using Color, Texture and Shape Features

        ( Azzam Sleit ),( Abdel Latif Abu Dalhoum ),( Mohammad Qatawneh ),( Maryam Al-sharief ),( Rawa`a Al-jabaly ),( Ola Karajeh ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2011 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.5 No.1

Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is an approach for retrieving similar images from an image database based on automatically-derived image features. The quality of a retrieval system depends on the features used to describe image content. In this paper, we propose an image clustering system that takes a database of images as input and clusters them using k-means clustering algorithm taking into consideration color, texture and shape features. Experimental results show that the combination of the three features brings about higher values of accuracy and precision.

The Effect of Digital Marketing on Purchasing Decisions: A Case Study in Jordan

Abdel Fattah AL-AZZAM,Khaled AL-MIZEED 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.5

The main objective of this research was to analyze the influence of digital marketing on purchasing decisions. The research was guided by specific aims; to evaluate numerous digital marketing platforms in Jordan that can affect the purchasing decisions and identify product categories purchased by customers on digital media platforms. Furthermore, questionnaires were given based on a simple sampling technique and acquired in the Jordanian market. 300 questionnaires were distributed, and 220 available samples were gathered, except for incomplete questionnaires, resulting in a 73% response rate to all those who selected to participate. Descriptive analysis, reliability test, correlation test, and multiple regressions were used in this research. Moreover, this study’s results demonstrated that digital marketing, such as social media marketing and mobile marketing, has a profound impact on consumer purchasing decisions. However, hypothesis testing demonstrated that there are many patronized digital media platforms in Jordan that affect student behavior. Jordanian students buy various product categories on digital media platforms, and digital marketing affects student decision–making. Finally, the results of this study suggest that firms should adopt strategies to leverage the digital world and technology, increase brand awareness through digital platforms to continue competing in today’s commercial environment.

Enhancement the detection of Ni2+ and Zn2+ ions using nanostructure of synthesized dithiol surfactants with gold nanoparticles

        E.M.S. Azzam,A.F.M. El-Farargy,Ali A. Abd-Elaal 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.5

Here in, the nanostructure of dithiol surfactants were synthesized with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The nanostructure of these surfactants was investigated using FTIR, UV, XRD, and TEM techniques. The surfactants under investigation show good ability for assembling on AuNPs. The alkyl chain length shows strong effect on the stabilization of the nanostructure of these surfactants. The detection of Ni2+ and Zn2+ ions in water solution was investigated using UV spectrophotometer. The data show that the sensitivity of the nanostructure of surfactants towards the detection of Ni2+ and Zn2+ ions is more than that of the individual surfactants.

Effects of ultraviolet radiation on Culex quinquefasciatus immature stages

        Munawar Kashif,Alahmed Azzam M.,Khalil Sayed M.S. 한국곤충학회 2021 Entomological Research Vol.51 No.3

Ultraviolet radiation has negative effects on different living organisms. The effects of ultraviolet radiation have been widely studied on some insects, such as stored-product pests. However, few studies have examined the effects of ultraviolet radiation on mosquitoes. In this study, we report the effect of ultraviolet radiation type C, or ultraviolet C, on the immature stages of Culex quinquefasciatus. Our results suggest that early larval instars were more susceptible to ultraviolet C than late instars, and longer ultraviolet C exposure times were more lethal to larvae regardless of age. Ultraviolet C caused 100% mortality in pupae after 11 minutes of exposure. No egg hatching was observed after 15 minutes of exposure. Mortality in immature stages occurred over time, especially during larval molting and adult emergence.

Uplift Capacity of Single Pile Embedded in Partially Submerged Sand

        A. Basha,W. R. Azzam 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.12

This article illustrates experimentally the effect of the groundwater level rising on the soil pile interaction under uplift load. A series of model test for piles embedded in partially submerged sand along pile depth under pull out loads were carried out. A rigid steel cylindrical cell measuring 315 mm inside diameter with 850 mm high was used as a sand container. Investigations were done by varying parameters as the ratio between groundwater height to embedded pile length (hw/L), pile stiffness (L/D), installation method and sand density. Results showed that there is a considerable decrease in the uplift capacity of the piles due to increase in the groundwater level. It has been found that the variation of the submerged pile length ratio from 0 % to 100 % leads to decrease in the uplift capacity as much as 60% of its initial value in dry condition.

Enhanced Authentication System Performance Based on Keystroke Dynamics using Classification algorithms

( Asma Salem ),( Ahmad Sharieh ),( Azzam Sleit ),( Riad Jabri ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.8

Nowadays, most users access internet through mobile applications. The common way to authenticate users through websites forms is using passwords; while they are efficient procedures, they are subject to guessed or forgotten and many other problems. Additional multi modal authentication procedures are needed to improve the security. Behavioral authentication is a way to authenticate people based on their typing behavior. It is used as a second factor authentication technique beside the passwords that will strength the authentication effectively. Keystroke dynamic rhythm is one of these behavioral authentication methods. Keystroke dynamics relies on a combination of features that are extracted and processed from typing behavior of users on the touched screen and smart mobile users. This Research presents a novel analysis in the keystroke dynamic authentication field using two features categories: timing and no timing combined features. The proposed model achieved lower error rate of false acceptance rate with 0.1%, false rejection rate with 0.8%, and equal error rate with 0.45%. A comparison in the performance measures is also given for multiple datasets collected in purpose to this research.
