        한약재중 중금속 분석의 정도관리에 관한 연구

        Control measures for the analysis of toxic compounds such as metals, and sulfur dioxide should be developed to assure the safety of herbal medicines. Various herbal medicine was properly selected and analysed by KFDA and other methods. Samples either prepared by microwave or hot plate digestions were analysed by AA (either flame or furnace), ICP, and/or ICP-MS. Method detection limits for various metals and methods were reviewed based on applicability of these methods on the equivalency of KFDA methods. Proper quality control criteria for matrix spike recoveries (accuracy indicator) will be 70∼130% for metal analysis in herbal medicine. Relative errors expressed in relative percent difference for duplicate analysis (precision indicator) will be 15% for the same analysis. Laboratories for herbal medicine analysis can produce and report reliable data by implementing proper standardized quality control (QC) measures.

        울주군에서 발생한 장출혈성대장균 감염증의 발생 원인

        Objectives : Two related cases of Hemolytic-Uremic Syndrome (HUS) were reported to the Korea National Institute of Health in May, 2001. Shiga toxin 2 genes were detected in both stool samples. We suspected an enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) infection as the cause of the HUS, and conducted an investigation to find the source of the infection and its route of transmission. Methods : We peformed case investigations on these two related HUS cases, and obtained interviews and rectal swabs form the family members and other close contacts. Additionally, we peformed rectal swabs on the cattle raised by the household of the index patient. Results : We found a 20 month old index patient and a 6 year-old cousin had developed HUS, where there had been a 2 day history of contact with the index, and bacteriological examinations for these two patients revealed, indistinguishably, the same E. coli O171. The grandmother of the index patient was found to be asymptomatic, but E. coli O26 was isolated. We also found a probable case in the mother of the cousin. She reported a history of contact with the index, and developed bloody diarrhea of 3 days duration. The test results for the cattle revealed E. coli O26 in one cow, and E. coli O26 and O55 in another. E. coli O26, which was isolated in both cows and the grandmother of the index, were indistinguishably the same. Conclusions : We found that the E. coli O26 in the grandmother had originated from the cows, and that the E. coli O171 found in the index patient had been transmitted to the cousin through person-to-person contact.

        앉은 자세에서 불안정한 접촉면을 이용한 어깨뼈 내밈 운동이 위 그리고 아래 앞톱니근 활성화에 미치는 영향

        Background: The scapulo-thoracic musculatures including serratus anterior (SA), upper tra-pezius and lower trapezius can provide shoulder stability and functional shoulder movement. Objects: The muscle activities of upper and lower SA were compared during three different scapular protraction exercises in healthy individuals in sitting position. Methods: Twenty-five healthy subjects were participated. Electromyography device was used to measure muscle activity of upper and lower SA and trapezius muscles. Each subject was asked to perform three different scapular protraction exercises (scapular protraction [SP], SP with self-resistance [SPSR], SPSR with hand-exerciser [SPSRH]) in random order. One-way re-peated measures analysis of the variance and a Bonferroni post hoc test were used. Results: The muscle activity of lower SA muscle was significantly different among three con-ditions (SP vs. SPSR vs. SPSRH) (p < 0.01). The lower SA muscle activity was significantly greater during SPSRH compared to SP and SPSR, which required joint stability more than SP and SPSR (p < 0.01). Conclusion: SPSRH exercise can be recommended to facilitate the muscle activity of lower SA. In addition, the intramuscular variation in the upper and lower SA during scapular protrac-tion exercise is required to consider the effective rehabilitation.
