This paper presents the geophysical applications to the environmenml problem in an abandoned mine area. We would like to focus our attention on the mapping of the soil contamination and the detection of the buried mine tailings. For mapping the soil contamination. measurements of both in-situ magnetic susceptibility (k) and terrain conductivity were carried out. In-situ magnetic susceptibilities of the contaminated soil due to the acid mine drainage show higher values than those of the uncontaminated area. However. those data do not show the correlation with the degree of the soil contamination observed on the surface. The least-squares fitted formula obtained with the measured insitu magnetic susceptibilities is $k=4.8207{\times}W^{0.6332}$, where W is the $Fe^{+2}$ weight percentage. This weight gives most effect to magnetic susceptibility of the soil. Lateral variations of the soil contamination in the shallow subsurface can be detected by the electrical conductivity distributions from EM induction survey. TDIP (Time Domain Induced Polarization) and EM induction surveys were conducted to detect the buried mine tailings. From the results of TDIP, the spatial zone, which shows high chargeability-low resistivity, is interpreted as the buried mine tailings. Therefore, it is concluded that it is possible to discriminate the spatial zone from the uncontaminated ground.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of physical expression activities connected to dancing appreciation on self-control ability and prosocial behavior of young children. The subjects in this study were 41 5-year-old children enrolled in two kindergartens located in O-san city. The experimental group practiced physical expression activities connected to dancing appreciation for 8 weeks and the control group participated in the general kindergarten curriculum. The results of this study using SPSS 14.0 were as follows: First, the physical expression activities connected to dancing appreciation improved children`s self-control abilities(self-control, impulse control, and attention concentration). Second, the physical expression activities connected to dancing appreciation improved children`s prosocial behaviors(leadership, helping, communication, initiative-concern, proximity, sharing, empathy. and control). Through the physical expression activities connected to dancing appreciation, children could control their emotions, focus on basic dance movements, and solve conflict situations. This study shows that the physical expression activities connected to dancing appreciation is an effective way to improve self-control ability and prosocial behavior of young children.

This paper is concerned with the analysis of structural equation model(SEM) with the ordinal data such as Likert scale. The SEM is misused when the arbitrary scores allocated to the Likert scale are treated as quantitative data. The underlying distribution approaches have been studied to solve this problem, and the partial least squares(PLS) is also tried. In this paper the quantification methods for the Likert scale are proposed to analyze the SEM. We assume that the Likert scale is an observation of the interval of the continuous underlying distribution, and the respondents have their own patterns in the response of some questions. Normal and beta distributions as the response patterns are considered to quantify the Likert scale. To compare the efficiency of the proposed method the bootstrap simulations are tried.
A Study for Multicollinearity in Multiple Regression Analysis

Multiple regression analysis is a widely used statistical method which utilizes the statistical relation between dependent variables and independent variables. One of general assumptions for the multiple regression is that independent variables should be uncorrlated. The independent variables, however, tend to be correlated in many situations. So, multicollinearity is said to exist if independent variables are highly corrlated among themselves. In this paper, we will study a variety of problems created by multicollinearity. At first, we consider a few effects of multicollinearity and various diagnostic tools of indentifying multicollinearity. Lastly, we consider two different types of remedial measure for severe multicollinearity. One is the methods that can be implemented with least squares, and the other is ridge regression which is a overcoming method by modifying the least squares method.
