Series expansion is applied to solve the laminar boundary layer equations for the problem of natural convection from vertical cylinder with uniform surface heat flux. The series in terms of transverse curvature parameter ${\xi}$ is extended to five terms and is well converged by applying the Shanks transform twice. In case of natural convection from a vertical cylinder heated with uniform surface heat flux, it is possible to consider the vertical cylinder as vertical plate under the condition of D/L${\geq}$A/$(Gr_L^*)^{1/5}$, where A is in the range of 5.7~55.2. Also, mean Nusselt number ${\overline{Nu_L}}$ can be represented as $C_1(Ra_L^*)^{1/5}$, where $C_1$ is a constant which depends on Pr and is in the range of 0.5~0.8.

Flow and heat transfer characteristics of mixed convection heat transfer in a rectangular en-closure with various outlets are numerically investigated. The parameters considered here include Reynolds number, Grashof number and the position of outlet. The results show streamlines, isotherms, Nusselt numbers, velocity and temperature distributions. It has been shown that as Reynolds number increases, the size of cell decreases at Re$\leq$100 and increases at Re>100 for $Gr=10^4$. There is a minimum size of cells at Re=100, $Gr=10^4$. The maximum mean Nusselt number occurs at Re=400, $Gr=10^4$ and one right outlet. The mean Nusselt numbers can be formulated by the correlation equation $Nu=C{\cdot}Gr^a{\cdot}Re^b$.

Steady laminar natural convection heat transfer from an isothermal square beam with adiabatic wall has been studied for various inclination angles of the wall and Rayleigh numbers by using Mach-Zehnder Interferometer in air. The different temperature and fluid fields were obtained as the inclination angle changes showing the effects of the ascending heated fluid and the adiabatic wall. The maximum total mean Nusselt number was found at ${\theta}=45^{\circ}$.

A flow field in a model flash evaporation chamber with Wall Jet Inlet Boundary Condition is investigated experimentally by PLY measurement. The whole field fluid flow velocity vectors in the chamber were measured using a particle image velocimetry(PIV) system to study the effects of main flow parameters such as baffle height and flow rate on flow patterns. The results show that a large recirculation region with several vortices embedded would be generated at a higher water level.

A flow field around submerged vertical plate is investigated experimentally. Vortices are generated at the tip of each side of the plate. The largest vortices at each side of the plate eventually grow to the size of the water depth. The vortex shedding process can be divided into three phases: the formation of a separated shear layer, the generation and shedding of vortices, the formation of a vortex, and the impingement onto the upper flow.

밑면이 가열되고 다양한 격판을 가진 실내공간에서의 혼합대류 열전달을 유한체적법을 사용하여 연구하였다. 본 연구에서 사용된 변수는 50<Re<2000, 1460<Gr<11585 그리고 격판의 수와 길이이다. 연구 결과 변수들에 따른 유동 패턴과 등온선의 결과를 제시하였다. 실내의 대류유동은 격판의 수 그리고 길이가 증가하면서 현저히 감소되었으며 평균 Nusselt수는[수식참조]로 나타낼 수 있다. 여기서 /NU_n는 순수 자연대류를 나타낸다. The study of mixed convection in a room with heated bottom surface and various partitions has been numerically investigated using a finite volume method. The parameters studied here are, 50< Re <2000, 1460 < Gr < 11585 and the partition numbers and lengths. The results of the flow patterns and isotherms have been represented for various parameters. The room air convection decreases apparently as the number of partition increases. The mean Nusselt number can be expressed as[수식참조], where /NU_n corresponds to pure natural convextion.

An experimental flow visualization study of the entrance section of channels formed with wavy plates was made. The experiments were conducted in a water channel and a laser illuminated particle tracking was used as the technique of flow visualization. The flow region that were found in the experiments are steady, unsteady and significantly-mixed flows. Instabilities of the flow first appear near the exit of the channel. As the Reynolds number increases, the flows are characterized by the appearance of flow separation and the growth of recirculation region.
