        Pediatric laparoscopic appendectomy is controversial particularly in complicated appendicitis. We evaluated the outcomes of laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) and open appendectomy (OA) in simple appendicitis and complicated appendicitis respectively. Since June 2004, initial LA has been our policy in all appendicitis including complicated ones. A total of 160 patients were included in this study, consisting of 80 OA (August 2001 - August 2003) and 80 LA (June 2004 - June 2006). We compared the operating time, the length of hospital stay, the length of antibiotics use, and the postoperative complications between LA and OA. In simple appendicitis (73), there were no differences between LA and OA. However in the 87 patients with complicated appendicitis, the operating time was longer in LA (64.8 min vs. 50.2 min) but the length of hospital stay was shorter in LA than OA (8.5 days vs. 9.6 days). There was one complication in simple appendicitis group and six in complicated appendicitis group (3 cases in LA, 3 cases in OA). There was no difference in the results of LA versus OA in simple appendicitis. Therefore for simple appendicitis, LA is recommended in consideration of the cosmetic effect (fewer scar). In complicated appendicitis, early discharge was an advantage and there were no differences in complications in LA despite a longer operative time. So we conclude LA can be considered as the first choice of treatment for all pediatric appendicitis including complicated appendicitis. To confirm our impressions, more well controlled randomized prospective studied need to be done.

        Protein Kinase C alpha Protects Against Multidrug Resistance in Human Colon Cancer Cells

        Multidrug resistance is the phenomenon by which, after exposure to a single chemotherapeutic agent, cancer cells evade the agent’s cytotoxic effects as well as become resistant to several classes of diverse drugs. ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are a family of transporter proteins that contribute to drug resistance via an ATP-dependent drug efflux pump. P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is a prominent ABC superfamily protein encoded by the mdr gene which has the ability to mediate the cellular extrusion of xenobiotics and anticancer drugs from tumor cells. Exclusively expressed P-gp cells from the human colon cancer HCT15/DOX line showed resistance to doxorubicin while parental HCT15 cells treated with doxorubicin displayed typical signs of apoptosis. In order to verify the hypothesis that expression of MDR is controlled in part, by protein kinase C (PKC), expression patterns of different PKC isoforms were examined in both cell lines. Of the PKC isoforms evaluated, the membrane translocation and expression levels of PKC were strikingly increased in HCT15/ DOX cells. PKC reversed doxorubicin-induced apoptosis through the scavenging of ROS as well as inhibition of PARP cleavage. In addition, inhibition of PKC with Go6976, a specific inhibitor of classical PKC, led to reduced MDR expression and increased doxorubicin-induced apoptosis. Knockdown of PKC by siRNA diminished the protective effects of PKC for doxorubicin-induced apoptosis. These results suggested that over-expression and activity of PKC is closely as-sociated with the regulation of the MDR phenotype in human colon cancer HCT15 cells and provided insight into a new strategy for inhibiting doxorubicin resistance in human cancers.

        SKH51/SM45C의 마찰용접특성에 관한 연구

        The present study examined the mechanical properties of the friction welding of shaft made of SKH51 and SM45C, of which the diameter is 12mm. Friction welding was done at welding conditions of 2,000rpm, friction pressure of 104MPa, upset pressure of 134MPa, friction time of 0.5sec to 2.5sec by increasing 0.5sec, upset time of 2 seconds. Under these conditions, a tensile test, a bending test, a shear test, a hardness test and a microstructure of weld interface were studied. When the friction time was 1.0 second under the conditions, the maximum tensile strength of the friction weld observed to be 963MPa, which is 89% the tensile strength of SKH51 base metal and 101% of the tensile strength of SM45C base metal. When the friction time was 1.0 seconds under the conditions, the maximum bending strength of the friction weld happened to be 1,647MPa, which is 78% the bending strength of SKH51 base metal(2,113MPa) and 87% of the bending strength of SM45C base metal(1,889MPa). When the friction time was 1.0 seconds under conditions, the maximum shear strength of the friction weld was observed to be 755MPa, which is 92% the shear strength of SKH51 base metal and 122% of the shear strength of SM45C base metal. According to the hardness test, the hardness distribution of the weld interface varied from Hv282 to Hv327. HAZ was formed from the weld interface to 1.2mm of SKH51 and 1.6mm of SM45C. Upon examination it was found that the microstructure became finer along with increase of friction revolution radius.

        SM20C 摩擦熔接部의 노치 깊이에 따른 機械的 性質 硏究

        The present study examined the mechanical properties of the friction welding zone of solid and hollow shafts made with SM20C according to the depth of the notch. Friction welding was conducted at welding conditions of 2,000 rpm, friction pressure of 60㎫, friction time of 1.4 seconds, upset pressure of 100㎫, and upset time of 2.0 seconds. In the tensile strength test, the tensile strength decreased as the depth of the notch increased. Tensile strength was moderately high when the depth of the notch was 2mm. The tensile strength of the welding zone increased as the friction revolution radius increased, because the latter led to the generation of adequate friction heat. According to the hardness test, hardness likewise increased as the friction revolution radius increased. In the bending test, the bend strength of the solid shaft decreased when the depth of the notch was 0-2㎜ but increased when the latter was 3-5㎜. With regard to the hollow shaft, the bend strength drastically decreased when the depth of the notch was 3-4㎜. Upon examination it was found that the microstructure became finer when the friction revolution radius increased.

        김원일의 <미망>과 천운영의 <명랑>과의 비교 - 인물간의 가족관계를 중심으로 -

        Although < A widow > by Kim Won-il and < Jocundity > by Chun Woon-young have a difference in the publishing year by twenty years, they have similarity in the main theme of conflicts and resolution among characters of each family and many other aspects such as compositions and types of characters. First of all, fathers do not exist in both families. A father in < A widow > is missing in the circumstance of the Korean War and a father in < Jocundity > does not exist by an accident. This absence gives rise to the mothers` resentment, who have a responsibility of living.This feeling causes conflicts with theirmothers-in-law in every single events. Second, both novels have similar antagonistic relationships and characteristics of mothers and grandmothers. In other words, grandmothers in < A widow > and in < Jocundity > have similar appearances, characteristics, tastes in food, and lifestyle; on the contrary to their mothers-in-law, two mothers` attitudes and lifestyle are analogous each other. In addition, aspects of grief from the absence of father are differently presented between grandmothers and mothers. The grandmothers undergo their agony by resigning themselves to their weak fate rather than by expressing their sorrow; on the other hand, the mothers have attitudes to overcome the reality to make a living by expressing their resentment to the grandmothers in the process of overcoming. Third, two novels end by the grandmothers` death. Reconciliation between the grandmother and the mother is described in the scene that the mother buys a cutlassfish, which is the grandmother`s favorite side dish, before the grandmother`s passing in < A widow >. On the other hand, the grandmother in < Jocundity > is pressed by a heap of earth to death and her bare feet emphasizes her lonely life. The mother`s pouring tears for the grandmother`s death reflect her deep affection toward the grandmother. The grandmothers` deaths have meaning more than sadness to their family. The meaning is delivered to their each grandson and granddaughter by keeping the grandmother`s worn-out card for Press Federation in < A widow > and the grandmother`s ashes in < Jocundity >. < A widow > describes conflicts and reconciliation among the family in the historic tragedy of the Korean War with the grandmother`s death and confrontation between the grandmother and the mother; on the other hand, Chun Woon-young`s < Jocundity > portrays the will of enduring hardship through solace and consolidation covering personal wound rather than their sympathy of sorrow from the historic experience. Even though the fateful relationship among family looks as if it became exacerbated under the facial reality, it connotes a sentiment of sympathy and comprehension about the historic wound deep inside and it reflects aesthetics of reconciliation and co-existence among family.

        레저스포츠 참여자의 레저태도, SNS몰입, 레저만족의 관계

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between leisure attitude and leisure satisfaction and demonstrate the mediating effect of SNS commitment. A total of 342 leisure sports participants were recruited for data collection. Frequency analysis, Confirmatory factor analysis, Reliability analysis, Correlation analysis, Mediated regression analysis were used with SPSS18.0. The results were as follow: Leisure sports participants’ SNS commitment was influenced by behavioral attitude. Leisure satisfaction were influenced by all the subfactors of leisure attitude(behavioral cognitive, affective attitude) and SNS commitment. Therefore, there was mediating role of SNS commitment between behavioral attitude and leisure satisfaction.

        SCNCrM-2B와 SM25C의 마찰용접특성에 관한 연구

        This study deals with the friction welding of SM25C and SCNCrM-2B; The friction time was variable conditions under the conditions of spindle revolution 2,000rpm, friction pressure of 100㎫, upset pressure of 150㎫, and upset time of 4.0 seconds. Under these conditions, the microstructure of weld interface, tensile fracture surface and mechanical tests were studied, and so the results were as follows. 1. When the friction time is 2.0 seconds, the tensile strength of friction welds was 874㎫, which is around as much as 117% of the tensile strength of base metal(SM25C), the bending strength of friction welds was 1,354㎫, which is around as much as 108.9% of the bending strength of base metal(SM25C). 2. At the same condition, the maximum vickers hardness was Hv443 at SCNCrM-2B nearby weld interface, which is higher Hv20 than condition of the friction time 0.5 seconds. 3. The results of microstructure analysis show that the structures of two base materials have fractionated and rearranged along a column due to heating and axial force during friction, which has affected in raising hardness and tensile strength.
