This study is to present the optimum alternative of application and design guidelines of a double-skin facade, which has recently been being dealt as a major issue in terms of reduction on energy load, focusing on a loss of cooling/heating energy caused by an indiscreet expansion of the balcony of apartment housing in Korea. This study especially find out an alternative for optimizing the relevant elements for reduction of energy load, focusing on the elements that should be considered in the early design stage among the various components of the double-skin facade, and present a design guideline for each element and an architectural application method according to the alternative.

The purpose of this study was to analyze concepts and design method of European urban housing as basic data for new housing develop models of our own city. The basis for this study is that our recent housing developments ignore urban order and fail to serve the vital residential environment. To advance this research, some European housing projects were selected as cases, and each case was analyzed and discussed in terms of relation with urban streets, pedestrian ways and adjacent buildings.

The bond of sympathy for energy saving has been long since formed in worldwide, but preparing practical measures for energy saving, especially countermeasures in construction field, is urgent, taking account of the current situation of country’s high reliance on foreign countries in energy consumption. This study is for an alternative plan to minimize indoor energy loss that can happen when a balcony area, faced to the south of living room integrated with kitchen area, is remodeled and expanded to livingroom area according to the residents’ requests to expand exclusive space; and looking for the way of optimization for the application of double-skin facade on the south windows and doors in livingroom. Especially, the objectives of this study are to select the elements of double-skin facade in construction planning prospect, which need to be considered in the initial design stage, and to propose design guidelines for the each element of double-skin facade that can be optimized to reduce energy load in indoor space according to the selection.
주거 외부 수공간 도입에 따른 실내 온열 환경 변화 분석

This study shows how the water space outside the housing impacts the indoor thermal environment. CFD simulation was used for this experiment to analyze the interior environment focusing on the effect of temperature control and the thermal comfort. A shape of perfect square, which creates the very basic space formation, was used and the simulation was processed looking at the size, distance, and the location of the water space. The results of the experiment are as follows. Firstly, introducing a water space with the same floor area size of the simulation model decreased the indoor temperature by 1 Celsius (3.72%). It was determined the interior environment was considered as a comfort zone when the water space was greater than 70% of the floor area. Secondly, there was not much influence to the level of thermal comfort of the interior environment when the distance to the water space from the housing was greater than 2 meters. Lastly, interpreting the location of water space, the effect of controlling the total areas' temperature was the greatest following with the surrounding of the formation. There barely was any change to the temperature considering the side and the rear of the area.
