A case of hemocholecyst associated with hemobilia following radiofrequency ablation therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is performed as an alternative to surgical resection for primary or secondary liver malignancies. Although RFA can be performed safely in most patients, early and late complications related to mechanical or thermal damage occur in 8-9.5% cases. Hemocholecyst, which refers to hemorrhage of the gallbladder, has been reported with primary gallbladder disease or as a secondary event associated with hemobilia. Hemobilia, defined as hemorrhage in the biliary tract and most commonly associated with accidental or iatrogenic trauma, is a rare complication of RFA. Here we report a case of hemocholecyst associated with hemobilia after RFA for hepatocellular carcinoma that was successfully managed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

This paper proposes a new account of the interpretation of tenses in English complement clauses by extending and revising Hans Reichenbach’s tense theory. English embedded tenses are not always interpreted relative to the matrix tense or the speech time, as Reichenbach originally proposed, and their interpretations are often affected by the speaker’s information and context. The seemingly-inconsistent interpretations of embedded tenses can be explained in a systematic way under the assumption that the reference time of the matrix clause is interpreted as the reference time of the embedded clause or its speech time. It is argued that the two reference times of a complex clause are not identical when the reference time of the embedded clause is determined by pragmatic factors such as previous discourse and conventional implicatures.

This study examines the Japanese performing groups’ activities in concurrence with the expansion of the Japanese imperial power, and their role in imperialism, focusing on Joseon and Taiwan in 1910. The activities of Japanese performing organizations in the colonies have been identified through various studies. Researchers in the history of performing arts have also recently drawn attention to the magic troupe Tenkatsu’s (天勝) group, which was noted in this paper. However, the trajectory of the Tenkatsu group indicates that they did not just secure and earn profits in the performance market, but also moved at the forefront of Japanese imperialist propaganda. Their performances were also considered “modern” and “educational,” and were on a roll. The fact that the organizations under the Governor-General of the colonies invited Tenkatsu’s group, and constantly reported and packaged their activities clearly shows that Tenkatsu’s group’s performance was not just due to its popularity. Japanese female magician Tenkatsu had performed not only in Joseon but also in Taiwan and Manchuria, and their activities were at the forefront of colonial cultural policies. In this paper, we follow the performances and activities of a representative performing organization in modern Japan called the Tenkatsu Party, focusing on their activities and the expansion process of colonial imperialism. 본고는 일본 제국주의의 식민지화가 본격적으로 진행된 1910년의 조선ㆍ대만을 중심으로, 일본의 마술단 천승(天勝)일행의 행적을 통해 당시 제국주의 세력의 확장에 발맞춰 이동했던 일본 공연단체의 활동양상과 제국주의 내에서 그들이 담당한 역할에 대해 고찰한 연구이다. 일본 공연단체의 식민지 내 활동은 그간 여러 연구를 통해 규명되어 오고 있다. 본고에서 주목한 마술단 천승 일행에 대해서도 최근 공연사 연구자들의 관심을 받고 있다. 그런데 천승 일행의 궤적을 살펴보다 보면 이들이 단순히 공연시장의 확보와 수익을 올리는 것에 머물지 않고, 일본 제국주의 선전의 최선봉에 서서 움직였다는 점을 알 수 있다. 이들이 연행한 공연물은 ‘근대적’이고 ‘교육적’이라는 평가를 얻으며 승승장구했다는 사실도 접할 수 있다. 천승 일행을 초청한 곳이 식민지 총독부 산하기관이며, 이들의 활동을 연일 기사로 보도하고 포장한 곳도 총독부 산하 기관지들이었다는 점은 천승 일행의 활약이 그저 인기에 힘입은 것만이 아니라는 점을 여실히 보여주고 있다. 일본의 여류마술사 천승은 조선뿐만 아니라, 대만ㆍ만주 등에서도 공연을 벌인 바 있으며, 그들의 활동은 식민주의 문화정책에 제일 앞줄에 서 있는 존재이기도 하다. 본고에서는 천승 일행이라는 근대일본의 대표적 공연단체의 공연활동과 행적을 따라가면서 이들의 활동과 식민 제국주의의 확장과정에 주목해 보았다.

Some Remarks on Gries’s Criticism on a Tree-based Approach of Multifactorial Data

A tree model that is typically used in data mining and machine learning has been recently adopted to analyze multifactorial data in corpus linguistics. However, Gries (2019) claims that tree-based approaches fail to deal with a data set in which not all input variables are necessary for predicting the target variable accurately. He demonstrates that a tree model reports a three-way interaction even when a two-way interaction can predict the target variable with 100% accuracy because there is another third significant input variable. In this article, I will argue that the result of a conditional inference tree applied to such a data set suggests that a researcher should analyze a two-way interaction effect. In other words, the result allows two different interpretations that are related to the structure of a data set and requires to test whether a two-way interaction is sufficient to explain the data. In doing so, I will show that the presence of the third input variable does not hinder the detection of a perfect two-way interaction that is displayed by a symmetric tree figure. Interconnected Framework Architecture in Constructing Electro-Conductive Flexible Nanocomposites

Various polymer nanocomposites exhibiting elecro-conductivity along with flexibility were successfully fabricated by construction of the graphene-based three-dimensional (3-D) mesoporous skeleton platform derived from 3-D interconnected framework architecture constituted with two-dimensional (2-D) graphitic nanosheets, and the subsequent infiltration of polymer into pore volumes of the skeleton platform. The mesoporous 3-D skeleton platform of graphene has been easily constructed by the aggregation of graphene-coated polystyrene (PS) hybrid spheres prepared through ionic interacton between anionic graphene nanosheets and cationic PS nanospheres, and the subsequent thermal removal of polymer components, which made it possible to provide well-made pathways for electron transport as well as empty pores for the following infiltration of polymer matrix component. When a flexible polymer such as PVDF-HFP was chosen as a polymer matrix component entering into pore volumes of the graphene skeleton platform, the graphene/polymer nanocomposite tended to exhibit interesting behavior of electrical conductivity, which is comparable to that of neat graphene skeleton platform, and also maintained the initial value even under halffolding condition, evidencing excellent structural stability of the graphene skeleton. Furthermore, it was found that exchange of polymer matrix does not significantly alter the electrical conductivity of nanocomposite, confirming again the performance of 3-D graphene skeleton employing interconnected framework architecture as electron transport pathway. The ability to embed 3-D graphene skeleton into polymer matrix is a great opportunity to impart high electrical and mechanical properties to polymer composite formulation.
