Vol.- No.127
This thesis discusses the perspectives and roles of those Japanese teachers who are engaged in educational activities for Zainichi Koreans in Japanese public schools found in Quarterly Sanzenri. The teachers, initially either discriminating or indifferent toward Zainichi Koreans, realized that leaving the discrimination led to a contradiction to their belief from the Post-war Japanese democratized education. Since then, they aggressively started getting involved in activities of Zainichi education. The movement on establishing Zainichi ethnic classes or Minzoku Gakkyu in a public school in the Nishinari district of Osaka stimulated their motivation. The ‘Real (Korean) Name Calling and Using campaign,’ symbolized by the ‘real name declaration’ in Japanese public schools was quite similar to the ‘Burakmin Declaration’ in the Burakumin Liberalization movement. Furthermore, many Japanese teachers engaged in Zainichi Korean education had experience in teaching or learning the Burakumin Liberalization education. In this sense, the two types of educational practices are closely related to each other. Meanwhile, the teachers belonging to the Japan Teachers' Union who were associated with the education of foreign students published a series of textbooks on Korean cultural and historical content. After gaining frustrating teaching experience on Korean-Japanese colonization history without any knowledge of Korean cultural heritage, the teachers realized that the cultural content must be taught before lecturing the historical one. Such practices contributed to a mutual understanding and an anti-discrimination practice among both the Japanese and Korean students. Their practices can be defined as Japan's first implementation of multicultural education where the majority can learn about the minority living in the common community.

Digital image processing algorithm was proposed to measure the area inside of an object image using angle-distance graph used to analyze the pattern of an object in the digital image processing techniques. The first angle-distance graph is generated from a point inside of an object area. The second angle-distance graphs are generated for the areas missed in the first graph by extracting the positions with large gradient in the first angle-distance graph. The order of the graph increases according to the complexity of an object pattern. Size of the area inside of an object boundary is measured by integrating square of distance multiplied by angle for each area from the hierarchical angle-distance graphs.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how Japan's Pacific War reparations toward Asian nations, namely Indonesia and Philippines, were implemented and what their influences were like. The reparations were implemented for the purpose of Japan's reentry into the Asian market, which serves Japan as an important provider of business opportunities as well as natural resources. The method of service reparation was introduced by the US in order to minimize Japan's burden of war compensations against Asian victims. By introducing service reparation, Japan could maximize its business opportunities in these nations at the same time. In Japan's service reparation framework, only Japanese companies could participate in business or project opportunities held in respective Asian nations; furthermore, payments were guaranteed and implemented directly by Japanese government. These meant that the size of Japan's war reparations was equal to the revenue of Japanese companies working in Asia. In short, Japan itself became the largest beneficiary of the reparations. This framework was quite similar to the Great East Asian Co-prosperity Sphere, in which each Asian nation play a role of natural resources provider and subordinated market. Japan did not rule the nations after the Pacific War; however, mutual economic relations between Japan and respective Asian nations virtually did not change. This can be understood as one of the side effects of Japan's service reparations. Another side effect was that many of reparation business opportunities became media of bribery between political leaders of Asian nations and Japanese businesses. As a result, it became difficult to say that Japan's war reparation certainly contributed to nation buildings of respective Asian nations.
