From June, 15th, 1987 to June, 14th, 1989, 105 Duromedics bileaflet cardiac valve prostheses were implanted in 81 patients. Mitral valve replacement was done in 42 patients, 7 underwent aortic valve replacement, 28 underwent double valve replacement, & 4 patients underwent triple valve replacement. Concomitantly used valves were 13 cases; 11 cases were St. Jude Medical valves[M: SJM #29 X4, #27 X5, #25 X 1, T: SJM #33] & two cases were Carpentier Edwards bioprostheses[T: C - E #31X2]. The early mortality rate[within 30 days] was 3.7%[2 patients] & the late mortality rate was 7.4%[3 patients]. Follow-up was done on 72 surviving patients; mean follow-up period was 21.17$\pm$5.36 months. Anticoagulant-related hemorrhage was observed in two patients, possible prosthetic valvular endocarditis was observed in one patient and other specific valve-related complications were none. We concluded, therefore, that good clinical results & a low complication rate could be achieved with Duromedics bileaflet valve in short-term follow-up, & long-term follow-up was also necessary.

The author reviewed 10 patients of chest wall tumors which were operated during 7 years, from 1970 to 1976, in Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in Chonnam University Hospital. Benign tumors were 6 patients, malignant tumors were 2 patients and metastatic tumors were 2 patients. Benign tumors were more than malignant tumors, but total cases were small, so, statistical analysis was not enough. Specific symptoms of chest wall tumor were swelling due to mass and pain. All cases had swelling due to mass and 4 cases [40%] had pain. Dyspnea was noted in metastatic tumors. The review of the literatures was also done.
Small Internal Antenna Using Multiband, Wideband, and High-Isolation MIMO Techniques

In this paper, a small internal antenna for a mobile handset is presented using multiband, wideband, and high-isolation multiple-input multiple-output techniques. The proposed antenna consists of three planar inverted-F antennas (PIFAs) that operate in the global system for mobile communication (GSM900), the digital communication system (DCS), the personal communication system (PCS), the universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS), and wireless local area network (WLAN) bands with a physical size of 40 mm × 10 mm × 10 mm. A resonator attached to the folded PIFA creates dual resonances, achieving a wide bandwidth of approximately 460 MHz, covering the DCS, PCS, and UMTS bands; a meander shorting line is used to improve impedance matching. Additionally, a modified neutralization link is embedded between diversity antennas to enhance isolation, which results in a 6-dB improvement in the isolation and less than 0.1 in the envelope correlation coefficient evaluated from the far-field radiation patterns. Simulation and measurements demonstrate very similar results for S-parameters and radiation patterns. Peak gains show 3.73 dBi, 3.77 dBi, 3.28 dBi, 2.15 dBi, and 5.86 dBi, and antenna efficiencies show 56.15%, 72.15%, 68.59%, 52.92%, and 82.93% for GSM900, DCS, PCS, UMTS, and WLAN bands, respectively.
Time-domain CMOS temperature sensors with temperature-to-digital converter

In this paper, two types of CMOS temperature sensors using temperature-to-digital converter (TDC) are proposed. The proposed circuits are suitable for low-power, small- area hardware because it is a temperature sensor made only of general MOS transistors. It is also simple to implement calibration scheme in order to obtain desired accuracy. One temperature sensor is a temperature sensor using ring oscillator with the supply voltage variation compensation scheme and the other utilizes relaxation oscillator. Each circuit was fabricated with Samsung 65nm 1P4M CMOS technology and operates over the temperature range from -40◦C to 120◦C. The chip area of the temperature sensor using ring oscillator and relaxation oscillator is 0.056mm2 and 0.047mm2, respectively.

From April 1982 to December, 1988, multiple valve replacement was performed in 49 patients. Mitral and aortic valve replacement were done in 42 patients, 4 underwent mitral and tricuspid valve replacement and 3 patients underwent triple valve replacement. Of the valve implanted, 50 were Duromedics, 21 St. Jude, 13 Bjork-Shiley, 9 Carpentier-Edwards, 6 Ionescu-Shiley, and 2 Medtronic. The hospital mortality rate was 28.5 % [14 patients] and the late mortality rate was 6.1 % [3 patients], the mortality rate was high in early operative period but decreased with time. [20% at 1986, 18.2 % at 1987, 9.5% at 1988] The causes of death were low cardiac output in 8, congestive heart failure in 2, multiple organ failure in 1, LV rupture in 1, intracerebral hemorrhage in 1 and sudden death in l. The actuarial survival rate excluding operative death was 77% at 7 years.
Synthesis method of a mapping matrix for gravity compensators

This paper presents a synthesis method of a mapping matrix for gravity compensators. For the space mapping method the mapping matrix indicates the number of unit gravity compensators and their locations simultaneously. To enable the synthesis of the mapping matrix we newly suggest the motion matrix, which is originated from the concept of mobility and connectivity and represents possible joint motions of a target mechanism. We showed that a motion matrix can be synthesized by merging several motion matrices. The motion matrix is modified considering features of static balancing (e.g., absolute motion, mobility and potential energy) and, therefore, the mapping matrix is derived from the motion matrix with no computations. Thus, the synthesis of a gravity compensator is enabled with the motion matrix. The syntheses are conducted for a six-DOF and three-link manipulator.

From August, 1986 to December, 1990, aortic valve replacement was performed in 33 Patients at the Chonnam National University Hospital. Of the valves implanted 25 were St. Jude, 7 Duromedics, and 2 Bjork-Shiley. The hospital mortality rate was 6.1% and the late mortality was none. Follow-up was done on 28 surviving patients; mean follow-up period was 31.21$\pm$16.96 months. Valve-related and anticoagulant-related complications were none. The actuarial survival rate was 93.4% at 5 years.

From August, 1986 to December, 1989, mitral valve replacement was performed in 93 patients. Of the valve implanted, 42 were Duromedics, 35 St. Jude Medical, 15 Carpenter-Edwards and 1 Ionescu-Shiley. The hospital mortality rate was 3.2%[3 patients] and the late mortality rate was 4.3% [4 patients]. The causes of hospital death were LV rupture in 1, renal failure in 1 and hypoxic brain damage in l. The causes of late death were congestive heart failure in 1 and sudden death in 3. Follow-up was done on 78 surviving patients; mean follow-up period was 29.22$\pm$9.09 months. The actual survival rate was 91.8% at 4 years. We concluded, therefore, that good clinical results could be achieved with mitral valve replacement in short-term follow-up, and long-term follow-up is also necessary.
