Nowadays various anti-fouling paints with low frictional coefficient have been developed and launched because of the increasing fuel efficiency. However few results were reported the relationship between the abrasion and surface properties of AF. In this study, we developed dynamic and static methods to analyzing this relationship employing commercial AF paints. The dynamic test method, which was based on ASTM D6442, has been carried out for 6 months using polycarbonate cylinder specimens. In static tests, all specimens have been immersed in substitute ocean water and periodically sampled the specimen and examined. In addition, we investigated the copper release rate of antifouling paints through the ICP-OES.

In previous research, we reported the synthesis process of SPCs resins containing poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) groups based on Zinc methacylate. In that process, we used Benzoyl Peroxide(BPO) as an initiator and dissolved in liquid monomers. Even though this method had not risks at the lab scale, there is a possibility of an explosion in mass production processes due to the high reactivity and the change of solubility of BPO in monomer mixtures. Thus we investigated the optimum conditions for an initiator for mass productions, while maintaining the original properties of a basic SPC resin. The first method was the separation of a initiator from the monomer. The second method was the exchange of BPO to other liquid initiators. And we synthesised the SPC resins employing the mixture of BPO and other liquid initiators. We conducted basic physical properties of resins: non-volatile contents (NV), viscosity, hardness, reaction time to NaOH solutions. The long-term tests for friction resistance of anti-fouling paints

The anti-fouling (AF) paints apply to ships for reducing the fuel consumption. Most of AF paints have a limited life span of a two years to a five years. In spite of these real conditions, evaluation methods for long-term performance have not yet been introduced. We examined long-term test method, which has based on the established Rotor tests and expended the testing period up to six months. The frictional drag reduction effects were measured by comparing a tested AF to the baseline AF or uncoated surface as the torque value. We prepared 5 the shapes of drum specimens depending on the formulation of AF paints. The specimens were rotated in artificial seawater for 6 months and measured torque every month employing the torque sensor system.
Development & evaluation of SPCs(self-polishing copolymers) paint

SPC paints have the mechanism of hydrolysis or ion exchange reaction of an acrylic polymer with seawater. It has been applied to antifouling paints because SPCs are constantly eroded. In this study, we synthesized SPC resins containing poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) groups and manufactured antifouling paints employing the synthesized SPC resins. The structures of the synthesized resins were confirmed using FT-IR and NMR. The drag-reduction property of the developed paints was examined by rotor tests and LDV(Laser Doppler Velocimetry) tests.

We report a simple and facile technique to transform naphthenic acid treated 2-D graphene oxide to 3-D, mesoporous graphene-carbon nanotube (G-CNT) hierarchical nano-architectures using nickel as the catalyst and microwave as the energy source. The as-prepared G-Ni-CNT structure is highly porous and exhibit good conductivity. When applied as electrodes in super-capacitor, our G-Ni-CNT shows high specific capacitance of 894 F g-1 at a current density of 1 A g-1 in 6 M KOH electrolyte solution, with good rate capability and cycling stability.
