‘Long life without aging’ is dream of human beings. People tried to live long and healthy as well as expressed this dream through diverse artworks. We call these living long and healthy(祝壽康寧Chuksugangnyeong). Icons that contain the concept of live long and healthy can be found easily in Korea’s whole traditional art. Taoist Immortal(神仙圖Sinsundo), Longevity symbols painting(長生圖Jangsaengdo), and One hundred life one hundred fortune(百壽百福圖Baeksubaekbokdo) are examples of this concept among Folk paintings(民畵Minhwa). Jangsengdo is the painting about living creatures that have a long lifespan or symbolize immortality. Baeksubaekbokdo is the painting of letters life(壽Su) and fortune(福Bok) repeatedly. We can easily find that icons presented in embroideries are almost identical to those of Minhwa because they were close to lives of ordinary people. Technical characteristics using yarn and needles made restrictions of embroideries to express icons. However, abstract and fresh icons only embroideries could make were due to these restrictions.
