Phosphorus in natural water and wastewater exists in supersaturated state due to low solubility, and it is difficult to form crystals and precipitates because precipitation rate in steps of nucleation, crystal growth, agglomeration and ripening is slow. Precipitation rate can be increased by seeding the crystals which has components and structure similar to the precipitates. This study is based on the precipitation mechanism and was performed to see phosphorus removal efficiency of various clamshells serving as surface precipitation media. The results obtained from this study are following ; From XRD analysis for various clamshells, major component of clamshell used as phosphorus removal material is found to be CaCO₃/aragonite. The batch tests with the clamshells showed excellent phosphorus removal efficiency up on 99% depending on the experimental condition. Phosphorus removal efficiency was dependent on temperature, detention time, pH and shell particle size, and appeared relatively high removal efficiency at high temperature, long detention time, low pH and small shell particle size. Phosphorus removal technology using clamshells has many advantages of reusing solid wastes, not producing sludge as well as not adding chemicals.

<P>In this paper, we present a simple, low-cost and flexible hybrid cell that converts individually or simultaneously low-frequency mechanical energy and photon energy into electricity using piezoelectric zinc oxide (ZnO) in conjunction with organic solar cell design. Since the hybrid cell is designed by coupled piezoelectric and photoconductive properties of ZnO, this is a naturally hybrid architecture without crosstalk and an additional assembling process to create multi-type energy scavengers, thus differing from a simple integration of two different energy generators. It is demonstrated that the behavior of a piezoelectric output is controlled from alternating current (AC) type to direct current (DC)-like type by tailoring mechanical straining processes both in the dark and under light illumination. Based on such controllability of output modes, it is shown that the performance of the hybrid cell is synergistically enhanced by integrating the contribution made by a piezoelectric generator with a solar cell under a normal indoor level of illumination. Our approach clearly demonstrates the potential of the hybrid approach for scavenging multi-type energies whenever and wherever they are available. 모델도시 상수관망과 수도전에서의 수질변화 분석 및 2차오염 저감방안

The major objective of this research is to investigate water quality variation and secondary contamination in the water distribution system. Periodic sampling and analysis were conducted in the water distribution pipes and the consumer taps as well as sediment in the water storage tank for a year. Eleven metals including Al, turbidity, NH₄+-N, NO₃-N, Hardness, Phenol, MBAS, residual chlorine, THMs, alkalinity, Ca and Langelier Index were chosen for analysis. Low residual chlorine concentration was found in some aresa in the model city, which possibly result in biological regrowth problem, Langelier Index was negative and the possibility of corrosion and secondary metal pollution in water distribution systems and tap existed. NH₄-N, Phenol, Fe, Al and Zn concentration is detected close to water quality standard in some areas.

This empirical research study aimed at determining (a) the differences between opinion leaders and followers or non-leaders in the four sample villages of SAEMAUL successful village and unsuccessful ones, and (b) the differences between opinion leaders in the SAEMAUL successful villages and those in the unsuccessful ones. Based on the data obtained from a total of 430 farm operators and farm homemakers in the sample villages, it was generally found that the rural village opinion leaders were different from their followers or non-leaders considerably in such attributes as (a) socio-cultural variables, (b) communication behavioral variables, and (c) social-psychological variables. On the other hand, the leadership trait patterns of the village opinion leaders were also found different according to the SAEMAUL successful villages and unsuccessful ones.

To identify the effect of total sleep deprivation on sleep structures, polysomnography was performed for 8 healthy young adults. The subjects were young adults, ranging in age from 21 years to 26 years, with no past or present histories of significant medical, neurological, or psychiatric illness as well as no current major sleep disturbances or parasomnias, After one adaptation night, each subject was recorded polysomnography in the sleep laboratory. Sleep records were analyzed according to the criteria of Rechtschaffen and Kales every 20 seconds, and tried paired-t-test. The results were summarized as follows. 1. After on night of total sleep deprivation, compared with the baseline WASO was significantly decreased in the first recovery night, and SWS and REM sleep were significantly increased in the first recovery night. 2. Compared with the baseline, the relative value(%) of REM sleep was significantly increased in the first recovery night. 3. Compared with the baseline, TST was significantly increased in the first recovery night, and sleep latency and REM latency were significantly decreased in the first recovery night. According to the above results we could identify the effects of total sleep deprivation on sleep structure in normal young adults.

This study was performed to standardize the Korean version of the SMH sleep questionnaire and to identify the age differences in sleep patterns. The author translated 'The St. Mary's(SMH) sleep questionnaire'(Ellis et al. 1981) into Korean and applied it to the Korean subjects. For standardization, 101 subjects were devided into two groups, 58 normal adults group and 43 psychiatric in-patients group. They completed the sleep questionnaire twice a day, immediately after waking up in the morning and then about 4 hours later. Test-retest correlation coefficients were calculated using SPSS/PC(???). For identifying the age differences of sleep patterns, the sleep questionnaire was applied to the 3 age groups, puberty group aged 13-14, young adult group aged 20-25, and middle age group aged 38-42, ANOVA was performed using SPSS/PC(???). The results were as follows : 1) This sleep questionnaire is found to be a reliable tool to find out general sleep patterns not only in normal persons but also in psychiatric patients in Korea. 2) Characteristics of sleep patterns among 3 age groups are : (1) Puberty group were still sleepy when woke up, and had little problem in getting to sleep with short sleep latency. (2) Young adult group were late in settling down for the night, falling asleep, waking up and getting up with long midday nap time. 3) Middle age group woke up frequently during sleep, had short total sleep time, and were troubled by waking early and being unable to get off to sleep again.
