        Pro is Still Case-Ungoverned

        Ths main purpose of this squib is to show that unlike Lasnik and Uriagereka's (1988) claim, the Case-theoretic approach to the distribution of PRO in English can substantially broaden its empirical coverage if we adopt Park's (1988a) proposal that Chomsky's (1981) PRO-theorem be recast as the PRO-condition, which states that PRO must be Case-ungoverned (or PRO may not be Case-governed). In order to make the PRO-condition work properly, we invoke the Case theory of Chomsky (1986a), where case-marking consists of two separate steps: Case-assignment and Case-realization. We also propose with respect to the Case theory that the adjacency condition on Case-assignment of Stowell (1981) be reinterpreted as a condition for Case-realization. In addition, the Case-absorbing properties of passive morphology will be redressed as the properties that absorb the Case-realizing ability of its host verb.

        보호지역 경계조정을 위한 공간의사결정지원모델 연구 -지리산 국립공원을 사례로-

        The purpose of this study are to develop a SDSS (Spatial Decision Support System) that can incorporate diverse opinions of stakeholders related the designation of protected areas (PA), and to employ the model for the readjustment of the boundary line of the Jirisan National Park of Korea. The SDSS would lead to more rational and less controversial decision-making during the expansion or removal of PA in Korea. Research methods are as follows. Firstly, to select evaluation criteria for SDSS for PA designation by using expert interview and literature survey. Secondly, to measure their preferences on the designation of additional PA or the removal of a part of PA based on the opinions of various stakeholders such as local residents, environmental groups, or public officials. Thirdly, to produce conservation priority maps based on a multi-criteria decision making technique. The SDSS would be used to rational decision making for the expansion of PA or the release of a certain part of PA by reflecting diverse preferences on biodiversity conservation and economic interest of residents. The visualization of conservation priority maps would also increase the efficiency of such decision making processes. The evaluation criteria for the expansion of PA for biodiversity conservation includes vegetation conservation value, wildlife conservation value, and the habitats of key species. The evaluation criteria for the removal of PA includes the proximity to roads and the boundary of PA, land use types, and conservation zoning of the PA. Preference weights are based on data collected from the Jirisan National Park. Both the conservation priority and removal priority maps are based on land parcels so that property rights of all parcels would be correctly represented.

        제2종의 중심합성계획의 통계적 성질

        Kim(2002)은 축점의 위치가 두 개의 수에 의하여 정해지는 제2종의 중심합성계획을 제시하고 이를 CCD2라 불렀다. 본 논문에서는 CCD2를 더욱 연구하여 몇 가지의 새로운 사실을 밝혔다. 직교성과 회전성, 직교성과 기울기회전성, 회전성과 균등정밀성을 동시에 갖는 CCD2들을 구하였으며, Park과 Kim(1992)이 제시한 기울기회전성의 측도를 이러한 CCD2들에 적용하여 그 결과를 관찰하였다. Kim(2002) proposed a second type of central composite design in which the positionsof the axial points are indicated by two numbers, and called it CCD2. In the present paper, we have studied CCD2 further and obtained several new facts. We have obtained CCD2's that have both orthogonality and rotatability, both orthogonality and slope rotatability, and both rotatability and uniform precision. We also have applied Park and Kim's (1992) measure of slope rotatability to such CCD2's and observed some useful results.

        한국인 혀동맥의 형태

        연구자들은 한국인 어른 남녀 시신의 머리와 목 61 을 대상으로 깊은 층 육안해부를 시행하여 혀동맥의 형태를 조사하였다 혀동맥이 일어나는 유형은 위갑상동맥, 혀동맥, 그리고 얼굴동맥이 바깥목동액에서 따로 가지를 내어 나뉘는 경우가 563% 호 가장 않았으며, 얼굴동맥과 혀동맥이 강은 가지에서 얼어나 나뉘는 경우 (312%), 그리고 위 강상동액과 혀동맥이 같은 가지에서 나뉘는 경우 (12 5%) 등이 있었다. 혀동맥과 혀동맥의 둘째 부분은 덮는 목뿔혀근 과의 영대학적 관계는 각각 혀동맥의 첫째 부분이 목뿔혀근 뒤에서 심하게 휘어져 깊은 층으로 들어가는 유형 (41 2 %), 그리고 혀동맥의 첫째 부분이 목뿔혀근의 뒤쪽 근육모셔리 바로 뒤흘 지나 깊은 층으로 들어가는 경우가 661% 로 가장 많았다 목뿔혀근 깊은층에서 혀동맥의 둘째 부분이 달리는 양상은 급하게 위쪽으로 꺾역 달리다가 다시 앞쪽으로 꺾여 혀의 깊은 곳으로 들어가는 경우와 목뿔빼에서 혀쪽으로 완만한 굽이플 이루며 올라가는 경우가 비슷한 반도로 관찰되었다. 입안바닥에 분포하는 혀밑동맥이 혀동맥 셋째 부분에서 나오는 경우슨 전체의 590% 에서만 관창되었으며 그 외는 대부분 얼굴동맥의 턱끝 및동맥 가지가 턱옥뽕근응 옳고 입안바닥에 분포하였다. 따라서 연구자들은 한국인 업안바 닥에는 혀동액이 전체의 59%에서만 분포하며 그외는 영굴동액의 턱끝밑동맥 가지 , 그리고 기타 다른 동맥의 가지들이 분포한다는 사실을 확인하였다

        Serum Bone Morphogenic Protein-4 Contributes to Discriminating Coronary Artery Disease Severity

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Bone morphogenic protein 4 (BMP-4) is a known pro-inflammatory and pro-atherogenic cytokine. Here, we investigated whether the serum BMP-4 level predicts coronary artery disease (CAD) severity in humans.</P><P>We measured serum BMP-4 concentrations in 1044 consecutive patients who underwent elective coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention. CAD severity was estimated by the number of diseased vessels showing ≥50% diameter stenosis.</P><P>Among males, the serum BMP-4 level was significantly lower in patients with multivessel disease (MVD) compared with those with single-vessel disease (SVD) (16.3 ± 22.6 vs. 22.0 ± 28.4 pg/mL, <I>P</I> < 0.01). After adjustment for other cardiovascular risk factors, a high serum BMP-4 level was an independent predictor for a decreased risk of MVD (odds ratio, 0.992; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.985–0.998; <I>P</I> = 0.01) and patients in the lower tertile were 1.55-fold more likely to have MVD compared with upper tertile patients. Receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis demonstrated that the serum BMP-4 level had a 54% sensitivity and 54% specificity for predicting MVD (area under the curve [AUC], 56.5%; 95% CI, 51.9–61.0%; <I>P</I> < 0.01). Serum BMP-4 improved the predictive capability of risk factors for MVD (AUC with and without BMP-4: 64.9 and 63.6%, respectively). Considering the likelihood ratio and number of parameters, adding the serum BMP-4 level provided a better-fit model for predicting MVD compared with the model consisting of conventional risk factors (likelihood ratio <I>χ</I><SUP>2</SUP> = 6.20, <I>P</I> = 0.01). However, an association between serum BMP-4 and CAD was not observed in females.</P><P>Serum BMP-4 levels are independently associated with CAD severity and contribute to discriminating CAD severity in males.</P>

        The size control of silver nanocrystals with different polyols and its application to low-reflection coating materials

        <P>The size of silver nanocrystals in polyol synthesis can be simply controlled by tuning the viscosity of the reaction medium such as ethylene glycol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol and 1,5-pentanediol. We found that a higher viscose medium (1,5-pentanediol) led to monodispersed smaller particles thanks to the slow addition of silver atoms into the nuclei. Size-controlled silver nanocrystals of 30 nm were obtained in a viscosity controlled medium of 1,5-pentanediol to synthesize a low refractive index filler by coating with silica and subsequent etching of the silver core. The coated low-reflection layer from the hollow silica nanoparticles on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film can greatly reduce the reflection of the PET film from 10% to 2% over the entire visible region. </P>

        The Effect of Cognitive Training in a Day Care Center in Patients with Early Alzheimer’s Disease Dementia: A Retrospective Study

        Objective This study aimed to evaluate the effect of cognitive training programs on the progression of dementia in patients with early stage Alzheimer’s disease dementia (ADD) at the day care center. Methods From January 2015 to December 2018, a total of 119 patients with early ADD were evaluated. All subjects were classified into two groups according to participate in cognitive training program in addition to usual standard clinical care. Changes in scores for minimental status examination-dementia screening (MMSE-DS) and clinical dementia rating-sum of boxes (CDR-SOB) during the 12 months were compared between two groups. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed. Results As compared to case-subjects (n=43), the MMSE-DS and CDR-SOB scores were significantly worse at 12 months in the control- subjects (n=76). A statistically significant difference between the two groups was observed due to changes in MMSE-DS (p=0.012) and CDR-SOB (p<0.001) scores. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the cognitive training program (odds ratio and 95% confidence interval: 0.225, 0.070-0.725) was independently associated with less progression of ADD. Conclusion The cognitive training program was associated with benefits in maintaining cognitive function for patients with earlystage ADD that were receiving medical treatment.

      • Alloy Design of New Ni-Based Structural Materials for Electrolytic Reduction and its Corrosion Behavior in Lithium Molten Salt

        <P>In this study, the corrosion behavior of new Ni-based structural materials was studied for electrolytic reduction after exposure to LiCl-Li2O molten salt at 650°C for 24-216h under an oxidizing atmosphere. The new alloys with Ni, Cr, Al, Si, and Nb as the major components were melted at 1700°C under inert atmosphere. The corrosion products and fine structures of the corroded specimens were characterized by SEM, EDS, and XRD. The corrosion rate of 12wt% Cr-2wt% Si alloys and 12wt% Cr-5wt% Si alloys are below 0.3mm/year. However, the corrosion rate of 20wt% Cr-5wt% Si is 0.6mm/year. Also, the corrosion products of 12wt% Cr alloys were Cr2O3, NiCr2O4, Ni, and NiO; those of 20wt% Cr alloys were Cr2O3, LiAl2Cr3O8, and NiO. The higher corrosion rate of 20wt% Cr-5wt% Si could be the higher solute concentration which leads to an unstable alloy formation. As confirmed by the pseudo binary phase diagram of (Ni-Cr-Al-Nb)-Si, the solubility of the silicon with 20 wt% of Cr decreased to 4 wt% from 5 wt% with 12 wt% of Cr.</P>

      • Anisotropic wetting and superhydrophobicity on holographically featured 3D nanostructured surfaces

        <P>Holographically featured SU-8 polymer surfaces exhibited anisotropic wetting by water droplets, due to liquid pinning at the edges of the top rods in 3D woodpile structures.
