Objective: Both estrogen receptors, ER alpha ($ER{\alpha}$) and ER beta ($ER{\beta}$), are expressed in 50-70% of breast cancer cases. The role of $ER{\alpha}$ as a prognostic marker in breast cancer has been well established as its expression is negative correlated with tumor size and lymph node metastasis. $ER{\beta}$ is also a favorable prognostic predictor although this is less well documented than for $ER{\alpha}$. Materials and Methods: To explore whether ERs independently or together might influence clinical outcome in breast cancer, the correlation between the ERs with the clinicopathological features was analyzed in 84 patients. Results: $ER{\alpha}$ expression negatively correlated with tumor stage (r=-0.246, p=0.028) and tended to be negatively correlated with lymph node status (r=-0.156, p=0.168) and tumor size (r=-0.246, p=0.099). Also, $ER{\beta}$ was negatively correlated with nodal status (r=-0.243, p=0.028), as was coexpression of $ER{\alpha}$ and $ER{\beta}$ (p=0.043, OR=0.194, 95% CI= 0.040-0.953). Conclusion: Coexpression of ERs might serve as an indicator of good prognosis in breast cancer patients.

This article studies rapid repair materials by mainly carrying out macro- and micro-performanceimpact tests. The static volumetric method was used to conduct pore volume-aperture analysis and prove the impact of the durability and repair performance of materials. The results show that 1) material impermeability can be effectively improved by increasing the ratio of active ingredients A:B and reducing the water-to-binder ratio. Adding an appropriate amount of fine aggregate can enable one to adjust the microstructure of the repair material, improve the compactness of the material, and effectively improve the impermeability. 2) An increase in the proportion of active ingredient A, water-binder ratio, sand-cement ratio and fly ash content will reduce the self-shrinkage of the specimen; with increasing NS and silica fume content, shrinkage increases. 3) Through analysis of pore size and pore volume, the total pore volume of the repair material is found to be reduced by 16.0% compared with cement mortar. Within a pore diameter range of 2.00 − 10.00 nm, the volume of the repair material increases by 78.9% compared to that for cement mortar. The total volume of the mesopores (2 − 50 nm) in the repair material accounts for 87.7% of the total volume, and the total volume of the mesopores in the cement mortar accounts for 81.23% of the total volume, which further illustrates the excellent macroscopic properties of the repair material.

The main contribution of this paper is to present a general design method of new nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO) based on tracking differentiator (TD) for uncertain dynamic system. The stability and convergence of the proposed NDO can be guaranteed by TD. This new NDO can be used to estimate many types of uncertain disturbances, and can overcome the disadvantages of existing NDOs that need the priori information concerning the upper and lower bounds of the disturbance and its ith derivative’s Lipschitz upper bound. It can be also applied in uncertain dynamic system for various purposes such as disturbance estimate and compensation, solving the problem of control input constraint, and reducing even eliminating chattering of control input. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the developed NDO.

The novel AgCl/Ag2SO3 hybrids as an efficient photocatalyst had been fabricated by an in situ synthetic method. The correlations between the structure and the photocatalytic properties of the as-fabricated hybrids were analyzed. Experimental results exhibited that with increasing the amount of Ag2SO3, the degradation rate of the as-obtained samples was firstly increased and then decreased under the visible light irradiation. When the mass ratio of AgCl to Ag2SO3 was 1:2, in 30?min, it displayed the highest degradation rate of 99.2% for rhodamine-B, which was obviously higher than 46.1, 60.5, and 14.6% of pure AgCl, Ag2SO3, and TiO2 (P25), respectively. Similar results could be found in degradation of methyl orange. It had the maximum of 97.4% in 90?min, which was higher than 55.2, 48.7, and 12.7% of pure AgCl, Ag2SO3, and P25, respectively. Moreover, the as-prepared hybrids possessed the enhanced separation and transfer of photo-generated electron?hole pairs compared to the pure samples. In addition, the holes and superoxide radicals played the dominant role and the hydroxyl radicals played the secondary role during the process of photocatalytic degradation.

In this study, the spatial variation mechanisms of large far-field earthquakes at engineering scales are first investigated with data from the 2008 Ms 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake. And a novel ‘coherency cut-off frequency’ is proposed to distinguish the spatial variations in ground motions in the low-frequency and high-frequency ranges. Then, a practical piecewise coherency model is developed to estimate and characterize the spatial variation in earthquake ground motions, including the effects of source-to-site distances, site conditions and neighboring topography on these variations. Four particular earthquake records from dense seismograph arrays are used to investigate values of the coherency cut-off frequency for different source-to-site distances. On the basis of this analysis, the model is established to simulate the spatial variations, whose parameters are suitable for both near- and far-field earthquake conditions. Simulations are conducted to validate the proposed model and method. The results show that compared to the existing models, the proposed model provides an effective method for simulating the spatial correlations of ground motions at local sites with known source-to-site distances.

Prostate cancer is a leading cause of death in male populations across the globe. With the advent of gene expression arrays, many microarray studies have been conducted in prostate cancer, but the results have varied across different studies. To better understand the genetic and biologic mechanisms of prostate cancer, we conducted a meta-analysis of two studies on prostate cancer. Eight key genes were identified to be differentially expressed with progression. After gene co-expression analysis based on data from the GEO database, we obtained a co-expressed gene list which included 725 genes. Gene Ontology analysis revealed that these genes are involved in actin filament-based processes, locomotion and cell morphogenesis. Further analysis of the gene list should provide important clues for developing new prognostic markers and therapeutic targets.
A Novel Bi-directional Promoter Cloned from Melon and Its Activity in Cucumber and Tobacco

A bi-directional promoter, DP, was cloned by PCR amplification using the genomic DNA of melon as template. Analysis of its cis-acting elements in both directions revealed a series of inducible regulatory elements and some enhancer elements. To evaluate its transcriptional activity, DP in both directions was then cloned into vector pBI121 to replace the CaMV 35S promoter. DP in both directions also was inserted downstream of CaMV 35S to investigate whether the double promoter might affect expression of the uidA reporter gene at higher levels. Transient expression in cucumber leaves, stems, and fruits as well as in tobacco leaves and stems showed that DP in both directions drove transcription to much higher levels than did the single promoter CaMV 35S. However, activity of the double promoter was lower than the corresponding activity of the single promoter DP in both directions. These results demonstrate that DP is a natural bi-directional promoter, with much more activity than is found with the CaMV 35S promoter. Furthermore, in cucumber and tobacco, it is not suitable to insert DP in either direction downstream of the CaMV 35S promoter to form a double promoter.

The oriental fruit moth (OFM), Grapholita molesta (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), is a serious pest of stone and pome fruit trees worldwide. G. molesta can switch hosts and produce multiple generations per year. Both the primary and secondary host plants of G. molesta emit aldehydes. Here, we tested whether these aldehydes are helpful for host switching of G. molesta. SPME (Solid Phase Microextraction)-GC–MS analysis identified four aldehydes (octanal, nonanal, decanal, and benzaldehyde) from volatiles of late-season yellow peach fruits. Of the four aldehydes, eletroantennogram analysis showed that nonanal produced the strongest response from the antennae of virgin and mated females. In Y-tube bioassays, only nonanal was attractive to mated G. molesta females amongst the four aldehydes, suggesting that nonanal is important for host recognition in G. molesta. In a field trial, each of the four aldehydes was tested as an attractant for both sexes of G. molesta. The traps baited with nonanal captured more female G. molesta, as compared to traps with other aldehydes and control; the traps baited with benzaldehyde captured most male G. molesta. Our research investigations provide theoretical foundation for biological control of G. molesta females. Future G. molesta lure designs should take into account sex-specific differences in the response to individual aldehydes.

Grapholita molesta (Busck) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a notorious pest of many Rosaceae crops worldwide. Enhancement of trap efficiency of its sex pheromone was devised by addition of E-β-ocimene and E-β-farnesene. The addition of E-β-ocimene or E-β-farnesene to sex pheromone increased electroantennogram response of male G. molesta compared to sex pheromone alone. Blend of pheromone and E-β-ocimene or E-β-farnesene in 1:0.1 increased the upwind flight and landing behaviors. Furthermore, field experiments showed that sex lures with Eβ-ocimene, or /and E-β-farnesene, enhanced trapping efficiency compared to sex pheromone alone. These results may provide the basis for the development of efficient pest management systems against G. molesta using plant volatiles and insect sex pheromones.
