      • <i>Belnapia soli</i> sp. nov., a proteobacterium isolated from grass soil

        <P>A Gram-negative, aerobic, non-motile, non-spore-forming, cocci-shaped, red-pigmented bacterium, designated strain PB-K8<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from grass soil sampled in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence studies showed that the isolate was clearly affiliated with the class <I>Alphaproteobacteria</I><I>,</I> and was most closely related to <I>Belnapia moabensis</I> DSM 16746<SUP>T</SUP> and <I>Belnapia rosea</I> DSM 23312<SUP>T</SUP>, showing a 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to the type strains of each species of 98.4 and 97.2 %, respectively. The cells of strain PB-K8<SUP>T</SUP> formed red colonies on R2A agar, contained Q-9 as the predominant ubiquinone and included summed feature 3 (C<SUB>16 : 1</SUB>ω7<I>c</I> C<SUB>16 : 1</SUB>ω6<I>c</I>), C<SUB>16 : 0</SUB>, summed feature 8 (C<SUB>18 : 1</SUB>ω7<I>c</I>/C<SUB>18 : 1</SUB>ω6<I>c</I>), C<SUB>18 : 1</SUB> 2-OH and C<SUB>19 : 0</SUB> cyclo ω8<I>c</I> as the major fatty acids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain PB-K8<SUP>T</SUP> was 72.1 mol%. Thus, the combined genotypic and phenotypic data supported the conclusion that strain PB-K8<SUP>T</SUP> represents a novel species of the genus <I>Belnapia</I>, for which the name <I>Belnapia soli</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is PB-K8<SUP>T</SUP> ( = KCTC 23765<SUP>T</SUP> = JCM 18033<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>

      • <i>Chelatococcus caeni</i> sp. nov., isolated from a biofilm reactor sludge sample

        <P>A polyphasic taxonomic study was carried out on strain EBR-4-1<SUP>T</SUP>, which was isolated from a biofilm reactor in the Republic of Korea. The cells of the strain were Gram-stain-negative, non-spore-forming, motile and rod-shaped. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence studies showed a clear affiliation of this strain to the <I>Alphaproteobacteria</I>, and it was most closely related to <I>Chelatococcus daeguensis</I> CCUG 54519<SUP>T</SUP>, <I>Chelatococcus sambhunathii</I> HT4<SUP>T</SUP>, and <I>Chelatococcus asaccharovorans</I> DSM 6462<SUP>T</SUP> with 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities to the type strains of these species of 98.8 %, 98.7 %, and 96.3 %, respectively. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain EBR-4-1<SUP>T</SUP> was 68.7 mol%. Phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data [Q-10 as the major ubiquinone; C<SUB>19 : 0cyclo</SUB>ω8<I>c</I>, C<SUB>18 : 1</SUB> 2-OH, and summed feature 8 (C<SUB>18 : 1</SUB>ω7<I>c</I> and/or C<SUB>18 : 1</SUB>ω6<I>c</I>) as the major fatty acids] supported the affiliation of strain EBR-4-1<SUP>T</SUP> to the genus <I>Chelatococcus</I>. On the basis of the polyphasic evidence, it is proposed that strain EBR-4-1<SUP>T</SUP> should be assigned to a new species, <I>Chelatococcus</I> <I>caeni</I> sp. nov. The type strain is EBR-4-1<SUP>T</SUP> ( = KCTC 32487<SUP>T</SUP> = JCM 30181<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>

      • Arenimonas daejeonensis sp. nov., isolated from compost

        <P>A Gram-negative, aerobic, motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain T7-07<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from compost in Daejeon, Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed that strain T7-07<SUP>T</SUP> had 99.0 % gene sequence similarity with <I>Arenimonas malthae</I> KACC 14618<SUP>T</SUP> and 94.7-95.9 % with other recognized species of the genus <I>Arenimonas</I>. Cells formed creamy white to yellowish colonies on R2A agar and contained Q-8 as the predominant ubiquinone, C15 : 0 iso, C16 : 0 iso, C17 : 1 iso ω9<I>c</I> and C11 : 0 iso 3-OH as the major fatty acids, and diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylmethylethanolamine and an unknown aminolipid as the major polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain T7-07<SUP>T</SUP> was 68.3 mol%. DNA-DNA reassociation experiments between T7-07<SUP>T</SUP> and <I>Arenimonas malthae</I> KACC 14618<SUP>T</SUP> resulted in a mean relatedness value of 22.2 %. Combined genotypic and phenotypic data supported the conclusion that the strain T7-07<SUP>T</SUP> represents a novel species, for which the name <I>Arenimonas daejeonensis</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is T7-07<SUP>T</SUP> ( = KCTC 12667<SUP>T</SUP> = DSM 18060<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>

      • Modulation of the Time Course of Cardiac Chronotropic Responses During Exposure to Affective Pictures

        One of the most important topics in attentional and emotional modulation of cardiac responses is time course of cardiac chronotropic response. The reason lies in dual innervation of heart, which leads to occurrence of several phases of cardiac response during exposure to affective stimuli, determined by the balance of sympathetic and parasympathetic influences. Cardiac chronotropic reactivity thus represents QUlte effective measure capable to trace the moment when attending and orienting processes (i.e., sensory intake of stimulus) prime relevant behavioral response (i.e., emotion with approach or avoidance tendencies). The aim of this study was to find the time course of heart rate (HR) responses typical for negative (disgust, surprise, fear, anger) and positive (happiness, pleasant erotic) affective pictures and to identify cardiac response dissociation for emotions with different action tendencies such as "approach" (surprise, anger, happiness) and "avoidance" (fear, sadness, disgust). Forty college students participated in this study where cardiac responses to slides from Laps intended to evoke basic emotions (surprise, fear, anger, sadness, disgust, happiness, pleasant-erotic). Inter-beat intervals of HR were analyzed on every 10 sec basis during 60 sec long exposure to affective visual stimuli. Obtained results demonstrated that differentiation was observed at the very first 10 s of exposure (anger-fear, surprise-sad, surprise-erotic, surprise-happiness pairs), reaching the peak of dissociation at 30 s (same pairs plus surprise-disgust and surprise-fear) and was still effective for some pairs (surprise-erotic, surprise-sad) even at 50 s and 60 s. Discussed are potential cardiac autonomic mechanisms underlying attention and emotion processes evoked by affective stimulation and theoretical considerations implicated to understand the role of differential cardiac reactivity m the behavioral context (e.g., approach-avoidance tendencies, orienting-defense responses).

      • Environmental innovation and its impact on economic and environmental performance: Evidence from Korean-owned firms in China

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This paper analyses the impact of environmental innovation on the economic and environmental performance of Korean-owned firms in China. We establish a theoretical model and propose eight hypotheses, which combine TPB (Theory of Planned Behavior) with theories of global environmental management and environmental innovation. We analyse the determinants of environmental innovation intention. We also analyse the effects of environmental innovation behavior on economic performance and environmental performance in different provinces and of different corporate ownership. We find that environmental innovation behavior has a greater effect on environmental performance than economic performance. Innovation in production processes, in particular, positively affects environmental performance for Korean-owned firms in Jiangsu. We also find that wholly Korean-owned firms (WKOEs) are more receptive to environmental innovation than Sino-Korean joint ventures. It is important to enhance environmental innovation within Korean-owned firms in China. Environmental innovation should concentrate on improving production processes in Jiangsu.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Environmental innovation behavior has a greater effect on environmental performance than economic performance. </LI> <LI> Innovation in production processes positively affects environmental performance for Korean-owned firms in Jiangsu. </LI> <LI> Environmental innovation should concentrate on improving production processes in Jiangsu. </LI> </UL> </P>

        A New Erythrinan Alkaloid from the Seed of Erythrina addisoniae

        Phytochemical study on the EtOAc extract of the seed of Erythrina addisoniae (Leguminosae) resulted in the isolation of a new erythrinan alkaloid, erysovine-N-oxide (1), along with eight known alkaloids, erysosalvinone (2), erysodine (3), 1H-indole-3-propanamide (4), glucoerysodine (5), erysotrine (6), erysovine (7), erythraline (8) and erysopine (9). Their chemical structures were identified on the basis of physicochemical and spectroscopic analyses.

      • Coating Lithium Titanate with Nitrogen-Doped Carbon by Simple Refluxing for High-Power Lithium-Ion Batteries

        <P>Nitrogen-doped carbon is coated on lithium titanate (Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB>, LTO) via a simple chemical refluxing process, using ethylenediamine (EDA) as the carbon and nitrogen source. The process incorporates a carbon coating doped with a relatively high amount of nitrogen to form a conducting network on the LTO matrix. The introduction of N dopants in the carbon matrix leads to a higher density of C vacancies, resulting in improved lithium-ion diffusion. The uniform coating of nitrogen-doped carbon on Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> (CN-LTO) enhances the electronic conductivity of a CN-LTO electrode and the corresponding electrochemical properties of the cell employing the electrode. The results of our study demonstrate that the CN-LTO anode exhibits higher rate capability and cycling performance over 100 cycles. From the electrochemical tests performed, the specific capacity of CN-LTO electrode at higher rates of 20 and 50 C are found to be 140.7 and 82.3 mAh g<SUP>–1</SUP>, respectively. In addition, the CN-Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> anode attained higher capacity retention of 100% at 1 C rate after 100 cycles and 92.9% at 10 C rate after 300 cycles.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2015/aamick.2015.7.issue-19/acsami.5b00776/production/images/medium/am-2015-00776r_0007.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/am5b00776'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

        The effect of environmental innovation behavior on economic and environmental performance of 182 Chinese firms

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This paper investigated the role of environmental innovation behavior in the economic and environmental performance of 182 Chinese firms. We established an extended theory of planned behavior (TPB) model and proposed seven hypotheses by combining TPB and environmental innovation theory. Through structure equation model, we found that attitude toward environment behavior, subjective environmental norm, perceived environment behavioral control positively impact environmental innovation intention. Environmental innovation behavior had a 0.232 larger effect on environmental performance than on economic performance. Production processes have a 0.028 greater positive influence on environmental performance than on economic performance. Enhancing environmental innovation promotes sustainable development. It is important to strengthen cleaner production processes to reduce environmental pollution. It is a significant obligation to conduct environment-related education or training for personnel within firms.</P>
