• OFFLINE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS AND ONLINE SHOPPING DEMAND: DOES THE KIND OF SOCIAL INTERACTIONS MATTER?

        Jeeyeon Kim,Mingyung Kim,Jeonghye Choi 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

We investigate the effect of offline social interactions on online shopping demand and the moderating role of online channel preference in this offline-online relationship. To be specific, we intend to obtain empirical evidence by answering the following questions. First, do offline social interactions affect online demand? Second, to what degree do the active versus passive kinds of offline social interactions have the differential influence on online shopping demand? Third, how does online channel preference affect the effect of offline social interaction on online shopping demand? Drawing on the related literature in the fields of social interactions and Internet retailing, we hypothesize that the active kind of offline social interactions exerts positive influence on online shopping demand whereas the passive kind of offline social interactions has negative effects. We further hypothesize that online channel preference weakens the influence that offline social interactions has for online shopping demand. Both the positive impact of active interactions and the negative impact of passive interactions diminish in determining online shopping demand as online channel preference gets greater. We obtained sales data between January 2008 and April 2010 from a leading Internet retailer that sells baby products in the U.S. The data includes the information of zip codelevel sales and shipping days. We merged this proprietary data with the following three commercial datasets purchased from ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute): (1) 2011 Civic Activities Market Potential, (2) 2011 Internet Market Potential, and (3) 2011 Baby Products Market Potential). Each of these datasets includes the information of offline social interactions, online shopping preferences and offline baby product sales, respectively. Finally, as we focus on the zip code-level interplay between offline social interactions and online demand, we control for regional demographics and market condition. As such, we obtained the 2010 Census data and 2009 ACS (American Community Survey) data to account for overall local environments (e.g. population density of children aged less than five years, percentage with college education). Our empirical analyses and hypotheses testing provide the following important findings. First, active offline social interactions have positive effects on online shopping demand. This indicates that active social interactions reflect information exchange among long ties, and this informational influence in turn reduces any risk and uncertainty associated with online shopping. Second, passive offline social interactions have negative effects on online shopping demand. This suggests that passive social interactions take place among local ties and generate normative influence to conform to the expectations of others about shopping behavior, making online shopping as a new channel less attractive there. Third, online channel preference is significantly positive on online shopping demand, confirming prior studies on the relationship between channel preference and demand (Changchit et al. 2014; Valentini et al. 2011). Fourth, the positive effect that active offline social interactions have for online shopping demand decreases as online channel preference increases. Regions with strong online channel preference are likely to have well-established channel propensity and the informational influence of social interactions in reducing uncertainty becomes weaker. As such, social interactions do not play a role in spreading information about the online marketplace in regions where online channel benefits are well understood (Burt 1992, 2005; Harrigan et al. 2012). Lastly, the negative influence of passive offline social interactions gets smaller as online channel preference gets greater. Online channel preference reflects the locally-determined attractiveness of the online marketplace, and this in turn weakens normative influence to conform to the expectations and shopping behaviors of local ties.

        Kim, Dongwoo,Kim, Eunju,Kim, Jeeyeon,Park, Kyeng ,Min,Baek, Kangkyun,Jung, Minseon,Ko, Young ,Ho,Sung, Wokyung,Kim, Hyung ,Seok,Suh, Ju ,Hyung,Park, Chan ,Gyung,Na, Oh&#x WILEY-VCH Verlag 2007 Angewandte Chemie Vol.46 No.19

        Graphic Abstract
Hollow out your pumpkin: The direct synthesis of approximately 100-nm-diameter polymer nanocapsules was carried out in the absence of preorganized structures or templates. The method appears to be applicable to any monomer that has a flat core and multiple polymerizable groups at the periphery (see picture). The surface properties of the polymer shell, which comprises cucurbituril, can be easily tailored through host–guest chemistry.

Antimicrobial Effect of Phytochemicals to Listeria monocytogenes Isolated from Slaughterhouses

        Kim, Hyeji,Oh, Hyemin,Lee, Heeyoung,Kim, Sejeong,Ha, Jimyeong,Lee, Jeeyeon,Choi, Yukyung,Lee, Yewon,Kim, Yujin,Yoon, Yohan,Lee, Soomin The Korean Society of Food Hygiene and Safety 2018 한국식품위생안전성학회지 Vol.33 No.4

The objective of this study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of natural antimicrobials on Listeria monocytogenes isolated from Korean slaughterhouses. A mixture of 15 strains of L. monocytogenes at low (3 Log CFU/mL) or high (7 Log CFU/mL) concentration was exposed to various extracts (grapefruit seed extract, citrus fruit extract, ginger extract, pear extract, Japanese apricot concentrate, balloon flower extract, jujube extract, and omija extract) at $0.001-4.0{\mu}g/mL$. Ginger extract, pear extract, Japanese apricot concentrate, balloon flower extract, jujube extract, or omija extract showed no antimicrobial effects on high-concentration of L. monocytogenes (7 Log CFU/mL). However, grapefruit seed extract and citrus fruit extract showed antibacterial effects against L. monocytogenes at 3 and 7 Log CFU/mL with MBCs of 0.001 and $0.002{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. These results indicate that grapefruit seed extract and citrus fruits extract can be used to control L. monocytogenes as natural antimicrobials.

Trans-Parasocial Relation Between Influencers and Viewers on Live Streaming Platforms: How Does it Affect Viewer Stickiness and Purchase Intention?

Kim, Jeeyeon,Liu, Jui-Ting,Chang, Sue Ryung Korean Marketing Association 2022 ASIA MARKETING JOURNAL Vol.24 No.2

Live streaming has become one of the most important communication tools for influencers to synchronously interact with viewers. It is critical to understand the effect of the reciprocal and synchronously interactive relations built between influencers and viewers, so-called trans-parasocial relations, in the context of live streaming. In this study, we investigate how trans-parasocial relations impact viewers' stickiness and purchase intention on live streaming platforms. Furthermore, we investigate fanship as a mediating factor in the relationship between trans-parasocial relations and viewers' behaviors. Overall, the results reveal significant direct and indirect effects of trans-parasocial relations on viewers' stickiness and purchase intention. Higher trans-parasocial relations further lead to stronger viewers' fanship toward influencers and increases their willingness to stay longer or make purchases on live streaming platforms. These findings further the understanding of influencer-viewer relations and viewers' behavior on live streaming platforms and provide valuable insights into influencer marketing and live streaming.

      • Cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC for intraabdominal synovial sarcoma with peritoneal carcinomatosis

        ( Jeeyeon Kim ),( Joo-hyuk Son ),( Tae-wook Kong ),( Jiheum Paek ),( Suk-joon Chang ),( Hee-sug Ryu ) 대한산부인과학회 2019 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.105 No.-

Synovial sarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm with variable epithelial differentiation that mainly occurs adjacent to joint capsules’ bursal and tendon sheath. In spite of the name, Synovial sarcoma can occur everywhere in the body but among these, intra-abdominal synovial sarcoma is rare and accounts 1.8% of its distribution while the mortality is relatively high. There is currently no effective treatment except surgery for this type of sarcoma. We present a case of primary intra-abdominal synovial sarcoma with peritoneal carcinomatosis successfully treated with cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). A 27 years old nulliparous woman was referred to our hospital for abdominal mass. She had a two-month history of progressive abdominal distension and dizziness. The abdominopelvic CT scan showed greater than 15cm-sized cystic-solid papillary mass lesion with large amount of hemorrhagic ascites. Her serum CA-125 was 222.6 U/mL. Under the impression of ovarian cancer, diagnostic laparoscopy was performed. Around 15cm-sized huge hemorrhagic mass was found. On the frozen section of the tumor, high-grade malignancy was suspected and the final result was synovial sarcoma. At surgical exploration, about 15cm-sized omental mass was seen. Multiple metastatic nodules involving the peritoneum and omentum were found. Primary cytoreductive surgery was performed with following procedures; total parietal peritonectomy, total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, greater omentectomy, appendectomy and HIPEC using cisplatin. There was no gross residual disease and the postoperative course was uncomplicated. She received 6 cycles of adjuvant systemic chemotherapy using AD (doxorubicin + dacarbazine) regimen and has been followed without disease recurrence until now. This is the first demonstration of intraperitoneal synovial sarcoma with peritoneal metastasis successfully treated with cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC.
