        Hyo-Young LEE 한국연구윤리학회 2022 연구윤리 Vol.3 No.1

Purpose: Research ethics has social implications beyond the issues of personal morality and research integrity. In recent years, research ethics has become a more controversial topic in society. In this study, the concept of the university research ethics curriculum is defined, the current status of the research ethics curriculum is analyzed, and the direction of the university research ethics curriculum development direction is discussed. Research design, data and methodology: The concept of university research ethics education and the current status of research ethics education were examined, and the development direction of the university research ethics curriculum was explored based on the framework <the educational goals - curriculum design and operation method - curriculum operation support system>. Results: field education to secure university research ethics is still insufficient. In other words, only 12 universities for undergraduate programs and 37 universities for graduate programs included research ethics in their regular curriculum. Conclusions: The occurrence of research misconduct is mainly caused by not recognizing the error or not taking it seriously. In particular, university research misconduct results from a lack of understanding of research ethics, poor research education, a performance-oriented academic climate, and the absence of an institutional system for establishing research ethics.

Ethical Concern in International Qualitative Health Research

        Sue Turale 질적연구학회 2007 질적연구 Vol.8 No.2

This paper is based on an invited keynote address to the Qualitative Health Research Conference held at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea, June 2023, 2007. Some important ethical issues in international qualitative research are highlighted to encourage researchers to contribute to the development of better international guidelines and strategies to ensure the protection and privacy of research participants, including those from developing countries. The author reflects on these issues, drawing on literature, her research experience, and learning experiences an editor of a international journal. The literature reveals a small but growing international body of knowledge about the ethical concerns of qualitative researchers. However, there is a serious lack of debate about how the health professions can ensure that international qualitative research is undertaken in an ethical framework that fits within socioculturallegal norms of engaging countries, and particularly the host country. Researchers from different countries have different mindsets, cultures, languages, as well as differing levels of research and educational training. They also have different levels and standards of training in the ethical aspects of research. This may cause both actual and potential moral problems, damage to both researchers and the researched, and undermine scholarly activity and integrity.

Vol.15 No.5

Purpose – To improve and strengthen existing publication and research ethics, KODISA has identified and presented various cases which have violated publication and research ethics and principles in recent years. The editorial office of KODISA has been providing and continues to provide advice and feedback on publication ethics to researchers during peer review and editorial decision making process. Providing advice and feedback on publication ethics will ensure researchers to have an opportunity to correct their mistakes or make appropriate decisions and avoid any violations in research ethics. The purpose of this paper is to identify different cases of ethical violation in research and inform and educate researchers to avoid any violations in publication and research ethics. Furthermore, this article will demonstrate how KODISA journals identify and penalize ethical violations and strengthens its publication ethics and practices. Research design, data and methodology – This paper examines different types of ethical violation in publication and research ethics. The paper identifies and analyzes all ethical violations in research and combines them into five general categories. Those five general types of ethical violations are thoroughly examined and discussed. Results – Ethical violations of research occur in various forms at regular intervals; in other words, unethical researchers tend to commit different types of ethical violations repeatedly at same time. The five categories of ethical violation in research are as follows: (1) Arbitrary changes or additions in author(s) happen frequently in thesis/dissertation related publications. (2) Self plagiarism, submitting same work or mixture of previous works with or without using proper citations, also occurs frequently, but the most common type of plagiarism is changing the statistical results and using them to present as the results of the empirical analysis; (3) Translation plagiarism, another ethical violation in publication, is difficult to detect but occurs frequently; (4) Fabrication of data or statistical analysis also occurs frequently. KODISA requires authors to submit the results of the empirical analysis of the paper (the output of the statistical program) to prevent this type of ethical violation; (5) Mashup or aggregator plagiarism, submitting a mix of several different works with or without proper citations without alterations, is very difficult to detect, and KODISA journals consider this type of plagiarism as the worst ethical violation. Conclusions – There are some individual cases of ethical violation in research and publication that could not be included in the five categories presented throughout the paper. KODISA and its editorial office should continue to develop, revise, and strengthen their publication ethics, to learn and share different ways to detect any ethical violations in research and publication, to train and educate its editorial members and researchers, and to analyze and share different cases of ethical violations with the scholarly community.

This study aims to explore the trends and characteristics of ethics-related research from 2013 to 2022 by examining major overseas journals in the fields of journalism and media communication. Among the journals listed in Web of Science or Scopus, search criteria were utilized to select the 20 most relevant journals, and after extracting 782 research papers from the selected journals, content analysis was conducted on them. The results show that in 2013, the journals published 33 research papers, while 143 were published in 2022. In addition, the quantitative growth of research was connected to the expansion of research topics. The study results demonstrate that ethics-related research has been actively conducted on increasingly diverse topics in 15 areas classified in the study. Moreover, the study highlights key research trends in classical journalism and media communication, such as journalism ethics, communication ethics, advertising and public relations ethics, internet ethics, ethics related to future technology, ethics related to popular culture and traditional media, and ethics education. Emerging trends in ethics research reflected in topics such as moral panic, social movements, ethical theory and philosophy, and research ethics were also identified. In addition to the opportunities and challenges of ethics research brought about by emerging technologies, this study emphasized the need to consider how to connect the lessons and implications accumulated through ethics-related research to media education. Regarding the research methods, most studies (72%) used qualitative methods, followed by quantitative methods (20%) and a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods (8%). In particular, the use of qualitative research methods showed an increasing trend over time over the 10-year study period, confirming the predominance of conducting ethics-related research in journalism and media communications. This study also presented its implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research.

Vol.139 No.1

In this study, research ethics education methods that can be implemented in moral subjects were sought to strengthen students' research ethics competency. In accordance with the 2022 revision of the curriculum and the introduction of the high school credit system, teachers' curriculum and subject openings, student-led classes, and course-oriented evaluation will be expanded. In this process, the ability of teachers and students to comply with research ethics and the ability of teachers to guide research ethics will be required. To strengthen this research ethics competency, it is necessary to implement research ethics education in the high school credit system in the moral subject. This is because, when considering the academic basis for the contents and methods of research ethics, research ethics education led by moral subjects can guarantee systematization. Therefore, for systematic research ethics education in moral subjects, the theoretical basis of research ethics education was discussed through Rest's morality 4-component model. In addition, various research ethics teaching methods were proposed to cultivate the 4 elements of research ethics.
