무대 디자인과 프로덕션의 실제 : 춤 공연 The War, 부산 시립 무용단 52회 정기공연

본 논문은 부산 시립무용단 정기공연 <The War>에 있어서 이미지 구성과 공간 구성을 통한 프로덕션 제작과정에 대한 연구이다. 본 논문에서 필자는 춤 공연이 가지는 일반적 특징을 고려해 이미지 생성과 환경 구축 과정을 찾고자 하였다. 그에 따른 방법으로 대본분석을 통한 무대 디자인 컨셉을 설정하고 구체적 장면을 제시하고, 이것은 작품의 총체적요소를 시각화하는 토대가 된다. 이를 위해서 극장공간을 분석하고 이를 이용해 관객의 심리적 접근을 적극 유도하고자 하였다. The War의 대본은 은유적, 몽환적 요소가 부각되는 대본이므로, 본 논문에서는 별도의 표와 스케치를 통해 등장인물, 무대세트, 이미지를 예시하여 그러한 추상적 이미지를 구체화 한다. 이 작품은 5막으로 구성된 춤극이며, 전쟁을 소재로 한 내러티브 위주의 사실 재연극이 아니라, 전쟁과 같은 사회 집단적 폭력에 의한 민중의 상처와 그것을 극복하고자 하는 민중의 강력한 생명에너지를 상징하는 춤극이다. 춤의 형식을 가진 공연예술은 감정의 동시성 확보가 중요하며 그 중심에는 음악적 요소가 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 무대에서 시공간의 자유로운 유영을 위해 음악은 필수적 요소이기 때문에 이번 작품의 디자인 컨셉 설정에도 많은 비중을 차지한다. The War에서는 객관적 대상을 개인적 지각에 따라 재창조하고자, 극의 무대는 아주 짧은 단절도 최소화하여 여러 장면들을 혼합하고, 무대의 세부적 분할을 통해 의도적인 무대의 공간성 확장과 극의 시간성 확장을 성취한다. 이러한 The War의 구조적 특징들과 더불어, 압축과 전치라는 무대 기법을 동원하여 무대 디자인을 실행함으로써, 주제와 이미지는 표현주의적 효과를 가져오게 된다. This thesis is a study on the working process of the production through the compositions of the images and space in The War, a periodical performance of the Busan Metropolitan Dance Company. I try to seek the image generation and the environment establishment, considering the general characteristics of the dance performance. The way for this is to set up the concept of the set design and to example the specific scenes by the analysis of the production's script, and this way becomes the basis for visualizing the total elements of this production. For this purpose, I analyze the spaces of the theater, and with this, intend to lead positively the spectators' psychic approaches to the production. The text or script emphasize the metaphorical and dreamlike aspects, and so in this thesis, I display the characters, set, and images by the extra tables and sketches, and then specify such abstract images. This production is the dance play made of 5 acts, and this is not the realistic play to represent a narrative about the war, but the symbolistic play to express the people's wounds through the social-collective violence like the war, and to symbolize their powerful life energy trying to overcome their wounds. It is important to get the simultaneousness of the emotions in the performance arts in the form of the dance, and in the center of those, the musical elements are also important. Because the music is the essential elements for the free swimming of the time-space on the stage, it is highly considered in establishing the concept of designing this production. In The War, in order to re-create the objective things according to the individual perception, I minimize the articulation of the stage and mix the various scenes, and achieve the intentional expansion of space and time through the particular divisions of the stage. By designing the set using the stagecraft of condensation and metonymy, along with these structural characteristics of The War, the subject and image get the expressionist effects.
