The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of poverty children's self-esteem and social competency through group experiences.
The research questions for this study were as follows:
First will the poverty children's self-esteem of experimental group be improved significantly in positive way than before the treatment?
Second will the poverty children's social competency of experimental group be improved significantly in positive way than before the treatment?
The subjects in this study were 16 elementary school students who practiced the group experiences on the poverty children in the after-school care at the Social Welfare Center located in Taegu.
They were randomly assigned to the experimental group(n=8) and control group(n=8). The experimental group was given group experiences program on session a week for 8 weeks. The control group was given no treatment during the period, Evaluation tools were scale of self-esteem and scale of social competency.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, In the analysis by effects of Self-esteem, it had significant changes between experimental group and control group.
Second, In the analysis by effects of Social competency, it had significant changes between experimental group and control group.
In conclusion, the poverty children's group experiences for the study had a positive effects on Self-esteem and social competency, so the poverty children's group experiences programs could be one of the practical intervention.
