In this thesis, the pretilt angle which is an important parameter to determime the electro-optical characteristics in LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays) is measured by the SHG(Second Harmonic Generation) and LB(Langmuirr Blogett) techniques. By the SHG technique the distribution characteristics of surface molecules can be found using the nonlinear characteristics obtained by the broken inversion symmetry on the material surface. It is necessary to deposit a monolayer on the substrate to find the distribution characteristics of LC molecules. It is possible by the aid of LB technique. As the rubbing strength goes up, the SH signals and pretilt angles are increased, but when rubbing strength is over certain value they are decreased.
