사건중심성과 외상 후 성장의 관계 분석 = An Analysis on the Relationship between Centrality of Event and Posttraumatic Growth

The study aimed to find out whether centrality of event was important to posttraumatic growth. In this study, 460 adults over 20 years old were participated in completing the following questionnaires: Traumatic Experience Schedule, Event-related Rumination Inventory, Centrality of Event Scale, Korea Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, Perceived Social Support Scale, Distress Disclosure Index, The Meaning in Life Questionnaire, Positive Reinterpretation Coping Scale. The results of this study were as follows. First, after examining differences of posttraumatic growth depending on the level of centrality of event, there was a significant difference between the group of high centrality of event and the group of low centrality of event. Second, correlations of variables related to posttraumatic growth were analyzed in both the group of high centrality of event and a whole group, reporting that posttraumatic growth was correlated stronger with social support, deliberate rumination, meaning in life, and positive reinterpretation in the group of high centrality of event than in the whole group. Finally, centrality of event was identified as a significant contributor to posttraumatic growth after controlling for the related variables including social support, self-disclosure, meaning in life, deliberate rumination and positive reinterpretation. These results suggests that centrality of event would have a significant influence on posttraumatic growth. Finally, implications and limitations of the study were discussed along with suggestions for further research.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 외상 사건과 관련된 기억을 중심으로 삶의 이야기를 구성하는 경향성인 사건중심성이 외상 후 성장에 영향을 미치는 중요한 변인인지를 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해 20세 이상의 성인 460명(남자 113명, 여자 347명)을 대상으로 외상 경험 질문지, 사건관련 반추 척도, 사건중심성 척도, 외상 후 성장 척도, 사회적지지 척도, 자기개방 척도, 삶의 의미 척도, 긍정적 재해석 척도를 사용하여 설문 결과를 분석하였다. 첫째, 사건중심성 수준에 따른 외상 후 성장의 차이를 분석한 결과 사건중심성 고집단과 저집단에 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 전체집단과 사건중심성 고집단의 외상 후 성장관련 변인들의 상관관계를 분석한 결과 사건중심성 고집단에서 외상 후 성장과 사회적 지지, 의도적 반추, 삶의 의미, 긍정적 재해석의 상관관계가 더 높게 나타났다. 마지막으로, 외상 후 성장관련 변인들을 차례로 투입하여 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 사건중심성이 사회문화적 변인(사회적지지, 자기개방), 인지적 변인(의도적 반추, 삶의 의미, 긍정적 재해석)을 통제하고도 외상 후 성장을 8% 추가로 설명하여 외상 후 성장에 가장 영향력 있는 변인임이 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 사건중심성이 외상 후 성장에 중요한 역할을 하는 변인임을 시사한다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 후속 연구에 대해 논의하였다.
