국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대에는 다양한 소재를 통해 표현의 범위가 확대되었다. 특히 여성의 가사 노동이었던 바느질은 현대에 이르러 수공예의 의미를 넘어 작가의 예술적 세계관을 표현하는 오브제로 자리매김하고 있다. 본 논문은 바느질을 소재로 한 작품 중에서 에피소드 기억(Episodic Memory)을 적용하여 작품을 분석하는데 의의가 있다. 에피소드 기억은 누구에게나 존재하지만, 예술가들에게 에피소드 기억은 그들의 삶을 통해 만들어지고 그것과 함께 자신만의 독창적인 조형 언어를 형성하는 중요한 소재이다. 기억 이미지는 시간의 흐름에 따라 변화할 수 있지만, 에피소드 기억은 특정 시간과 특별한 상황에 대한 경험이기 때문에 작가의 작품에서 자신만의 개인적 서사가 강하게 드러난다. 이에 본 논문에서는 작가의 삶에서 어머니와 함께 바느질을 경험한 두 작가를 선정하여 연구하였다. 바늘 여인으로 불리는 김수자와 고백 예술로 인정받고 있는 루이즈 부르주아의 작품에 나타나는 양상을 살펴본다. 김수자는 어머니와 이불보를 꿰매는 에피소드 기억을 통해 사고와 감수성, 행위가 모두 일치하는 일체감을 체험하게 된다. 루이즈 부르주아는 정신 분석학적 방법을 활용하여 자전적 서사의 주제에 초점을 맞추었고, 섬유와 바늘을 통해 해체와 결합의 조형적 표현으로 성장 과정에서 겪은 기억을 치유의 개념으로 발전시켰다. 위의 연구 결과, 작가의 에피소드 기억은 그들의 작품을 만드는 데 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 나아가 감상자가 작품을 이해하는데 중요한 분석 관점이 된다.

In modern times, the range of expression has been expanded through various materials. In particular, sewing, which used to be domestic work for women, has become an object that expresses the artist's artistic worldview beyond the meaning of handicraft in modern times. This paper is significant in analyzing works by applying episodic memory among works based on stitching. Episodic memory exists for everyone, but for artists, episodic memory is an important material that is created through their lives and forms their own original formative language along with it. Memory images can change over time, but since episodic memory is an experience of a specific time and a special situation, one's own personal narrative is strongly revealed in the work. Therefore, in this paper, two artists who have experienced sewing with their mother in the artist's life were selected and studied. We will look at aspects appearing in the works of Kim Sooja, known as the Lady of Needles, and Louise Bourgeois, who is recognized as an art of confession. Kim Sooja experiences a sense of unity where her thoughts, sensitivities, and actions all match through her memories of the episode where she sews a futon with her mother. Louise Bourgeois focused on the subject of autobiographical narratives using psychoanalytic methods, and developed memories experienced during growth into a concept of healing through plastic expressions of dissolution and union through fibers and needles. As a result of the above research, the artist's episodic memory not only has an influence on the creation of their work, but also becomes an important analytical point of view for viewers to understand the work.
