실존주의 집단상담 참여자들의 실존적 자기인식 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구 = A Phenomenological Study on Existential Self-Consciousness Experiences of Participants in Existential Group Counseling

The purpose of this present study was to investigate the intrinsic experience of self-consciousness, facilitating factors, and the outcomes in existential group counseling. The provided information was analyzed through the application of the phenomenological method based on the seven participants’ in-depth interviews of those who agreed to this study and participated in existential group counseling with active self-disclosure. The results indicated that participants expressed the intrinsic experiences of existential self-consciousness: awareness of the burdens of life’s existence, self confrontation of one’s non-authentic way of life, and intentional emotional withdraw. The facilitating factors were group acceptance, existential interrelating, recognition of shared experiences and feelings, and facing existential issues. The outcomes that the experiences of existential self-consciousness promoted were intrinsic self-acceptance, improving the relationship with others, and deepening in spirituality. The significance of the outcome from this study is from the achievement of phenomenological insight through vivid descriptions of interviews which is difficult to gain through quantitative research. As well, the study found out that group dynamics and the leader’s intervention helped the participants’ understanding of existential self-consciousness as discovered through in-depth interviews. This study provided effective data that may be utilized in future research and processed to increase the effectiveness of existential self-consciousness in group counseling.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 실존주의 집단상담 참여자들의 실존적 자기인식 경험의 본질과 촉진요인 그리고 결과를 탐색하는 것이다. 실존주의 집단상담에 참여하여 적극적으로 자기를 개방하고 연구에 동의한 7명의 연구 참여자와 심층면담을 통하여 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 드러난 실존주의 집단상담 참여자들의 실존적 자기인식의 본질은 <삶의 버거운 현존의 인식>, <비 본래적 자기방식의 대면> 그리고 <소외시켰던 감정의 경험>으로 나타났다. 실존적 자기인식 촉진요인으로는 <집단의 수용적 분위기>, <실존적 관계맺음>, <동질감을 통한 실존적 유대감 형성>, 그리고 <실존적 문제의 직면>이 도출되었다. 실존적 자기인식 경험의 결과로는 <고유한 자기의 수용>, <타인과의 관계 향상> 그리고 <영적세계의 심화>가 이루어진 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 실존주의 집단상담에서의 자기인식 경험의 본질과 결과에 대하여 참여자들의 생생한 언어를 통하여 양적연구에서 밝히기 어려운 현상학적 통찰을 제시하였다. 또한 집단 참여자들의 실존적 자기인식을 촉진하게 된 집단역동은 무엇이며, 집단리더의 개입이 무엇이었는지를 심층적으로 드러냄으로써 실존적 자기인식 증진을 위한 집단상담의 연구와 진행에 활용할 수 있는 근거 자료를 제공하는데 의의가 있다.
