초등학생의 읽기 태도, 읽기 성취, 읽기 시간 간의 상관 연구 = A correlational study between reading attitude, reading achievement, and reading time of elementary students

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study investigated a correlational relationship between reading attitude,reading achievement, and reading time of 1st to 6th elementary students. 1488students in Daegu participated in the study. Their reading attitude and reading time and reading achievement were measured by <Reading Attitude Inventory>and <Reading Ability Test>, respectively.
Based on the results, there was very weak correlational relationship between reading attitude and reading achievement. When students were 4th graders,the correlational coefficient was biggest. Second, there was a moderate correlational relationship between reading attitude and out-of-school reading time. The correlational coefficients for higher graders were bigger than lower graders’ ones. Finally, there was very weak correlational relationship between reading attitude and out-of-school reading time.
Possible explanations may include our educational system to encourage extreme competition, indirect relationship between reading attitude and reading achievement, and a gap between reading for leisure and reading for learning

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 초등학교 1~6학년 학생들을 대상으로 읽기 태도, 학교 밖에서의 읽기 시간, 읽기 성취 간의 상관관계를 규명하는 데 있다. 이를 위해, 대구광역시에 소재하고 있는 초등학교 학생들 1488명이 참여하였다. 학생들의 읽기 태도와 학교 밖에서의 읽기 시간은 <읽기 태도 검사>를 사용하여 측정하였으며, 읽기 성취는 <독서 능력 검사>를 사용하였다.
연구 결과에 따르면, 우선 초등학생의 읽기 태도는 읽기 성취와 상관관계가거의 없었다. 하지만 학년이 올라갈수록 상관계수가 커지는 양상이 나타났으며,초등학교 4학년 때 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 읽기 태도와 학교 밖에서의읽기 시간 간에는 보통 정도의 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 저학년보다는 고학년에서 강한 관계를 나타냈다. 특히, 이러한 관계는 초등학교 5학년 학생들에서가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 학교 밖에서의 읽기 시간과 읽기 성취 간에는 상관이 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다.
다양한 이유가 있겠지만, 지나친 경쟁을 요구하는 우리의 교육 현실, 읽기 태도와 읽기 성취 간의 간접적 관련성, 학교 밖에서의 여가 읽기와 시험을 위한 학습읽기 간의 괴리 등에서 그 원인을 찾을 수 있다.
