Artists of today are more interested in expressing their own emotional experience. They consciously connect their internal reality to the world, revealing their expression, that is, their unconsciousness expressing things following the demand of the maximized unconsciousness.
This researcher's trauma intervenes in my work that it forms the shape of a girl creating a fantasy of love. Without even knowing since when, I unconsciously have been creating a fantasy with the shape of the girl coming uppermost to my mind. The girl's feeling of love, and my present feeling were expressed. It seems from my unconsciousness with the intention to express a womanly figure together with the deep scar out that has been creating the girl and her figure much different than the figure active usually aiming to show another of me.
I analyzed the effect by a curing factor of sewing as a major technique of arts. I have treated the sewing in this study as a tool to cure mental trauma and agony of our lives besides its original use for our daily lives. I communicated with myself desirous of hiding my scar and the memories in the past forgotten by the sewing, an act to eliminate. In that manner, my repressed self was erupted, and felt catharsis from isolated feeling.
The theme of this thesis is about a girl and fantasy of love sprung up in my late 20s based on my experience in trauma in interpersonal relationship.
The process of my study done retracing my memories in the past and the self confession about life mad me overcome the trauma little by little regaining femininity. The cloth and sewing used in my work as an expression method was effective in self cure. The soft and warm cloth and cotton wrapped the past scar, and the sewing, a work unique to women's emotion made me find femininity I had been forgotten and cure my wound by myself.
My autobiographical expression was continued being purified of its own accord, and my trauma in the past worked as a driving force to make my work last.
The works of Louise Bourgeois and Tracey Emin and their working process are good models showing how good sewing technique are for curing wound.
Unfolding such wound through work on arts, I could experience catharsis and look at myself. This could be said the power of arts over self cure.
Furthermore, I hope my works are available in curing the internal wound of the people viewing my works.
