Abstract
This paper is a study on the analysis of a social contribution poster. The purpose of it is to understand the value of designs in social activities, recognize the importance of the social contribution designs, and figure out figurative characteristics of the poster’s designs. A subject of this analysis is Milton Glaser who is a very famous designer and does a lot of social activities through his work, so this social contribution poster design was analyzed by figurative elements.
A poster should have lots of underlying significance in a piece of paper and catch people’s eye at the moment. Therefore, there should be several strong expressive features in the poster when using it for social activities. The figurative elements of the poster are layout, image, typography, and color. Layout is a necessary means of recognizing a poster. The attractiveness of image and typography varies depending on methods to align them. Image can deliver what typography can’t represent. Typography is a means of expressing what a poster wants to deliver exactly. A style of the poster varies depending on what kind of typography is used. Color is one of the biggest factors to catch people’s eyes because people usually recognize feelings differently according to color.
The result of this analysis on these four elements is as in the following. Layout prefers central alignment and symmetry composition that provides emotional stability and a sense of order. Image usually utilizes illustration, and typography most frequently uses strong, masculine, and clear sans serif type. Lastly, red color is very popular because it has a high level of attractiveness.
The paper figured out expressive characters through the analysis on a social contribution poster. Thus, this would suggest how to deliver messages effectively through the figurative expressive features when designing the poster for the future.
